With a thirst for a new challenge, I decided to begin my language journey and my only
regret is that I didn't start earlier. Since starting to learn, I have made good progress. The Hanyu
Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) is a test of Chinese language for non-native speakers. In July 2020, I passed my HSK3 exam with a score of 100 percent. I am now almost ready to start HSK5.
Learning to speak Chinese isn't as insurmountable as I once thought. When I speak to
native speakers in Chinese, they almost always understand me. I also find it not too difficult to
remember characters and I am now even able to write over 400 characters. I find studying the
language relaxing and worthwhile, particularly writing the characters. The thing I find most
challenging is listening since native speakers talk at such a speed. I can't always understand what's been said, but my weekly online language exchanges help with this greatly.
Despite my progress, it has still been the challenge I desire and has taken a lot of hard work. Furthermore, there is a long way to go before I reach my goal of fluency. The key to progress is to be patient and persistent The satisfaction that comes from simple things like
ordering food in Chinese, buying things on the Internet or communicating with a taxi driver makes all the hard work worth it.
My biggest takeaway from learning Chinese is that it's not only doable but can also be
enjoyable. Learning Chinese not only helped me in day-to-day life, but deepened my cultural
understanding of such a colorful and beautiful country. Considering where I am now, compared to two years ago, as long as I keep studying hard, I can image a time when I'll be able to read
famous Chinese novels not in English but in the original text. So, to all my non-Chinese friends, I always say “Don’t give up. Embrace (拥抱) the challenge.”
4 .Which one is the most difficult for the author
A .Writing characters. B .Taking part in HSK exams.
C .Listening to the native speaking. D .Speaking to a taxi driver.
5 .What does the underlined word “insurmountable” mean in paragraph 2
A.Easy to upset. B.Possible to change. C.Comfortable to study. D.Hard to overcome. 6 .Why does the author think learning Chinese is satisfying
A .It can make the author proud. B .It makes the author know more Chinese.
C .It can be useful in daily life. D .It makes the author more competitive.
7 .Which can be a suitable title for the text
A .Passing exams isn't a piece of cake B .Learning Chinese isn't unbeatable
C .Explore the historical and cultural country D .Deepen understanding of Chinese culture

