AI is becoming more and more popular in our life. Not long ago, a restaurant opened in Shanghai.
This restaurant is different from the ones we usually see. It’s in the Hongqiao area and covers about 130 square meters. It uses smart machines and computers to do things like cooking food and serving meals. It’s like having a robot (机器人) chef and waiter all in one place. It can serve about 300 people every day. Most of them are old people living nearby or office workers in the area.
At the restaurant, people need to order food on a screen. If you can’t decide what to eat, the cooking system can give advice. The restaurant’s robots can make different kinds of Chinese dishes, like gongbao chicken and Mapo tofu. They also adjust (调整) cooking temperatures and pack food for eating in or taking away.
At the self-service area, put your dishes on a smart cash desk and it will show the price of the meal. You can pay with bank cards or QR codes (二维码). The food is cheap: meat dishes are 8 yuan each while vegetable dishes cost only 3.5 yuan.
“The meals cooked by robots taste as good as those cooked by humans. It is cheap and convenient (方便的) for us to eat here,” said an old man. Would you like to have a meal in such a smart restaurant
1.Where is the AI restaurant
2.How much is a meat dish in this restaurant
3.Do you want to have a meal in such a smart restaurant Why

You must think a computer is the best thing in the world, right You must think it works at a super speed and can do everything. Well, it’s not. In fact, the human brain is much more powerful than any super computer. Imagine a glass is just about to fall off the table. Your brain controls everything that you need to do to save that glass from falling. First, your eyes check out what’s going on, and then tell your brain, and your brain decides how quickly you need to react, and then your muscles go into action. This is just from your brain. No computers could ever come close to that.
The brain weighs just about 3 pounds, but it controls everything you do from thinking, learning, feeling, even to breathing and your heart beating. Even though the brain is just about 2% of your body weight, it uses around 20% of the energy in your body. That is a lot for such a small organ (器官). There are billions of tiny cells in your brain. There are so many that it would take you many years to count them all.
Your brain stops growing when you’re about 18, but it actually keeps on developing and learning new things. So your parents are really super smart. You won’t be able to fool them. Believe it or not, your brain never stops working. Even during sleep, the brain works—for long-term memory establishment. It is realized that the brain is the second organ in the body after the heart that never stops during human lives. So everyone should be proud of such a gift of nature.
4.What can first check out what’s going on when the glass is about to fall off the table
5.How much does the brain weigh
6.What does the underlined word “That” refer to in Paragraph 2
7.When will your brain stop growing
8.What can you learn from the last paragraph (请自拟一句话作答)

The wind carried the good smell of fallen leaves and apples through the garden. I followed Grandpa as we walked along the rows of apple trees, each branch heavy with fruit. The sun hung low in the sky, making long golden shadows across the ground. Birds sang cheerfully and the air was fresh.
Grandpa stopped by an old tree with large branches and touched its rough trunk. “Let’s pick the apples here,” he said, handing me a basket.
I climbed on tiptoes to reach the juiciest apples and the basket began to be filled up quickly. I was proud of what I did. My hands smelled sweet from the apples, and I could already imagine the pies Grandma would make. Just then, I noticed a robin (知更鸟) picking a shiny red apple and flying towards a small nest (巢) hidden between the leaves. I tiptoed closer and looked inside the nest. There were tiny birds chirping softly, their beaks wide open, waiting for food. The robin placed the apple near them and gently fed the little ones. And I noticed how carefully it broke the apple into tiny pieces.
I froze. The apple I had just picked dropped from my fingers and landed with a soft sound on the ground. I looked at my basket, full of apples, and then at the robin’s nest. A wave of sorry washed over me. These apples weren’t just ours—they were part of the life here in the garden. Without thinking, I picked a few apples from my basket and put them carefully by the nest, “For your little ones.”
When I returned to Grandpa, he noticed my basket wasn’t as full as before. “What happened ” he asked.
I smiled shyly, “I shared some apples with the robin.”
Grandpa nodded, “Good work.”
I felt warm inside. The apples in my basket seemed sweeter than ever.

