This is depressing: people are using AI to solve escape room puzzles and cheat at trivia
nights. It’s like going into a corn maze (迷宫) and just wanting a straight line to the end. Surely, that is the definition of wrecking your own fun.
I’m puzzled how anyone could enjoy using a large language model (LLM) to sound
“clever” or participate in any AI-hacked hobby. It doesn’t matter much, I suppose — this isn’t AI as existential threat. But it matters for fun — let the bots take our work, but not our joy! I wouldn’t tell anyone how to enjoy themselves — I’m no expert on fun, and would definitely end up
sounding like an AI-generated Substack if I did (hug a tree, speak to a stranger, laugh with loved ones). But I have been thinking what makes me feel most vividly alive and I’m aiming to do more of it — my individual fightback against the “impersonal universal”.
The first one is singing. I expect AI to search through musical classics to compose great
songs, but it can’t produce the entertainment of my small choir composed of very particular
humans. We’re not the most polished singers, but listening to one another and trying to blend (融合) our voices gives me an intense sense of connection. Occasionally, everything comes together and we produce a few seconds of surprising beauty. When it doesn’t, it’s fun anyway.
I also get a fair amount of joy from people — I say this as a lifelong introvert When I try to identify my most reliable source of pleasure, it’s wandering round a strange city
looking at its inhabitants. What are people wearing, eating, talking about; what annoys them; what kind of dogs do they have It’s an all-you-can-eat human buffet.
That’s the secret for me: AI can explain what we are as a whole, but it blends all our
colours to a muddy brown; it can’t capture the joy of the absolutely particular.
4 .What does the underlined word “wrecking” in the first paragraph mean
A .Ruining. B .Creating. C .Enjoying. D .Spreading
5 .Which of the following would the author disapprove of
A .Following AI-generated suggestions. B .Encouraging others to enjoy themselves.
C .Taking advantage of AI in the workplace. D .Making use of AI in recreational activities.
6 .What is the problem of AI-generated music
A .It is impersonal. B .It is unoriginal. C .It is serious. D .It is complex.
7 .What does the author imply in the last paragraph
A .AI is less intelligent than humans. B .True joy lies in individual uniqueness.
C .Particularity is the key to improving AI. D .The whole is more than the sum ofits parts.
C
You might have heard of the placebo effect. It describes how people feel better even when the pill they take isjust a “sugar pill” with no medicine. This phenomenon highlights the strong connection between the mind and the body. However, scientists have also identified its opposite:
the “nocebo effect.” This occurs when people expect a treatment to have negative results, and then they actually start to experience those symptoms.
A classic study provides a clear example. Researchers looked at men taking a new drug for heart disease. One group was specifically warned that “stomach upset” was a potential side effect, while the other group received no such warning. The results were surprising. The men who were warned reported the symptom at much higher rates than those who were not. Their concern alone was enough to produce the very problem they had been cautioned about.
In recent years, the power of the nocebo effect has been magnified by social media.
Australian researchers found a direct link among participants during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The more scary stories of vaccine side effects people read on platforms like Facebook and Twitter, the more severe their own symptoms became after vaccination. This suggests that repeated
exposure to negative stories can shape not only our perception but also our actual physical feelings.
Fortunately, the “cure” for the nocebo effect is quite simple: step away from the keyboard.
By limiting exposure to alarmist (骇人的) stories and focusing instead on factual information
from trusted doctors, individuals can reduce the chance of developing imagined side effects. In an age where digital stories spread instantly, being mindful of what we consume is essential to our
well-being. Recognizing the nocebo effect reminds us that sometimes the most powerful medicine is simply a calm and informed mind.
8 .What can be inferred about the nocebo effect
A .It helps the sick people avoid side effects.
B .It reflects how the mind affects the body.
C .It is a newly identified psychological disorder.
D .It occurs only in the context of taking medicine.
9 .What does the heart disease drug study demonstrate
A .Expectations can lead to physical discomfort.
B .Side effects are unavoidable for most patients.
C .Patients should be informed about side effects.
D .New drugs often carry some unexpected risks.
10 .What does the underlined word “magnified” in paragraph 3 mean
A .Confirmed. B .Strengthened.
C .Weakened. D .Presented
11 .What is the author’s advice for well-being
A .Avoid using social media platforms entirely.
B .Consult doctors as frequently as possible.
C .Focus only on positive medical outcomes.
D .Engage with digital content in a mindful way.

The Palace Museum in Beijing is embracing digital innovation to preserve and share its rich cultural heritage. By blending ancient traditions with advanced technologies, the museum is
building an intelligent and open “digital Palace Museum” system to ensure the lasting transmission of its treasures.
The museum manages more than 1.95 million cultural relics (文物). To ensure their
permanent preservation, it has made an unprecedented effort to capture digital images and 3D
data. To date, the museum has collected digital data on 1.07 million artifacts, accounting for more than 53 percent of its total collection. Meanwhile, it promotes public access to these resources.
The digital gallery on its website has made images of 150,000 artifacts available to the public, transforming its database from an internal tool into a public resource.
Beyond simple images, the museum has explored the use of virtual reality (VR) and other technologies to provide immersive experiences. Drawing on its rich 3D data, the museum has
developed VR programs focused on iconic spaces like the Hall of Mental Cultivation. Visitors can “enter” these spaces through VR headsets for interactive exploration. This innovative approach
allows the public to connect with history in a deeply personal and engaging manner.
To reach a wider audience, the museum also operates accounts on major social media
platforms, with a combined following of over 40 million. It has released various short videos and interactive podcasts to present traditional culture in innovative ways. Additionally, more than 10 mobile apps have been developed. For instance, the “Daily Palace Museum” app introduces one artifact each day, bringing the beauty of heritage into everyday life.
For over two decades, the Palace Museum has been at the forefront of using technology to revitalize (使恢复生机) cultural heritage. Looking ahead, it will continue to strengthen digital
innovation. The museum is not only protecting its collection but also serving as a key window through which the world can better understand Chinese civilization.
12 .What can be inferred about the database from paragraph 2
A .It focuses only on 3D data.
B .It has covered all cultural relics.
C .It is increasingly open to the public.
D .It mainly serves the museum’s staff.
13 .How does VR technology benefit the museum’s visitors
A .By helping them avoid long queues for tickets.
B .By replacing the need for physical museum visits.
C .By allowing them to get access to iconic historical places.
D .By providing immersive and interactive historical connections.
14 .What is the intended effect of the museum’s apps
A .To teach people how to use digital devices.
B .To encourage people to buy more souvenirs.
C .To integrate cultural beauty into our daily life.
D .To increase the museum’s social media followers.
15 .What is the best title of the text
A .The History of the Palace Museum
B .The Importance of Protecting Ancient Relics
C .Digital Innovation: Breathing Life into Heritage
D .Virtual Reality: The Future of Chinese Museums