The wandering Earth 聂, a science-fiction movie, has aroused hot debate among galaxy
scientists and science-fiction writers, both in China and overseas. Among them, John Gribbin, a UK-based science writer, speaks highly of rising science education in China and says that’s what makes science fiction prosper.
“It is very important in this technological age for people to understand the fundamentals of science, and then popular science writing can inform them of the world around them,” he says.
“This is a bit like music. Even if you are not a great musician, if you know a little bit, you gain a deeper appreciation of great music.” Zhou Binghong, a researcher at the China Academy of Space Technology, holds a similar view. “The more scientific knowledge one gains, the more questions he or she will have about how the world runs. This leaves them wanting to know more, especially youngsters.”
Both episodes of The Wandering Earth include quite a few imagined technologies that need basic scientific knowledge to understand. In the latest one, for example, what aroused most fierce discussions among the public is a “space elevator” that enables astronauts to complete their trips
to space by taking an elevator instead of a rocket. On various platforms, there are discussions about whether such an elevator is possible. If it is, what materials would be used
For Zhou, such discussions themselves mean the public has a taste for science. He says, “Interest marks the first step toward creativity. Who knows who will emerge as an engineer for such an elevator in 50 years’ time ”
Impressed by the progress of science-related industries in China, Gribbin says that, “It is going from strength to strength,” and that, “China is one of the leading countries for scientific
research and technological development, and the Chinese people are naturally interested in these developments.”
8 .What leads to the popularity of science fiction according to Paragraph 1
A .The charm of science. B .The attraction of literature.
C .The popularity of the film. D .The development of science education.
9 .Why does the author mention the music in Paragraph 2
A .To stress music is necessary in science.
B .To tell why music appreciation is important.
C .To show the relationship between music and science.
D .To indicate the importance of learning scientific knowledge.
10 .Which is the function of“space elevator” in The Wandering Earth
A .It helps control the rocket. B .It sends astronauts into space.
C .It enables astronauts to walk in space. D .It maintains astronauts’ safety in space.
11 .Which of the following can be the best title for this text
A .Putting Science into Fiction B .Fictions Gaining Popularity
C .Science Planting Seeds of Hope D .A Leading Country for Scientific Research
D
We all know someone who never seems to be on time. But is there a good explanation for why some people are always late The habit of being late probably results from a number of
factors, including time perception (知觉), time management and personality, experts say.
“It is likely that there’s a mechanism in the brain that causes some people to be late for
meetings because they underestimate the time it will take them to get there,” said Hugo Spiers, a professor of cognitive neuroscience at University College London.
“The hippocampus (海马体) is a region of the brain which processes some aspects of time, such as remembering when to do something and how long it takes,” Spiers said. Neurons in the
hippocampus acting as “time cells” contribute to our perception and memory of events, but why exactly some people always underestimate time is unclear.
One factor may be how familiar we are with space. For the 2017 study, Spiers asked 20
students who had newly moved to London to sketch a map of their college district and estimate
travel time to different destinations. While the students’ space estimates expanded if they knew an area well, their estimates of travel time reduced with familiarity. “If you’re very familiar with a
space, you start to discount the trouble it will take.” Spiers said.
Another environmental factor may be crowdedness. In a 2022 study, researchers asked participants to estimate the length of more or less crowded simulated subway trips. They found that crowded commutes felt like they took 10% longer than less busy rides.
Personality also plays a role in running late. Certain personality traits, such as reduced
conscientiousness (责任), can cause some people to forget tasks that they had planned ahead of time. Another factor that may influence a person’s timeliness is his or her tendency to multitask. Research has shown that people who multitask are less likely to remember and complete other scheduled tasks on time.
12 .What role does the hippocampus play according to the text
A .It processes time-related memory. B .It measures distance accurately.
C .It helps with multitasking abilities. D .It predicts future events with precision.
13 .What is the fourth paragraph mainly about
A .The importance of a college district.
B .A study on the adaptation of new students.
C .The effect of familiarity with space on time estimation.
D .The influence of environmental factors on travel time.
14 .Which of the following factors is least likely to be related to being late according to the text
A .Familiarity with space. B .The brain’s perception of time.
C .The speed of a person’s walking. D .The crowdedness of public transportation.
15 .In which section of a website can we probably read the text
A .Health Culture. B .Entertainment News.
C .Education and Learning. D .Lifestyle and Psychology.

Jack looked out of the car window when he and his mom passed their old neighborhood. His fingers tapped nervously on his backpack as his mom told him the moving company had
found some lost boxes from their recent move, and she could get them that afternoon.
A feeling of hope rose in Jack’ s heart. He asked quietly if Big Dog might be in the boxes. Grandpa had bought the treasured toy dog for him at the fair three years before. Though now eight years old, Jack still needed his old friend back on the shelf above his bed, which had been empty since they moved.
His mom said she wasn’t sure. Her voice trembled as she added that the photo albums were confirmed lost by the company — all those precious pictures of festive occasions, birthday
celebrations, and family gatherings were gone. Jack recognized that voice, the one that she used
when trying to be strong. He knew what the albums meant to her. She promised to check the boxes carefully before picking him up, giving his shoulder a comforting pat (轻拍)。
All day at school, Jack found it hard to sit still, his eyes constantly darting (瞟) to the clock. During math class, he missed Big Dog’s lovely eyes. At lunch, he recalled Grandma’s warm hug and bright smile from those lost photos. On the playground, his mind wandered back to the joy of their whole family together-laughing and running along the beach under a clear blue sky.
As the art class bell finally rang, Mr. Light announced, “Today you are free to draw
anything you wish.” Jack stared at the blank paper, memories rushing back. The sad face of his mom popped up and then an idea came to him — maybe he could find a new way to save those memories.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为 150 个左右;
He knew what he could draw.
After school, Jack rushed to his mom, with the drawing in his hand.