10.How did I feel when the basket was filled up with apples
11.Why did the robin pick the apple and fly towards the nest
12.Where did I put some apples in my basket

I began to shout for help to the people on the island. They did not understand me, but they understood that I was in difficulty. At first, they made signs for me to move towards them. Then, they moved closer and sent a chair down to me on a chain and pulled me up.
The people on the island were friendly and accepted me but they were strange. They wore the strangest clothes. They all had their own personal man servant who carried a large balloon on the end of a stick. The servant’s job was to tap (轻拍) his master on his mouth or ear when he needed to speak or listen to something. These masters usually thought about the strangest subjects for hours and hours a day. As a result, they had no sense of practical things in life, such as speaking or listening.
I later learnt that this island was called Laputa. Some people took me to speak to the king. When we arrived at his palace, the king was lost in thought and didn’t notice me. I waited for more than an hour until, finally, one of his servants tapped him on the mouth and he spoke.
I didn’t understand their language and could not answer the king. One of the servants tried to tap me on the mouth with his balloon. I protested (抗议) very quickly.
“I know exactly when to speak and listen,” I told them. They understood the sense of what I said. But they thought I was a complete idiot because I did not pass my time in thought. Then after dinner, a servant came to teach me their language and tell me about life on Laputa.

In Kibaha, near the capital Dares Salaam, architects (建筑师) built a new village called Hope Village with “earth printing”. The project was finished in February, 2025.
Helped by charity One Heart, Hope Village is designed by Hassell and Clarke Hopkins Clarke (CHC) to help children from across the country who have unsafe home environments.
The village has offered schooling for up to 480 children, as well as childcare and skills training for girls between 3~18 years old. In the center of Hope Village is its landmark building—a community center. It is a 3D-printed design, and it is used as a school hall and dining hall during the week and open to the public for events at weekends.
The walls are 3D printed with earth so they can be 100% recycled. “We wanted to make sure that we’re able to build walls that could circulate (循环) air in the building, but also bring in light at the same time, and turning to 3D printing allowed for an open, ‘porous’ (多孔的) wall design.” said Mark, the lead designer from CHC.

Zhao Yue makes the last cut. She hands me the bamboo picture, smiling, “This is called zhubaoping’an. It means ‘I wish you a safe and healthy life’.” The bamboo seems to be alive, and the leaves look like they are dancing. I feel the warmth and life of this traditional folk art.

Long ago, on a quiet Greek farm, there lived an old man and his young son. The man was called Agathon, which in Greek means “good and kind.” Agathon was a miller (磨坊主), and he worked hard at his mill every day.
The boy was called Tebelis.
Most boys liked to be active playing with their friends and even helping at home. Tebelis liked none of these things. Instead, he liked to sleep. He slept in the morning, in the afternoon, and in the evening. People said Tebelis was the laziest boy in all of Greece. In fact, his very name meant “lazy.”
Summer turned to fall, and people began bringing their grain to Agathon’s mill. Agathon placed the grain on a large, flat stone. He placed another stone, called a millstone, on top. He then tied a cow to the millstone. As the cow turned the millstone, the grain turned into soft flour (面粉).
Some said that Agathon’s flour was the finest in the land.
One morning, Agathon took a trip to visit a friend. He left Tebelis in charge of the mill.
“Take care, my son,” Agathon said before he left. “Watch the cow carefully. She can be lazy, just like you. Make sure she keeps working.”
Tebelis watched the cow. At first, she turned the millstone quickly. Then she started moving slower, slower, slower.
Finally, she stopped moving. The cow seemed tired and sick. “Well,” Tebelis smiled, “I suppose that’s enough work for one day.” He lay down on the ground and closed his eyes.
Suddenly, Alexander, the King of Greece and his men came, they asked Tebelis to mill some grain. Unluckily, Tebelis’s cow was sick.
But Alexander smiled. “I’m sure you will think of something. This afternoon, you will have grain, and you will have one week to mill it.”
He bowed deeply as the king and his men hurried away.
Then he sat on the ground, shaking, tears filling his eyes.
All day, Tebelis replayed the scene over and over in his mind.
“There must be an answer,” he said to himself, but he knew the situation was hopeless.
Finally, Tebelis had an idea and he built a watermill.
The watermill was a great success. In just a few days, they managed to mill each and every basket of Alexander’s grain.

