① Located in Africa, the Sahara Desert spreads across 30 per cent of the land. This huge desert, also known as "the great desert" in Arabic, is about 9 million square kilometers in size. It is also at least 4.6 million years old. This means that it is one of the oldest places in the world.
② All deserts are dry, and the Sahara is both dry and hot. It is the largest hot desert in the world. We may think that all deserts are hot, but in fact some deserts are very cold! Many scientists believe that Antarctica, for example, is a type of cold desert.
③ Most of the Sahara is rocky ground. But there are also places with grass, lakes, mountains, and even sand seas. A sand sea is just what it sounds like—it looks like a sea of sand! When the wind blows, the sand looks like waves.
④ Life in the Sahara is difficult. About two million people live in the Sahara. They usually move from place to place. There is water in a few parts of the Sahara, and some people live in these places all year round.
⑤ Not many animals can live in a place with such a dry and hot climate. They must get used to living in the desert. Camels, for example, go for a long time without drinking water. When they do find water, they can drink more than 100 liters (公升) of it in a very short time. Fennec foxes live in the desert too. They have large ears to help their bodies stay cool.
⑥ Today, the world's largest hot desert is getting even bigger. It is now about 10 per cent larger than what it was about a century ago. But why is it growing Some scientists believe that part of the reason is climate change. As temperatures rise, summers in Africa grow hotter and less rain falls. Water bodies get smaller and the ground gets drier and drier. If we do not take immediate actions, the desert will keep growing!
19.What information does the writer introduce in Paragraph 1
A.Life, location and size. B.History, climate and size.
C.Size, climate and geography. D.Size, history and location.
20.What does "sand seas" in Paragraph 3 refer to
A.Seas with sand under the water.
B.Large areas of sand that look like the sea.
C.Lakes and mountains in the desert.
D.Rocky ground covered with seawater.
21.How do camels get used to living in the Sahara
A.They have large ears to stay cool.
B.They live in places with grass and lakes.
C.They can live without water for a long time.
D.They drink more than 100 litres of water every day.
22.What can we infer from the last paragraph
A.Climate change is the only reason for the Sahara's growth.
B.The Sahara Desert will stop growing if the temperature drops.
C.Human activities have no influence on the growth of the Sahara.
D.If we do nothing, the Sahara will become even larger in the future.

Long lines for food have become common in cities around the world. Tourists often wait in line for snacks that are not necessarily tasty or healthy. These are usually simple things such as donuts (甜甜圈), fries, or sandwiches. 浙考神墙 620
While the food may be tasty, something else is behind the growing lines.
One reason might be FOMO—fear of missing out. When people see a long line, they think, "There must be something special here," and don't want to miss an experience that everyone else seems to be enjoying. So, they join the line, just in case.
But FOMO is only part of the story.
These days, people don't just travel to taste new food or see new places—they also want to show others what they are doing. Many tourists film themselves standing in line or take selfies (自拍) with their food. Sometimes, it's not even about enjoying the snack—it's about showing they were there.
Most viral snacks are discovered on social media, with platforms like TikTok and Instagram showing people what is popular based on their interests. These apps often suggest the same food places to millions of users, and as a result, many tourists end up visiting the same places they saw online.
However, this can also bring problems, and locals in tourist—heavy areas are starting to push back. In Amsterdam, for example, people living near the popular fries shop FabelFriet say the crowds and noise are too much. They've also asked the city to control the number of tourists who can visit the city each year.
In the end, these long lines are not just about food—they are about being part of something and sharing it with others.
23.Which situation best shows the meaning of FOMO
A.Sam joins his friends to wait for a new snack, afraid to be left out.
B.Amy checks food reviews carefully before trying a new snack.
C.Emma refuses to buy a popular drink because it's too expensive.
D.Mark leaves the long line quickly because he can't stand waiting for 10 minutes.
24.What does the underlined words "viral snacks" mean
A.Snacks that are healthy, tasty and popular online.
B.Snacks that have a long history and are loved by locals.
C.Snacks that are made with something bad for health.
D.Snacks that spread quickly online and then become very popular.
25.Which picture is most likely the illustration (插图) of this passage
A. B.
C. D.
26.What is the main purpose of the passage
A.To tell tourists how to avoid waiting in long lines.
B.To introduce some popular snacks around the world.
C.To advise social media to stop sharing popular food places.
D.To explain why long lines for food happen and the problems they cause.

① I'm now very old and near the end of my life. But I can still remember many many years ago, I lived with my mother, aunts and cousins in a wild and beautiful land. We enjoyed our time under the deep blue sky. We had more than enough to eat. We never worried about anything until one day, when I was about three.
② On that day, a group of two-legged strangers appeared in front of us—I found out later that they were humans. Without warning they raised their guns and shot dead my mother and several of my relatives. As I was about to be shot, one of them said, "Keep that little one. He's handsome and seems smart. We can make greater use of him." I was then trained and made to do all kinds of stupid acts to make humans laugh.
③ Now, years and years later, things are changing for the better. Our population is starting to grow again. My great-great-grandsons and granddaughters are able to move freely across the land. They search for food, water and places to rest. The little ones sometimes break crops and people's homes. But they are not chased or harmed. There are no angry humans going after them. Instead, people leave them bags of corn and fruit on the roadside. The food leads them in the right direction back to their homeland. Drones (无人机) follow their progress and volunteers protect them from harm. The little ones do not have to worry about anything. They move around without a care in the world. They eat when they are hungry and sleep when tired. They swim in the river and play when they feel like it. No one asks them to move away from their land.
④ What a wonderful world this is! This is a world of harmony between man and other animals. In the old world, we were killed for our tusks (象牙). In this new world, humans respect and value all animals.

【答案】23.A

① I'm now very old and near the end of my life. But I can still remember many many years ago, I lived with my mother, aunts and cousins in a wild and beautiful land. We enjoyed our time under the deep blue sky. We had more than enough to eat. We never worried about anything until one day, when I was about three.

They eat when they are hungry and sleep when tired. They swim in the river and play when they feel like it. No one asks them to move away from their land.
