A
Refik Anadol, a 38-year-old Turkish artist, has become one of the most famous digital
artists of his generation. His work seems to be everywhere. Last year, he projected bright coral images onto a wall at the World Economic Forum. His animations (动画) also covered the huge
screen of the Sphere in Las Vegas. In October, the Museum of Modern Art in New York bought one of his works.
So why is he so popular Anadol sees AI as a powerful creative tool. In a world where so much of life happens online, he believes data has become a new kind of“paint”.
Anadol has a deep background in both art and science. He trains AI models on huge
amounts of publicly available data to create colorful animations. He calls them “data paintings” when they appear on screens, and “data sculptures” when they move across walls.
Where does his data come from One artwork used 70 terabytes of brain scans. Another used recordings of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. A third combined more than 138,000 images from a museum with local weather data. The results are swirling clouds and waves, as well as abstract images.
Anadol’s work has proved popular. In 2022, about 2.4 million people visited his exhibition in New York. His style is easy to understand. You don’t need to know how machine learning
works to enjoy it.
Of course, Anadol has critics as well as admirers. Some compare his animations to fancy
screensavers—more spectacular than meaningful. Like anything created by AI, his work raises
questions about originality. Is it truly creative, or does it simply recycle the work of others Some also worry that he presents a too-rosy view of AI, ignoring its risks.
Anadol acknowledges that AI is changing everything—and not always for the better. But he remains excited about what the technology can do. “I don’t see the problem there,” he says. “I see possibilities.”
His latest project trained AI models on photos and sounds collected from 16 rainforests
around the world. Anadol uses prompts to create lifelike creatures. Eagles turn into owls, which turn into toucans. The main idea is the connection between all living things. AI, he says, offers “a new brush—a thinking brush”.
Whether you like his art or not, people will be seeing a lot more of Anadol’s work.

In modern society, sitting for long hours has become the norm for many people — whether at a desk, in a car, or on a sofa. However, a growing body of research suggests that prolonged sitting is harmful to health, even for those who exercise regularly. A 2021 study published in the British
Journal of Sports Medicine found that sitting for more than eight hours a day without physical activity increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes, and early death by up to 60%.
But what if you have a desk job Experts say small changes can make a big difference. Dr.
Emily Carter, a public health researcher, recommends the “5-minute break rule”: after every 30 minutes of sitting, stand up and move for at least 2 to 5 minutes. Simple activities like walking to get water, stretching, or climbing stairs can help restore blood flow and reduce muscle stiffness.
Another effective strategy is using a standing desk. A study from the University of Leicester
followed 1,200 office workers for one year. Half of them used adjustable standing desks, while the other half remained seated. The results showed that those using standing desks reported 45% less back and neck pain. Moreover, their energy levels improved significantly by the afternoon.
Interestingly, even fidgeting — small movements like tapping your feet or shifting in your
chair — can help. A 2019 study from the University of Missouri found that people who fidgeted
while sitting had healthier blood flow in their legs compared to those who sat completely still.
The message is clear: our bodies are designed to move, not to remain fixed in one position for hours. As Dr. Carter puts it, “Every small movement counts. The worst sitting position is your
next one — so keep changing it.”
5 .What does the 2021 study reveal about prolonged sitting
A .It is harmless for people who exercise daily.
B .It increases the risk of several health problems.
C .It only affects people with desk jobs.
D .It improves blood flow in the legs.
6 .What is the “5-minute break rule” suggested by Dr. Carter
A .Take a 5-minute nap every 30 minutes.
B .Move for 2-5 minutes after every 30 minutes of sitting.
C .Stand for 5 minutes every hour.
D .Exercise for 30 minutes after 5 hours of sitting.
7 .What benefit did standing desk users report in the University of Leicester study
A .Better eyesight.
B .Lower risk of diabetes.
C .Less back and neck pain.
D .Faster walking speed.
8 .What does the author imply by saying “The worst sitting position is your next one”
A .People should find the perfect sitting posture.
B .Staying in any position for too long is harmful.
C .Sitting is better than standing.
D .Only the first sitting position matters.