根据第一段“The North American Guqin Association (NAGA) has developed a new class series that will combine (融合) poetry and music with guqin study and aims to deepen the appreciation of Chinese poetry and guqin culture through the exploration of guqin
根据 Fees and schedules 部分“Fee: $150 (one session) or $480 (4 sessions)(费用:$150(一节)或$480 (4 节))”和 Instruments 部分“NAGA class sponsor will provide discounts for students who want to buy guqins in the class, with prices starting from only $199(NAGA 课程赞助商将为想在课堂上购买古琴的学生提供折扣,起价仅为 199 美元)”可知,选择 4 节课并购买一件乐器至少要花 480+199=679 美元,故选 C。
通读全文,尤其是第一段“The North American Guqin Association (NAGA) has developed a new class series that will combine (融合) poetry and music with guqin study and aims to deepen the appreciation of Chinese poetry and guqin culture through the exploration of guqin

The thing I find most challenging is listening since
Learning to speak Chinese isn't as
insurmountable as I once thought. When I speak to native speakers in Chinese, they almost always understand me. I also find it not too difficult to remember characters and I am now even able to
The satisfaction that comes from simple things like
ordering food in Chinese, buying things on the Internet or communicating with a taxi driver makes all the hard work worth it.(一些小事带来的满足感,比如用中文点餐,在网上购物或是和出租车司机交流,让我感到所有的辛苦都是值得的)”可知,正是日常生活中对汉语的使用让作者对学习中文感到满足。故选 C 项。

understand the fundamentals of science, and then popular science writing can inform them of the
world around them,” he says. “This is a bit like music. Even if you are not a great musician, if you know a little bit, you gain a deeper appreciation of great music.” Zhou Binghong, a researcher at
the China Academy of Space Technology, holds a similar view.(“在这个科技时代,人们了解科学的基本原理是非常重要的,科学写作可以告诉他们周围的世界的信息,”他说。“这有点像音乐。即使你不是一个伟大的音乐家,如果你知道一点点,你就会对伟大的音乐有更深的欣赏。” 中国空间技术研究院研究员周炳红也持类似观点)”可推知,提到音乐是为了说明学习科学知识的重要性。故选 D。
3. 细节理解题。根据第三段“ In the latest one, for example, what aroused most fierce discussions among the public is a “space elevator” that enables astronauts to complete their trips to space by

46 .Dear Editor,
I’m Li Hua, a student from our school. I’m writing to offer some suggestions on how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions personally and socially, in response to your essay activity
themed “Go Green, Cut Carbon”.
First, individuals should choose low-carbon travel, such as walking, cycling or taking
public transport instead of driving private cars. Second, we ought to form the habit of saving
energy, turning off lights and other electrical appliances when not in use. Third, the society should promote renewable energy, like solar and wind power, and encourage more factories to adopt
environmentally-friendly production methods.
I hope my suggestions will be helpful. Let’s work together to protect our planet.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
47 .例文
He knew what he could draw. Jack grabbed his crayons with determination. First, he
vividly depicted his seventh birthday: Grandma’s face beaming with a smile as he blew out the candles. Next came a sunny beach scene — his whole family laughing and running along the
shore. Finally, he drew the special moment when Grandpa gave him Big Dog. He connected all these scenes into one big picture, leaving one corner empty for new memories. When the bell
rang, he gently rolled up his masterpiece, eager to share it with his mom.
After school, Jack rushed to his mom, with the drawing in his hand. Breathlessly, he
showed her his artwork. Her eyes welled up as she recognized each precious moment.
Overwhelmed, she pulled him into a warm hug and then revealed Big Dog, which she had found in the recovered boxes. Seeing his old friend, Jack leaped with great joy, clutching it to his chest. When his mom noticed the blank corner, she suggested drawing the whole family in their new
house. In that moment, they realized it was love that kept memories alive, and that together, they could always create new ones.