31.How did Tebelis feel when the king ordered him to mill all the grain in a week Why

Making waves
We can see waves (波浪) on lakes or seas. Waves are energy, not water. Usually, the wind provides the energy. Sometimes, an earthquake under the sea makes huge energy suddenly. This travels across the sea very quickly, then slows and grows in height when it reaches land.
The parts of a wave
We call the top of the wave the crest and the bottom the trough. The distance (距离) between the crest and the trough is the wave 3 . The distance between one crest and the next is the wave length.
How far waves go
Waves stop when the wind stops giving them energy. If the wind continues giving them energy, they can travel to the other side of the world. On rocks, waves break, and make a lot of water. On a beach, the sand or stones slow the bottom part of the wave. The crest rises to the highest point, then moves over the top. It makes the “classic” wave shape, and breaks on the shore.

During the break times between classes, Xiao Jingsheng from Beijing Shangdi Experimental School often rushed to the toilet, then back to class with no time for anything else. But now that has changed. “I can have more time to rest and share interesting things with my classmates,” said the 14-year-old student.
Starting this fall term, students at primary and middle schools in Beijing have longer breaks between classes. It has been changed from 10 minutes to 15 minutes so that students can spend more time outdoors.
To help children better enjoy break-time activities, some schools have mixed break time with labor education (劳动教育) by opening planting areas and animal feeding zones.
“We have welcomed new friends to our school—some ducks and rabbits!” said Zhang Boren, a 13-year-old boy from Beijing 101 Middle School Kuangda Campus. “During the breaks, some play with these cute animals, while others exercise on the playground. We get closer to the nature, which is refreshing (神清气爽的) and relaxing.”
As the break time is longer, making sure everyone is safe is also important. Physical education (PE) teachers from the School Affiliated to Chaoyang Education Research Center keep an eye on students playing on the ground.
“Sometimes the ground can be wet in the morning, so we tell the students to do more upper (上部的) body exercises to avoid running and slipping (滑倒),” said one PE teacher.

Everyone loves receiving gifts, and across cultures, presents are an important way to show care and love. However, traditions are not the same in every country.
As a European living in China, I have seen some interesting differences. For example, while fruit and milk are common gifts here, in my culture, they might be a better choice when you are visiting someone in the hospital.
When you get invited to a dinner party, a bottle of fine wine is also a good gift. Still, it’s best to check if your hosts drink wine in their daily life.
Many Europeans will usually open their presents right away, except in places like Germany. It’s also important to take off the price tag before giving gifts.
What can you do if you don’t like your gift In Spain, you still need to say you love the gift to avoid hurting the other person’s feelings. But if they remember to leave the receipt (收据) inside the gift, which is a very common practice in Spain, you can just exchange it for something else.
Re-gifting is another good idea, as long as the present looks new. Jennifer Molski from Chicago has turned re-gifting into a nice project, collecting gifts people didn’t want for those in need, CBs News reported.
How the present looks is also important. However, by using wrapping paper for every present we buy, we produce a lot of waste. Many Germans use high-quality wrapping paper, but some of them are now choosing newspaper or maps to help the environment.
Do Europeans give money as gifts Yes. Polish couples, for example, often request cash at weddings to cover the cost of the venue and meals.
Finally, remember: It’s the thought that counts, not the size or the cost of the gift.
42.Where does the writer come from
43.What do most Europeans usually do after receiving gifts
44.Why do Spanish people leave the receipt inside the gift
45.How do many Germans make their presents look so important
46.Do you agree with re-gifting Why or why not (请自拟一句话作答)

In cities, a growing number of people are turning their homes into small green gardens by keeping houseplants. According to a recent survey, about 65% of the families have at least three plants in their living spaces.
There are several reasons why indoor gardening has become so popular in the city. First, plants help make indoor air clean. They take in harmful things from the air and give out fresh oxygen. Second, looking after plants brings a sense of achievement, especially when seeing a small seed grow into a healthy plant. Moreover, plants are beautiful, ever-changing home decorations. Unlike static artworks (静态艺术品), living plants grow and change with the seasons, bringing natural beauty into city flats.
However, beginners often face some problems. Some choose unsuitable plants. For example, many beginners buy sun-loving plants like roses but place them in rooms with poor light. Overwatering is another common problem. New growers may water plants too often because they don’t know that most indoor plants prefer drier soil.
To help solve the problems, local gardening centers provide free guidance on choosing the right plants for different light conditions and proper watering skills. With the right knowledge, anyone can achieve success in home gardening. Moreover, many neighborhood communities have started plant exchange programs to share advice with beginners. Some schools have even added plant care into their life skills courses.
With these helpful resources, anyone in the city can develop a green thumb and enjoy the journey of growing alongside your plants. Why not begin your own indoor gardening adventure today
47.What are differences between living plants and static artworks
48.What problems do beginners often face in plant-growing
49.Why is overwatering bed for indoor plants
50.How do local gardening centers help solve the beginners’ problems
51.How can you try to be a green thumb (请自拟一句话回答)

