The Healthy Eating Plate presents a simple visual guide to building a healthy meal. By showing different food groups on one plate, it stresses balance, choice, and everyday eating habits.
HEALTHY EATING PLATE
Use healthy oils (like olive and canola oil) for cooking, on salad, and at the table. Limit butter. Avoid trans fat. Drink water, tea, or coffee (with little or no sugar). Limit milk/dairy (1-2 servings/day) and juice (1 small glass/day). Avoid sugary drinks.
The more veggies — and the greater the variety — the better. Potatoes and French fries are excluded. Eat a variety of whole grains (like whole-wheat bread, whole-grain pasta, and brown rice). Limit refined grains (like white rice and white bread).
Eat plenty of fruits of all colors. STAY ACTIVE! Choose fish, poultry, beans, and nuts; limit red meat and cheese; avoid bacon, cold cuts, and other processed meats.
These guidelines highlight what matters most in healthy eating:
The type of carbohydrate (碳水化合物) in the diet is more important than the amount of carbohydrate, because some sources — like vegetables (other than
potatoes), fruits, whole grains, and beans — are healthier than others.
It advises consumers to avoid sugary drinks, a major source of calories — usually with little nutritional value — in the American diet.
It encourages consumers to use healthy oils, and it does not set a maximum on the percentage of calories people should get each day from healthy sources offat. In this way, the Healthy Eating Plate recommends the opposite of the low-fat message
promoted for decades by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

I remember when I started telling people about my upcoming solo (独自的)
travel to Mongolia, I was met with surprise and often confusion. My manager at the time gave me a funny look and warned me against going there. I didn’t panic. I’d
done my research. Mongolia wasn’t as dangerous as people thought — in fact, it’s far safer than a lot of more frequented countries, like South America.
The thing about Mongolia is … no one has been there. I don’t know a single
other person in my life who has been there. Except for the friends I made while I was there.
That’s the thing about solo travel — you don’t technically have to do it alone.
Since Mongolia held some risks to it and is considered one of the most remote regions in the world, I decided tojoin a small-group tour.
I admit I was a little nervous. Looking up past trips on this company’s website, it looked like it was a whole bunch of couples that frequented these tours. I started
picturing six couples, enjoying a Mongolian sunset … and then little old me. Just off to the side, enjoying it on my own.
When I arrived in Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia, and met the rest ofthe tour, I was both surprised and thrilled to realise that, of the ten people on tour, there was only one pair. Everybody else was there on their own. And instead of sitting off to the side like I’d feared, I’d been tent-paired with a lovely young American girl
called Annie. On what other occasions might I have met her if not for this solo trip The decision to travel solo, to not let the fact that I didn’t have a travel companion stop me, was what brought us together.
And that’s the beauty of travelling solo. When I’m alone, I’m more likely to
branch out and talk to the locals and strangers, even if there’s a language barrier. And, in my experience, most people are good people. Start up a conversation, ask
questions, and be curious. Most importantly: don’t be a tourist. Be a traveller.
4 .What does the author say about Mongolia
A .It is hardly accessible. B .It is suitable for solo travel.
C .It is a popular destination. D .It is safer than people think.
5 .Why was the author nervous about the small-group tour
A .She feared being left out. B .She feared being too old to bond.
C .She was unsure of the risks ahead. D .She was unfamiliar with such tours.
6 .What is the author’s purpose in mentioning Annie
A .To illustrate a benefit of solo travel. B .To show the friendliness of the small-group.
C .To stress the growing popularity of solo travel. D .To explain the importance of cooperation in travel.
7 .According to the author, what is most attractive about solo travel
A .The thrill of self-discovery. B .The freedom of being alone.
C.The authentic engagement with others. D.The improvement of conversation skills.

