The first time I visited Germany with my friend, I was very young and hadn’t been to many places. Instantly we arrived, I had an incredible thought. “I know all about this area, especially the food and the language. I know all about the Black
Forest.” I said to his German family. “How do you know about this ” they asked, in disbelief.
That was the first time it had hit me how much I knew about the rest ofthe
world, and how prepared I was for it, just from growing up in New York City — that I had been everywhere before I’d ever actually gone anywhere.
I grew up in the Chelsea Projects. Most kids there were first generation
Americans with immigrant parents who were still speaking Chinese or Portuguese, or just name a language, and they were speaking it. You ate every imaginable food from the rest ofthe world there. You were exposed to all different kinds of traditions.
It wasn’t just that. The whole city was a classroom. All over town, you learned stuff you didn’t even know you were learning. You didn’t have to be rich to learn it, either. My mom was a teacher and she made sure I got involved in everything New York had to offer people who didn’t have any money.
We went to all the museums, which were free back then. We’d ride the bus to Lincoln Center and watched dancers dancing there. Or we’d take the train to Coney Island. Those trips are among my fondest memories.
New York City shaped who I am. It’s where I learned that I could pursue
whatever I loved, but that I couldn’t be a slacker The city is everything you’ve heard it is. It’s crazy, it’s awesome, it’s magnificent. It’s a real live wire, hard to leave.
4 .What is the author’s inner reaction to arriving in Germany
A .A sense of total confusion. B .A doubt about the food.
C .A concern about the language. D .A feeling of deep familiarity.
5 .What does the “Chelsea Projects” experience mainly bring about
A .The author’s desire for traveling. B .The author’s pride in his hometown.
C .The author’s struggle with poverty. D .The author’s early global awareness.
6 .Why does the author mention the trips to museums and centers in paragraph 5
A.To showcase the richness of urban life. B.To stress the value of mother’s guidance.
C .To prove the city’s role as a free school. D .To record the author’s childhood hobbies.
7 .What can be a suitable title for the text
A .Traveling Far for New Sights. B .Growing Up in a Traditional Family.
C.Moving Out for Better Education. D.Learning Big in a Wall less Community.

We live in a time of growing anxiety and fear. As AI becomes more capable and widespread in daily routines, anxieties surrounding it are likely to intensify. Just like any form of anxiety, it’s important to acknowledge your feelings and take steps to
avoid becoming overwhelmed.
Psychologists suggest several specific strategies for managing anxiety about generative AI. These include: trying out AI tools to figure out how and where they can be useful; taking breaks from technology to restore and recharge; building new skills; and pursuing activities that activate human creativity and imagination.
I would like to expand on the third strategy — building new skills. In a recent study, my colleagues and I investigated the skills required to succeed in the future of work. We reviewed six studies and identified 10 key skills: cooperation,
communication, creativity and innovation, critical thinking, cross-cultural ability, decision-making, judgment, willingness to learn, problem-solving, and social
intelligence cognition (认知). Importantly, all these skills are “human” skills,
meaning not digital or technological. In their context, perhaps one of the most
effective responses to anxiety about AI is focusing on developing our own human abilities.
While researchers argue that the destructive potential of AI in the workplace
involves one of three channels: replacing aspects of human work; complementing (补充) or enhancing human workers and their skills; and creating new tasks for workers, the second might be the best path forward. Rather than viewing generative AI only as
a threat, it can be seen as a tool that enhances human abilities.
Exploring how our own cognitive and creative capacities could be enhanced through “cooperative intelligence” with generative AI might be a useful cure-all to being anxious about it.
8 .What phenomenon does the author point out in paragraph 1
A .AI tools replace traditional jobs. B .AI progress causes emotional stress.
C .AI systems require complex routines. D .AI research faces growing resistance.
9 .What does the author imply in paragraph 3
A.Digital skills ensure future success. B.Human capacities remain highly valuable.
C.New technology changes research methods.D .Social intelligence improves work efficiency.
10 .What does the underlined word “cure-all” in the last paragraph mean
A .Solution. B .Material. C .Principle. D .Instrument.
11 .What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
A .To analyze AI’s rapid development. B .To illustrate people’s anxiety over AI.
C .To offer us advice to meet AI challenges. D .To inform us of the threats presented by AI.

