Dr. Zed's Science Lab—— The Amazing Coin Wonder!
You' ll need: a coin, a small piece of cardstock(卡片纸), and a glass.
What to do: Step 1. Place the glass on the table. Step 2. Put the cardstock over the top of the glass. Step 3. Place a coin in the middle of the cardstock, directly over the centre of the glass. Step 4. With your fingers, flick(轻弹) the cardstock off the glass.
What happens Dr. Zed explains: The coin stays in place because of inertia(惯性). Inertia means an object will remain where it is unless acted upon by an outside force. When you flicked the cardstock off the glass, the movement was so quick that the coin stayed where it was for a short second! Then gravity(重力) took over, and the coin fell into the glass.

In recent years, a meaningful trend(趋势) has become popular when people are naming newborn babies across China. One example is“Fusu”, a name that comes from The Book of Songs(《诗经》). Another heartwarming example is“Yunyu”, a name chosen by a young mother for her daughter, which means“a hidden gem(宝石)”. Both names show parents’ love and carry their hope that the child will shine with true beauty and talent in the future.
A study shows that 38.7% of newborn babies born after 2024 have special names. These special names usually come from classical poetry or stories. They are more than just interesting—— they show a growing trend of young people loving Chinese culture. The main reason is that most new parents today were born in the 1990s. They grew up when China was developing quickly. Now, they feel more confident about Chinese culture. So, it's natural for them to give their children names with cultural meanings.
Interestingly, Chinese names have always been connected to the times. They show people's wishes in different eras. In the 1950s, names like“Jianguo”(building the nation) were popular, showing people’ s hope for national success. Later, names with“Qiang”(strong) became common, showing a wish for na-tional strength and personal excellence. From“Jianguo” to names from classical poetry, the development of Chinese names not only records the changes of the times but also shows the inheritance(传承) and de-velopment of Chinese culture.
This trend is more than a fashion. It's an expression of cultural confidence and inheritance. By giving their children such names, young parents are passing down their love for traditional culture to their kids and keeping Chinese culture alive through the ages.
23. What message do both names“Fusu” and“Yunyu” show
A. They show the popularity of ancient Chinese books.
B. They show parents' love and hopes for their children.
C. They show a trend of choosing names that sound beautiful.
24. Where do these special names usually come from
A. Classical movies. B. Traditional folk songs. C. Classical poetry or stories.
25. How does the writer support his idea in Paragraph 3
A. By giving examples. B. By telling stories. C. By listing numbers.
26. What is the text mainly about
A. The influence of technology on naming trends.
B. The rise of culturally meaningful names in China.
C. The differences between traditional names and modern names.

I love sleeping in on Saturdays. But sometimes, when I wake up and find it's almost noon, I start to worry. I think I am“wasting the day”, ruining(糟蹋) it before it even begins. This is the“domino mindset(多米诺思维)”. This mindset happens when one small bed thing makes you feel that everything else will also go wrong. Maybe you make your new shirt dirty by accident while you are out with your friends. From that moment on, nothing seems right—— your dessert seems disappointing, and everything you say seems wrong. It feels like dominoes falling one by one.
Dr. Julie Smith explains that it is a form of overgeneralization(过分概括).“This means taking one single event and using it to predict the future, drawing conclusions(结论) that are not actually reasona-ble.”
Our brains naturally look for ways to protect us. As one psychologist explains,“Your brain is like a helpful friend who remembers past experiences so that it can protect you in the future.” But sometimes, this helpful friend gets it wrong. The domino mindset makes us see bad situations that aren't really there. For example, someone may fail in one interview and believe he or she will never get a job. This over sensitive(敏感的) thinking makes us tired and worried.
The first step to change is noticing these thoughts. Talking about them aloud can create space and give us time to choose a response(回应). When you notice the fear starting, stop for a moment. Then question the thought: Is this really true If you can't change the thought right away, try writing it down on paper. Seeing it outside your mind can make it seem smaller and less scary.
The domino mindset may be deeply rooted, so be patient. With practice, you can stop the domino effect before it spreads.
27. What is the“domino mindset”
A. A hobby of collecting dominoes.
B. A habit of sleeping late on weekends.
C. A thought that one small bad thing can lead to more wrong things.
28. What does the underlined word“predict” in Paragraph 2 mean
A.预测 B.探究 C.核对
29. Why does the psychologist compare the brain to“a helpful friend”
A. Because it always gives good advice.
B. Because it helps us remember happy moments.
C. Because it tries to protect us based on past experiences.
30. What's the main purpose of this text
A. To warn readers against the danger of oversleeping.
B. To show readers the importance of changing our minds.
C. To tell readers how to stop the domino mindset and stay positive.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。每个选项仅使用一次。
A saying has recently become popular on Chinese social media:“If you have no talent, then repeat until you do.” It shows a powerful idea. 31
There is certainly truth in this approach(方法). For example, a girl wants to learn the piano. At first, she plays slowly and makes many mistakes. But she prac-tises it every day. 32 Another example is a boy who wants to run faster. He runs for 20 minutes each morning. At first, he gets tired quickly. But after three months, he runs much faster than before. With each repetition, the action becomes smoother and the understanding becomes deeper.
33 It says that practising any skill for around 10,000 hours can make you an expert. Many suc-cessful people have depended on repetition. For example, great singers, athletes and writers started as be-ginners. They became successful because they never gave up.
However, just repeating is not enough. Experts argue that to truly master a skill, practice needs to be deliberate(蓄意的). For example, if the girl always plays the piano without thinking, she may develop bad habits. 34 To play the piano well, she needs to practise in a focused and thoughtful way, and she also needs to learn from feedback(反馈).
Also, repetition can't take the place of talent, either. Some people may learn things faster because they' re talented. But we should remember the value of repetition. 35 More importantly, when we practise with reflection(反思), purpose and love, we can turn common effort into great achievement. So,keep repeating and keep improving!
A. This idea matches the“10,000-hour rule”. B. Improvement requires effort and patience. C. If she has no interest, repeated practice can be boring. D. After two months, she can play a song without stopping. E. Success comes not from natural ability, but from hard work and repetition.