Everyone feels uncomfortable during heat waves, but it’s important to know when that discomfort might become something more serious. Extreme temperatures can pose significant health risks and worsen existing conditions, especially for
vulnerable (易受伤害的) groups.
So, who is most at risk According to Matthew Strehlow, a professor at
Stanford University, the most vulnerable are those who struggle to access cool
environments or enough water. This includes older adults, infants, and people with chronic medical conditions. Additionally, extreme heat can lead to pregnancy
complications, such as preterm birth (早产). Those who spend a lot of time outside, like athletes and outdoor workers, also face high risks.
Knowing the symptoms to look out for can help you take timely action. Dry
mouth or hot skin are often the first signs to appear. However, you should be more
concerned about decreased activity, sleepiness, or any changes in a person’s mental
status. “If someone becomes less interactive or stops talking normally, you should get
them to an emergency department right away,” says Strehlow.
If you catch the symptoms early, you can help the person cool down through a process called evaporative cooling. This involves wiping them with a cool, damp
cloth or using a spray bottle to mist them with water. As the water evaporates, it
quickly lowers their body temperature. Of course, the most important first step is to move the person out of the heat into the shade or indoors.
Prevention is always better than cure. During heat waves, it is essential to stay hydrated even if you don’t feel thirsty. Experts suggest wearing light clothing and
avoiding direct sunlight during the hottest hours, usually between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. Today, heat-related illness has become the leading climate-related cause of health
issues. Therefore, when a heat wave hits, take the time to check in on your family and neighbors to ensure they stay safe.
8 .What is a critical warning sign of heatstroke
A .Having hot and dry skin.
B .Lacking mental alertness.
C .Feeling a bit thirsty and dry.
D .Preferring to sleep in the shade.
9 .What does the underlined word“evaporative”mean
A .About keeping food fresh.
B .About making water dirty.
C .About turning water into gas.
D .About moving objects quickly.
10 .What does the author imply in the last paragraph
A .Personal safety is the only priority.
B .Thirst is the best guide for hydration.
C .People should stay indoors all day long.
D .Heat waves require a community-wide response.
11 .What is the best title for the text
A .The Rising Temperatures in the U.S.
B .The Science Behind Evaporative Cooling.
C .How to Help Your Neighbors in Summer.
D .Recognizing and Managing Heat-related Risks.

While many artists fear AI’s growing role in creative fields, Michelle Lee, a
Canadian-Chinese artist, sees it as a new way of re-imagining art. Through her robot series DOUG, Lee transforms technical errors and unpredictable machine behavior into collaborative (合作的) artistry, proving that AI can enhance rather than replace human creativity.
Lee’s journey began in 2015 with DOUG 1, a robot designed to copy her
brushstrokes. Instead of perfect copies, its shaky lines and uneven marks became
unique features. “Poeticizing error taught me that mistakes can spark new ideas,” she says. In 2017, DOUG 2 was trained on Lee’s past artworks to generate original
paintings. At a London exhibit, Lee co-signed pieces as “Lee-DOUG 2,” symbolizing joint authorship.
As the technology evolved, DOUG 3 used street camera data to turn city
rhythms into dynamic pictures. By 2024, DOUG 4 could even translate Lee’s
brainwaves into brushstrokes. Relaxed states produced flowing patterns, while
focused moments created sharp lines. At a recent international conference, the robotic arms successfully painted the Swiss Alps using her brain activity and Chinese ink.
Albert Ho, an architect who studies human-machine interactions, sees Lee’s
work as offering a different story. “We often get stuck in the mindset ofAI competing with humans,” he says. “AI is often characterized as an enemy — something that can replace us or even become destructive. In Lee’s works, it’s no longer about
competition, but co-production.”
As generative Al raises concerns about stolen artwork, Lee said, “Artificial
intelligence relies on human data, shaped by human preference, and it impacts human experiences in turn. Behind these technologies, there’s a lot of work and stuff that
goes into making them. Art is a place where we can look into and show who’s really
in charge.”
12 .What is the main focus of the text
A .Impact of generative Al on art.
B .Development of Al art creativity.
C .Cooperation of human and Al in art.
D .Relationship between artists and robots.
13 .What did Lee gain from DOUG 1
A .Its errors influenced her choice of art sources.
B .Its movements inspired her enthusiasm for art.
C .Its copies changed her way to train later robots.
D .Its outcomes transformed her view of the robots’ role.
14 .What is Albert Ho’s attitude towards Lee’s work
A .He views AI as a potential enemy.
B .He suggests artists should fear AI.
C .He appreciates its collaborative nature.
D .He worries about human-machine competition.
15 .What does Lee’s words convey in the last paragraph
A .AI is a preferred partner.
B .Al remains human-driven.
C .Al works as a reliable tool.
D .Al is essential for future art.