Narrow lanes (小巷) are very common in China. They are usually about two metres wide, or six chi in traditional Chinese units. Most of them are nothing special. But Liu Chi Xiang (Six-chi Lane) in Tongcheng, Anhui, may be the most famous one.
Its story started back in the Qing Dynasty. Two local families, the Zhangs and the Wus, argued (争论) about the narrow lane between their houses. They couldn’t reach an agreement. The Zhang family were angry. Their relative, Zhang Ying, was a Daxueshi who held great power in the government. They wrote him a letter to ask for advice. When his reply came, they opened it to find a poem inside.
A letter from far away just for a wall.
Is not right or good at all.
Three chi to your neighbour as a gift
Is nothing as time continues to drift.
After reading it, the Zhang family felt ashamed. They stepped back three chi for their neighbour. This act deeply moved the Wu family. In return, they gave up another three chi. And so came the six-chi-wide lane between the two houses.
Hundreds of years has passed since then, and the lane is still there. The people of Tongcheng still keep the poem in mind. Whenever they walk down the lane, they remember how kindness encourages more kindness.

Many Westerners think that everyone in China knows how to do kung fu. This is, of course, a silly belief. But it is true that kung fu is a big part of Chinese culture.
Like most people from the West, I was first introduced to kung fu through Hong Kong action films. Some Chinese kung fu stars like Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan made kung fu popular in the Western world. The cool and impressive performances they gave in films like Rumble In The Bronx and Enter The Dragon made them household names in the US and elsewhere.
However, my own personal interest in kung fu was actually encouraged by a hip-hop group. Wu-Tang Clan, founded in the early 1990s in New York City, is one of the most famous hip-hop groups in history.
In their songs, they sometimes mention philosophical concepts (哲学理念) that come from wudang quan—the style of Chinese martial arts from which they take their name—and the Shaolin Monastery. I was just a teenager when I first started listening to Wu-Tang Clan—little did I know that I would actually end up living in China later in my life!
I myself do not practice kung fu. However, the concepts behind it are quite interesting to me. There is a Bruce Lee quote that I often think of when I’m struggling with challenges in life. “Be formless, shapeless, like water,” he once said. By this, he meant that you should be ready to change your attitudes (态度) or beliefs (信念) when you face difficulties. I think this is a good way to deal with life.
57.Who made kung fu popular in the Western world
58.What was the writer’s personal interest in kung fu encouraged by
59.When did the writer first start listening to Wu-Tang Clan
60.How does the writer face difficulties
61.What do you think of kung fu after reading this passage
According to some old Chinese stories, there once was an ancient emperor named Shennong. At that time, people could not tell the difference between medicinal and poisonous (有毒的) plants. When they got sick, there was no medicine to treat their illnesses. Many sick people could only wait for death.
To save his people, Shennong decided to find and test out different plants. He and his followers set out on a journey in search of medicinally effective plants. Once, they saw a large forest on a high cliff (悬崖) from a distance. There must be many different kinds of plants, but they couldn’t find a way to the cliff. Suddenly, they saw some monkeys climbing along the vines and trees hanging down from the cliff. Shennong was inspired by the scene. He asked his followers to cut down the tree trunks and vines. Together they built scaffold (脚手架), with its help, they climbed to the cliff and collected many valuable plants.
Each time the team found a new type of plant, Shennong would taste it himself. Some plants made him sleepy. Some caused him to suffer pains in his stomach. Some made him tremble (颤抖) all over. After searching and testing over a long period of time, he and his followers discovered hundreds of medicinal plants.
As they continued their search, the team found a plant with small yellow flowers on a mountain. When a young man reached for it, the plant moved like a worm. Shennong picked off one piece from the plant in order to taste it. Other people tried to stop him, but Shennong said calmly, “It looks like a medicinal plant. I have to test it, or some people may misuse it.”
Suddenly, Shennong’s face turned pale and he fell on the ground. Blood flowed from his mouth and nose. Even after he was given the leaves from other medicinal plants, he was still not able to recover. The emperor soon took his last breath. People covered him with thousands of flowers. From then on, they called him the “Emperor of Medicine”.