Chaotan One, the world’s first commercial power generator that uses
supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2), has begun operations in China. This achievement breaks a century-old tradition of using steam for power generation, marking a major improvement in efficiency.
Over the years, the steam engine’s efficiency was further improved through
different designs and fuels; however, the medium for doing work remained the same — steam. Scientists seeking further improvements noticed that a significant part of energy is wasted in generating steam to drive turbines (涡轮机). Water needs to be boiled first and undergo a state change, which leads to energy loss.
To maximize efficiency, researchers have been looking for a better medium to replace steam. They found supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO2) in CO2. Unlike water,
it can be easily pressurized at relatively low temperatures and remains in a
supercritical state throughout the entire process. With no state change loss, it offers a more flexible and powerful alternative for modern energy systems.
In this supercritical state, it exhibits the properties of both a liquid and a gas — a unique combination that allows it to move a turbine with less resistance while
providing greater “push” power. The power generation process begins by pressurizing it into this state, after which it passes through a heat exchange r to absorb heat,
reaching temperatures of 400-600℃ . It then enters a turbine and expands rapidly, transforming thermal energy (热能) into mechanical energy to generate electricity.
The success of the Chaotan One will likely start a new era in power generation. By using CO2 as a medium and bypassing the need to transform water into steam, this technology offers a cleaner and more efficient path for the future. As this
breakthrough becomes more widespread, it may eventually replace the traditional
steam-based systems that have dominated the industry since the Industrial Revolution.
12 .What does Chaotan One’s breakthrough suggest
A .A new energy has been discovered. B .The use of traditional fuels has ended
C .Power generation efficiency is redefined. D .Steam-based systems are environmentally safe.
13 .What is the author’s attitude toward the traditional steam-based system
A .Pessimistic. B .Objective. C .Appreciative. D .Doubtful.
14 .What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about Chaotan One
A .The working principle. B .The technical partnership.
C .The physical components. D .The historical background.
15 .What can we expect of the Chaotan One technology in the future
A.It will speed up the Industrial Revolution. B.It could take the place of traditional fuels.
C.It may transform water into a cleaner medium. D.It might lead to a change in the power industry.

My friend James did some first-aid training at work last week to learn the
fundamentals of CPR and he asked if I’d ever done the same. Yes, I’ve attended
several CPR sessions over the years. And I’ve always come away with a wealth of information. But no, I don’t exactly feel “trained” to save lives. 16 Here’s what I should have done — and what you can do now — to make sure any training doesn’t go to waste.
Test yourself before you start. You might be surprised to find that you’ve got some foundations of knowledge to build on. 17 It puts you in a “hungry” frame of mind.
Write questions as you learn. Don’t waste time making notes. This can trick
your memory into thinking that your brain doesn’t have to work because the
information is all stored in your notebook. Instead, list your questions for the future.
18
Challenge your recall later. Wait a day, then see how much you still know. If it’s hard to remember, you might experience “desirable difficulty” — you need that little bit of struggle to move information into permanent storage.
19 Put a note in your diary to test yourself again in a week, then ten days after that, then a month on … Use the questions you wrote on the day to keep challenging yourself.
Talking to James has inspired me to book myself onto yet another CPR course. 20 Remember that it’s the next day when the real training starts.
A .Make your notes afterwards.
B .Keep coming back over time.
C .Pre-testing sparks your curiosity.
D .But this time I’m determined to do it right.
E .This approach makes your brain work harder.
F .I’ve always taken it seriously and been focused.
G .Practically nothing has ever made it to my long-term memory.

