There are three children in my family. My mother often makes us do chores. However, my grandmother doesn’t agree with her. She thinks my mother is too strict. In her opinion, parents shouldn’t be too strict with children. It is parents’ job to do chores.
My mother thinks our family is made up of five family members. No one in the family is more important than others, so each member should help with chores. But my mother doesn’t ask us to do the same chores because our ages are different.
At the end of the day, after we finish playing with our toys, my mother asks us to put the toys away. If we don’t, we will have to say goodbye to our toys. She expects us to set the table at night and help fold our own clothes. She doesn’t think she is asking too much.
My mother knows we are tired after a long day’s study at school, but she thinks that’s just life. She doesn’t pay us for doing some chores. She thinks we live in the house, so we should help out with some things in the house. No one is going to pay us for cleaning up our rooms later in life and she is not about to start doing it now.

Most of us spend all day at school or work. After a long and busy day, all we want to do is to return to a comfortable home. Smart technology can turn any home into a nicer place to live in.
Smart homes have been around for some time. A company called Picosystem Electronics invented a type of technology called X10 in 1975. As the earliest smart home technology, it allows household devices (家用设备), such as lights and alarms, to communicate with each other by using radio waves.
Of course, 5G network connectivity (网络连接) has made smart homes much more complicated (复杂的) than X10. Perhaps the most popular smart home technology is the voice-activated assistant (语音助手). Users are allowed to communicate with almost any device in their homes simply by saying a few words. This is especially convenient for children and people with disabilities, as the devices can help them finish tasks that would normally be too difficult.
Common household devices can become “smart” as well. For example, smart fridges can create dinner recipes with the vegetables that are being kept inside.
Smart homes are convenient and they can make people live better. They are also good for the environment. By regularly checking your energy use, turning off lights and other devices that you’re not using, smart homes can lower much electricity you use. Using less energy means that we use fewer natural resources, which is good for the environment. But there are still many people who don’t like them. They think smart homes cost much money and sometimes they are not safe.
30.When did the company invent X10
31.How does X10 allow household devices to communicate with each other
32.What is the most popular smart home technology
33.What can a smart fridge do according to the text
34.Do you like smart homes Why or why not

Many of us read news every day. It is probably because we’d like to know what’s happening in the world. Today we can get news from TV or the Internet, but how did ancient people get news
At the very beginning, information spread by word of mouth. People living in tribes (部落) got news from neighbors or travelers. Ancient Romans changed the way people knew about their communities. They posted a list of daily happenings at public squares in the cities. Ancient Chinese people did it in another way. The government had news sheets sent to officials in the whole country so people could know what was going on in the capital.
The fifteenth century saw big progress in printing technology in the West. The progress brought a sudden rise of news business. Printers sold whatever people loved to read. In the sixteenth century, the first real newspapers appeared. People started to form the habit of reading newspapers. They liked to share their opinions in newspapers. The invention of telegraph (电报) machines led to another big step in history. News stories were sent to the papers in minutes instead of weeks.

One is nature. It was considered to be the best teacher in the old days because man learned a lot from nature like lighting the fire and growing rice. It also provides man with many necessary things for life, such as water, food and so on.
Hu, 31, is a pioneer in nature education. He set up an organization five years ago. It offers nature-based programs to children under 12 years old, including many outdoor activities, such as planting trees and watching birds.
“Nature is friendly to us if we protect her. And don’t forget that we are all part of nature,” Hu said. The purpose (目的) of nature education is to teach people how to understand, respect and get on well with nature.
Here comes the other important teacher—books. People learned from nature and wrote down the experiences in the form of books, because man could record their experiences and thoughts.
Books play an important role in our lives. Su Mingjuan, a girl from a poor family in a small village, has finished college and has become a good bank clerk. Nowadays, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been widely used in different parts of our life. In the field of education, AI learning software can provide better exercises according to students’ learning situations. It can also help students practice oral foreign languages through speech conversations. In the transportation field, people use AI technology to know more about road conditions in real-time and plan the best routes. In the medical field, AI can quickly scan a large amount of information to help doctors.
However, with the development of AI, people have many different thoughts. Some think it greatly improves the efficiency of life and work, while others worry that over-reliance (过度依赖) on AI will bring risks.
AI is a good helper in my work. It can quickly scan patients’ medical data and suggest possible diseases. This saves a lot of time. But AI can’t replace human doctors completely, as patients (病人) need human care and comfort. Only we doctors can understand their feelings and build trust with them. —Dr. Liu, 38, People’s Hospital, Taiyuan
I think AI is very useful. When I learn math, an AI app can explain difficult problems clearly step by step. It also helps me review lessons by making study plans. But sometimes, it gives me too many study suggestions, and I don’t know which ones to follow. —Li Wei, 14, Xinhua Middle School, Linfen I’m a little worried about AI. Once, I used an AI writing tool to complete my English writing. But when the teacher asked me some questions about it, I couldn’t answer well because I didn’t think deeply myself. I’m afraid we’ll become lazy if we depend on AI too much. —Wang Mei, 15, Sunshine School, Yuncheng
70.What does AI learning software do in education
71.Why doesn’t AI take the place of human doctors according to Dr. Liu
72.What’s Li Wei’s trouble when he uses AI to study
73.How does Wang Mei show her idea about AI
74.Is it right for a student to depend on AI too much What advice can you give him