Imagine sleeping under a huge dinosaur skeleton(恐龙骨架) or exploring historical relics(文物)with a flashlight at night. It's a new fashion in Chinese museums which is known as“camping in the museum”. As summer crowds flood into museums, these overnight activities are becoming 36 .
At the Chengdu Natural History Museum, 30 children took on the role of“dinosaur explorers” for a night. They dug for dinosaur bones(骨头), 37 bone-like models and used simple maps to find hid-den dinosaur coins. After that, they 38 tents beside dinosaur skeletons and wrote about their experi-ences of the science tasks. In Luoyang, Henan, some museums offer history-themed overnight stays. Visi-tors can dress up as historical figures, eat dinner in the museum halls and 39 outdoors near relics.
Unlike quick daytime trips, overnight stays have many 40 . One of them is the immersive(沉浸式虚拟现实的) experience they provide. Daytime crowds make it hard to focus, but at night, with fewer people, you can look closely and learn more 41 . Sleeping near dinosaur bones or relics not only makes learning fun but also makes it easy to remember. A parent from Beijing said her daughter liked lis-tening to science stories beside dinosaur models—— this is 42 during crowded daytime tours.
However, turning museums into night-time places faces challenges. Safety is a top 43 for these overnight events. To address this, museums have started adding more workers, 44 night managers, and making plans for emergencies(紧急情况). And they require that kids under 10 should stay with their parents.
These programs make museums less 45 during summer days while making learning fun. Who knows Maybe your next school trip will let you sleep with dinosaurs!

We often see bright lights in cities at night. These lights help people but also cause light pollution that harms plants. Light 46 the natural balance that plants need.Plants follow a(n) 47 “day-and-night” rule. During the day, they produce food through photosynthesis(光合作用). At night, they slow down and rest to 48 ener-gy. However, bright night lights prevent cities from being dark at night. This makes plants never stop 49 .
One big problem is flowering. Many plants only bloom(开花) 50 nights are long and dark. Too much night light makes 51 bloom late, bloom poorly or not bloom at all. They cannot produce seeds(种子), which is bad for bees and butterflies that feed on flowers.
If plants are not fully rested, they will consume(消耗) too much energy. Their growth will become 52 and harder. Young plants are more at risk. Bright lights can stop their roots from growing strong,so they can be blown down 53 by the wind.
Trees also suffer. Some need dark nights to prepare 54 winter. Lights make them keep growing new leaves, which will freeze and die in cold weather.
Luckily, there are many things we can do to help. We can plant more 55 to block light and tell others about light pollution. Let's take action to protect plants.

阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
I was a kind and smart boy, but I had a terrible habit of wasting time. I was al-ways late for school, ignoring(忽略) my mother's repeated reminders that time man-agement was the key to success. Instead of focusing on my studies, I preferred to spend hours flying kites, chatting with close friends or daydreaming.
One early morning, I noticed my friend Danish was filled with great joy. He told me that he had topped his class and received a special prize. Surprised and interested, I asked about his secret. Danish explained his balanced schedule(日程) of hard work and relaxing activities, but I thought it was challenging.
That night, a clear nightmare(噩梦) shocked me. I saw some of my friends grow into successful doctors and engineers, while I remained a failure—I had failed all my exams and watched my childhood dream of becoming a doctor die. Overwhelmed(充溢) by regret for wasting my valuable time, I cried sad-ly, realizing I could not turn back the clock.
Suddenly, an alarm woke me up. Luckily, it was just a dream. I decided to make a change and take action. I asked Danish for guidance and strictly followed his advice. Gradually, I became organized, get-ting more relaxing and enjoyable free time and even helping my classmates with their studies.
When the final grades came out, I got second place, and my heart was full of pride and a sense of achievement. I finally understood that time management is far more than a strict schedule; it is about treasuring and using every minute wisely.

Smart Time, Better Me
Dear teachers and classmates,
As the saying goes, “Time is life.” Managing time wisely helps us become better versions of ourselves.
First, we should set clear daily goals so that we can know what to do next. Second, we must stay away from phones when studying, as they not only waste time but also prevent us from focusing on our studies. What’s more, making a study plan can also help us manage time properly.
Good time management brings me many benefits. It helps me finish my tasks on time every day and then relax. It also gives me enough time to develop my hobby of reading. Most importantly, I feel more confident because I can control what I do and when I do it.
Let’s manage our time wisely and become better and better!
Thank you!