Every morning, Emily stood in front of the mirror, adjusting her hair, smoothing her blouse, checking her face one more time. “Do I look fine ” she would ask herself again and again. At school, she felt unconfident. Not like Daisy, who wore stylish
clothes and laughed loudly in the hallway. Not like Ben, who answered every
question loudly, casually and confidently. “Why can’t I be more like them ” she thought to herself.
Last week, the school announced the annual speech contest themed “Find Your Voice”. Emily’s heart jumped. She had written poems in secret for years. This could be her chance to make her voice heard.
Still, she hesitated. She watched Daisy sign up with a smile and Ben with a
confident wave. No one else seemed afraid. That night, she opened her notebook and read her own poems over and over again. Her voice was soft, but the words felt
sincere. The next day, she took a deep breath and added her name to the list.
The night before the tryout (试演), she practiced in her room. “I believe ” she began…, then stopped. With her hands trembling, she tried again, but her throat
tightened.
On the day of the tryout, she arrived early. One by one, the students performed, speaking confidently, loudly and even humorously. Then it was her turn. She stood
up, and the room went quiet. She opened her mouth, but nothing came out. Her hands shook with her face burning. She whispered, “Sorry,” and ran out.
In an empty art room she sat on the floor, head in her hands. “Hey.” She looked up. It was Miss Chen, the drama teacher. “Tough moment ” she asked, sitting beside her.
Emily nodded, eyes wet, “I wanted to say something real…but I froze.” Miss
Chen smiled gently. “Sometimes the quietest voices have the most to say.” She added, “Your voice deserves to be heard.”
注意:
(1)续写词数应为 150 左右;
Miss Chen took Emily’s notebook and read through it.

My friend James did some first-aid training at work last week to learn the
fundamentals of CPR and he asked if I’d ever done the same. Yes, I’ve attended several CPR
sessions over the years. And I’ve always come away with a wealth of information. But no, I don’t exactly feel “trained” to save lives.(我的朋友詹姆斯上周在工作单位参加了急救培训,学习了心肺复苏术的基本知识。

This can trick your memory into thinking that your brain doesn’t have to work because the information is all stored in your notebook. Instead, list your questions for the future.(在学习过程中随时写下问题。
Put a note in your diary to test yourself again in a week, then ten days after that,
then a month on… Use the questions you wrote on the day to keep challenging yourself.(在你的
20 .根据上文“Talking to James has inspired me to book myself onto yet another CPR course.(与詹姆斯的交谈让我决定再报名参加一次心肺复苏课程)”可知,受朋友启发,打算再报一期急救课程。

Dear fellow students,
It is a common phenomenon that many senior 2 students are under great pressure, thus developing many unhealthy lifestyles.
Some of us frequently skip meals or rely on fast food, and others seldom engage in physical activities. Such habits threaten our health, leading to a decline in both physical fitness and mental well-being.
Therefore, we should adopt a healthy lifestyle. First, it’s necessary to take 30 minutes of
physical exercise every day, which enables us to feel more dynamic. Furthermore, we should keep a regular schedule and ensure enough sleep to refresh our mind. Additionally, having a balanced diet instead of skipping meals is a must.
Let’s take action now to say goodbye to unhealthy lifestyles and embrace a healthier and more energetic school life!
Yours,
Li Hua

Miss Chen took Emily’s notebook and read through it. A look of surprise and
admiration crossed her face. “Emily, these poems are wonderful because your words are so
sincere,” she said softly. Encouraged by Miss Chen’s heartfelt praise, Emily decided to try again. They stayed in the quiet art room for a while, where Miss Chen showed her how to breathe deeply to relieve tension. Under Miss Chen’s guidance, she felt more and more prepared to show her
voice in the next performance.
The next afternoon in the classroom, Emily stood before her fellow classmates. This
time, instead of shaking hands, she took a deep breath and started with a soft but steady voice. As she read her poems, her classmates were fascinated by the heartfelt emotions in her poems. The
moment she finished, she was greeted with thunderous applause and an approving nod from Miss Chen. Emily smiled brightly, realizing that she had finally found her voice in the most beautiful way.