Plastic pollution has reached crisis levels across the globe. Each year, more than 8 million tons of plastic waste flow into the world’s oceans, harming marine life, polluting water supplies, and
entering the food chain. Sea creatures often mistake plastic bags and bottles for food, leading to injury or death. Microplastics — tiny fragments less than five millimeters long — have been
found in everything from seafood to drinking water, raising concerns about potential health risks to humans.
Governments and environmental groups are taking action to fight plastic pollution. Many
countries have introduced bans on single-use plastics like straws, cups, and cutlery. Some
businesses are switching to eco-friendly packaging made from paper, cardboard, or plant-based materials. In addition, cleanup campaigns are removing tons of plastic from beaches and oceans every year.
However, solving the problem requires more than just bans and cleanups. Experts emphasize the need for a circular economy — one where plastic products are designed to be reused, repaired, or recycled instead of being thrown away after a single use. This means changing how products
are made and encouraging consumers to adopt more sustainable habits.
Individual action also plays a vital role. Simple choices like using reusable water bottles,
bringing cloth bags to the store, and properly sorting waste can make a significant difference. As more people become aware of the issue and take steps to reduce their plastic use, there is hope for a cleaner, healthier planet.
9 .What does the underlined phrase “circular economy” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A .An economic system that focuses on fast production and sales.
B .An economic model where materials are reused and recycled.
C .A business strategy to increase profits from plastic products.
D .A production method to reduce the cost of making plastics.
10 .What is the main idea of the text
A .The harmful effects of plastic pollution on ocean life.
B .Different ways to recycle plastic waste worldwide.
C .Efforts being made to fight plastic pollution globally.
D .The importance of individual actions in environmental protection.
11 .Which of the following is mentioned as a way to reduce plastic pollution
A .Stopping the production of all plastic products.
B .Using plant-based packaging materials.
C .Building more plastic waste landfills.
D .Increasing the use of disposable plastic items.
12 .What can we infer from the last paragraph
A .Individual actions have little effect on plastic pollution.
B .People’s awareness helps improve the plastic pollution situation.
C .Sorting waste is the most effective way to solve plastic pollution.
D .All people have realized the harm of plastic pollution.

I used to be a lonely girl sitting at the back of the classroom. Having failed the college
entrance exams and changed schools twice, I seldom smiled. Every day I would sit at the desk,
staring into textbooks and exercises, motionless and heavy-hearted. However, my classmates were in a different picture. They were playing, laughing and chatting delightedly. Besides, I hated it
when they were always answering the teachers’ questions, loudly and confidently. Obviously, I had no friends in this fiercely competitive class.
Life is harder for senior students. Hardly does a day go by without exercises or tests. Every time when the scores came out mine wouldn’t be the first or second but last. I was especially tired of the endless exercises and exams, which I seemingly would never do well in. I was under a lot of pressure, feeling like a fish being fried in a pan.
Hanging over me was a dark cloud. The only dim light came from Mr. Smith. Every time I stepped into the classroom, he welcomed me with a warm smile; every time my gaze began to
wander over the classroom or stare out of the window, his caring eyes would draw me back to his class. Besides, he was the only teacher who invited me to the office, talking about my studies and scores. I remembered when I came out of his office, I felt refreshed believing that I could work
harder.
I was feeling everything was changing for the better. I prepared hard for the final exam of the first semester, desiring to prove that I was not the last one. So before Mr. Smith told us the test result, I was expecting something good in store for me.
But I was still the last one in the class. A burst of sadness and shame consuming me, I was heartbroken.
注意:1.续写词数应为 150 左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Right at that moment, Mr. Smith invited me to his office.

He encouraged me to embrace my struggles, reminding me that success was never a straight path. In his eyes, I could see his belief in me, and I knew I should never quit.

seemingly endless night, a reward for the perseverance I didn’t know I had until Mr. Smith
showed me. Tears welling up in my eyes. Mr. Smith might never know how much his
encouragement might mean to me in my toughest time.