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Have you ever thought that taking short breaks during a walk could actually help you burn more calories
Scientists have discovered that short bursts of activity can burn more energy
than continuous exercise. For example, several groups of quick walks or stair climbs
for just 10 to 30 seconds use 20% to 60% more energy than walking nonstop for the same distance. 16 Similar to a car using more fuel when starting a journey, our body works harder at the beginning of any movement. This is because it needs to
warm up our muscles and get into a rhythm. These short bursts of activity might not last long, but they require a lot of energy.
17 As someone who sits most of the day, I used to think exercise meant hours at the gym. But when I tried replacing my afternoon coffee breaks with three
90-second stair climbs, something surprising happened. 18 My body adjusted to the activity, and what once felt like a struggle gradually turned into a manageable routine. As this happened, I unexpectedly felt more focused and energized throughout the day. These “exercise snacks” fit well into my busy schedule, proving that working out doesn’t require large blocks of time.
19 Every stair climb or short walk wakes up the body. Health isn’t built in a day at the gym—it’s made through small, consistent actions. Simply replace one of your usual sitting breaks with just a single minute of walking, and you’ll be amazed at how small actions can reshape your physical vitality. 20
A .Now I see fitness differently.
B .Every step counts, no matter how short it is!
C .This finding matches perfectly with my own experience.
D .This happens because the body needs extra energy to start moving.
E .Actually, short exercise breaks can increase your energy consumption.
F .At first, even 20 seconds left me breathless, but over time, it became easier.
G .The more time and effort you put into exercise, the more calories you will burn.

Torrie Norwood was a girl student at Lakewood High School, which offered a life-saving course. Torrie was very interested and she was registered at the class.
Instructor Erika Miller was a long-time and skilled teacher, who taught basic life support, CPR (心肺复苏), along with Heartsaver First Aid. Erika stressed that
life-saving skills were very important. To save a person’s life, you must perform CPR within 4-6 minutes. “You never know when an emergency will occur,” Erika said.
“But you know what you should do at a crucial moment.” When Torrie finished the course last Friday, she was glad to earn her certification.
The next day Torrie and her three classmates had just spent a typical Saturday night out when they decided to head home. As they drove back to their hometown of St. Petersburg, Florida, a speeding pickup truck crashed into them. Then the
screaming started. “It’s gonna blow!” yelled the gathering crowd as the pickup truck went up in smoke.
Torrie’s door wouldn’t open, but her window had been knocked out during the crash, so she was forced to climb through her window to get out. Two of her
classmates, both unhurt, were also able to free themselves from the vehicle.
But when Torrie turned around, she didn’t see Simmons running with them.
Torrie realized that her friend Simmons was still in the car. Torrie had to run back to the car as fast as she could. She was still in there—unresponsive in the back seat.
There was glass and blood everywhere. Things didn’t look good.
Simmons had hit her head on a rear passenger window. The great force resulted in life-threatening injuries. After pulling Simmons out from the car quickly, Torrie
gently laid her on the ground and checked her vital signs, unable to detect a pulse (脉搏).

47 . Instead of freezing in fear, Torrie kept calm. She remembered the life-saving course she had just completed and the skills she had learned. With a steady hand, she began chest
compressions, counting aloud. Her training kicked in, and she was able to perform CPR
efficiently, her mind focused on the task at hand. The crowd watched silently, leaving only the
sound of her voice and the desperate hope that she could save her friend's life. Torrie’s actions
were a testament to her courage and the effectiveness of the training she had received. She
continued the CPR as the seconds ticked by, until the sound of sirens in the distance signaled the arrival of emergency services.
A few weeks later, Simmons recovered in the hospital. The doctors had told her that she was extremely fortunate to have survived the accident, and to have a friend like Torrie who knew exactly what to do in such a critical situation. The impact of the crash had been severe, and
without Torrie’s immediate response, the outcome could have been tragic. As Simmons lay in her hospital bed, she thought about the events of that fateful night and the life-saving skills that had
been so recently taught to her friend. She was grateful not only for Torrie’s quick thinking and
bravery but also for the foresight of the school to offer such a vital course. The incident made
everyone involved realize the importance of learning life-saving courses positively.