Small Kindnesses on Campus
Campus life is filled with busy classes, endless assignments and tight schedules, which
often make us focus only on our own goals. 16 However, those small, unexpected acts of kindness can light up our days and build a warm community.
A simple smile or a greeting can make a big difference. When you pass a classmate in the hallway, a warm “Good morning” or a friendly smile doesn’t take much effort, but it can cheer
someone up who is feeling down. 17 It helps break the ice between strangers and makes our campus feel like a home.
Lending a helping hand is another way to spread kindness. For example, if you see a
classmate struggling with heavy books, offer to carry some. If someone misses a class, share your notes with them willingly. ____18____ These small actions show that you care and can help
others get through difficult moments.
Being patient and understanding also matters a lot. Everyone has bad days, and sometimes we may be slow to respond or make mistakes. 19 Instead of complaining or criticizing, give them a little patience and support. This kindness not only helps others but also makes you a more empathetic person.
20 Small kindnesses don’t require much time or money, but they have the power
to connect people, reduce stress and make our campus a better place. Let’s keep spreading kindness and make every day on campus meaningful and warm.
A .Kindness is not about doing big things.
B .Everyone needs a little kindness in their lives.
C .Such small favors can strengthen our friendship.
D .It’s easy to forget to care about others around us.
E .We should learn to put ourselves in others’ shoes.
F .Helping others is a good way to improve our own confidence.
G .A kind word can go a long way in brightening someone’s mood.

Every day after school, Lucas and Noah pressed their noses against Mr. Henderson’s shop window. They stared at the red bicycle that stood proudly in the center of the display. For months, they had saved every spare coin, yet the price still seemed far beyond their reach.
When the first snow of winter covered their town, the brothers saw an opportunity. They grabbed their shovels (铲子), determined to turn the snowfall into savings through hard work.
They started in their own neighborhood. But many residents had already cleared their walkways, and those who hadn’t only offered a few coins for short paths. After several tiring hours, they had earned just seven dollars — far less than they hoped.
Refusing to give up, they headed to Maple Street, where the houses were bigger and the
driveways deeper in snow. Noah knocked on the door of a beautiful Victorian house. Mrs.
Williams answered, looking like she was in a hurry. When Noah asked if she needed her driveway shoveled, she agreed at once. She took a twenty-dollar bill from her purse and placed it into
Noah’s hand.
“I have to rush out,” she said with an encouraging smile. “I’ll leave it in your capable hands.”
The boys stared at the bill, amazed. Twenty dollars — more than they had made the entire
day! Laughing in disbelief, they set to work with fresh energy. The initial excitement carried them through the first hour of work. But as the afternoon darkened and the temperature dropped, the
work became harder. Their hands grew numb (麻木) ,their muscles ached, and the long driveway seemed endless.
Halfway through, Lucas threw down his shovel in frustration (沮丧). “Let’s just go. She’ll never know we didn’t finish.”

actually start to experience those symptoms.
A classic study provides a clear example. Researchers looked at men taking a new drug for heart disease. One group was specifically warned that “stomach upset” was
a potential side effect, while the other group received no such warning. The results were
surprising. The men who were warned reported the symptom at much higher rates than those who were not. Their concern alone was enough to produce the very problem they had been cautioned
about.
In recent years, the power of the nocebo effect has been magnified by social media. Australian researchers found a direct link among participants during the
COVID-19 pandemic. The more scary stories of vaccine side effects people read on platforms like Facebook and Twitter, the more severe their own symptoms became after vaccination.
根据最后一段“By limiting exposure to alarmist (骇人的) stories and focusing instead on factual information from trusted doctors, individuals can reduce the chance of
developing imagined side effects. In an age where digital stories spread instantly, being mindful of what we consume is essential to our well-being.

Drawing on its rich 3D data, the museum has developed VR
programs focused on iconic spaces like the Hall of Mental Cultivation. Visitors can “enter” these spaces through VR headsets for interactive exploration. This innovative approach allows the
public to connect with history in a deeply personal and engaging manner.
For instance, the “Daily Palace Museum” app introduces one
artifact each day, bringing the beauty of heritage into everyday life.

46 .Should the Badminton Club Set Entry Requirements?
Good morning, everyone.
Campus clubs are always warm places where we share our passions and make like-minded friends. When it comes to the strict entry rules for new members, I’m worried they will greatly

The club should lower entry barriers to welcome more enthusiasts. By launching “senior
leads junior” pairing programs and regular basic training camps, beginners can gradually improve their skills. This not only helps new members grow quickly but also expands the club’s campus
influence.
Thank you for listening!

lesson about honesty would stay with them long after the snow melted.
