Lila Marquez gently places a tiny wild goose with an injured wing into a soft cotton box. “Take it easy, little Dewdrop,” she whispers. For the past eight years, the retired biology teacher’s balcony in Buenos Aires has been a safe shelter for injured or abandoned wild geese. With her careful care, more than 200 geese have regained strength and returned to the nearby wetlands.
Lila’s journey with wild geese began in 2015, two years after her husband
passed away. She felt lost and lonely until one rainy afternoon, when she found a
weak goose trembling under a tree — its wing broken by a stray cat. “I couldn’t leave
it there,” Lila recalls. She named the goose Dewdrop and spent weeks nursing it back to health. As Dewdrop grew stronger, Lila found joy she hadn’t felt in years.
Soon, neighbors and passersby started bringing her injured wild geese — some with broken legs, others weakened by pollution or hunger. Lila dug into her old
biology textbooks and searched online for goose care tips. A local vet even offered free advice to help her improve her nursing skills. Last year, a student posted a video of Lila feeding the geese on Instagram, and it quickly went viral with over 800,000 views. People from nearby areas began donating goose feed and medical supplies.
Yet the wild geese still face great plight in the city. The wetlands they depend on are shrinking (缩小) due to urban construction; stray animals and water pollution pose constant risks. But Lila never loses hope. She has started a small community
group to plant native water plants and advocate for wetland protection. “Caring for these geese isn’t just about saving them,” she says. “It’s about reminding people that we share this city with all living things.”
Every time a healed goose flies off to the wetlands, Lila stands on her balcony, watching proudly. For her, these geese are more than just rescued creatures — they are symbols of comfort, hope, and the power of small acts of kindness.
4 .What can we learn about Dewdrop from the text
A .It stayed with Lila for eight years.

Do light food products really help you If you believe the marketing words
printed on their packaging — light or reduced-calorie (卡路里) food products offer you the same enjoyment, but with fewer calories — it seems like a no-brainer, right
In order for a product to be light, present rules in the UK say that it must be at least 30% lower in one typical aspect, for example, calories or fat, than the regular product in the same line.
Is the taste really as similar as they say It often is, and that’s just the problem. You can’t lower the sugar or fat content without changing the product’s composition (成分) or taste. To copy the original taste as closely as possible, producers depend on synthetic additives (合成添加剂) to improve taste and change the texture (口感) of their reduced-calorie products. Key ingredients (成分) like eggs or butter are reduced and replaced with synthetic additives. To make up for the lack of texture, different
kinds of additives are added to give the feeling offat and sugar. You often end up with very long ingredient lists. Imagine a chocolate cake with 10 ingredients on the package; it is generally not a good sign.
Light food products are not good for our health. Several studies have shown that products sold as light food can still affect blood sugar levels and in the long term
increase the risk of weight gain and heart problems. Another concern with light food products is their effect on metabolism (新陈代谢). It’s been shown that they can trick the brain, change gut flora (肠道菌群) and eventually lead to weight gain over time, rather than the promised weight loss.
Not all reduced-calorie products are the same. For example, low sodium (钠) products can be a good choice as part of a balanced diet. The key is to watch out for the descriptions and avoid products with too many synthetic additives.
8 .Which of the following can be regarded as a light food product
A .Food low in calories. B .Food with good taste.
C .Food rich in nutrition. D .Food with various ingredients.
9 .What does “the problem” in paragraph 3 refer to
A .Sudden change of original taste. B .Worsening of texture.
C .Heavy use of synthetic additives. D .Increasing of sugar.
10 .What may eating light food products lead to in the long term
A .Lower blood sugar level. B .Brain diseases.
C .Better body shape. D .Weight gain.
11 .What can be a suitable title for the text
A .Does light food cheer you up B .Is light food “light”
C .How does light food improve health D .How is light food different
D
People often grumble that plastics are too durable. Water bottles, shopping bags, and other trash litter the planet because plastics are everywhere and don’t break down easily. But some plastic materials change over time. They crack and melt into sludge, all of which creates huge headaches for institutions, such as museums, trying to
preserve culturally important objects.
Until recently, museums only have to worry about traditional materials. “We
know how to approach the restoration of paintings, books, and materials like wood, metals, and glass,” says Anna Laganà, a research specialist at the Getty Conservation Institute. “But for plastics, our knowledge is still limited.” Tonkin, now a doctoral
researcher in fashion conservation at Nottingham Trent University, agrees. “We’re now trying to figure out how to conserve plastics,” she says.
Nearly every museum in the world has plastic items, and even well-cared-for objects can fall apart alarmingly quickly. Museums are doing everything they can to
save culturally important items from similar fates. But preservation of plastics will likely get harder. Old objects continue to decline. Worse, biodegradable plastics, designed to fall apart easily, are increasingly common.
We now live in an age of plastic, and what we decide to collect today, and what we decide to preserve, will have a strong impact on how we’ll be seen in the future. Future archaeologists looking at what’s left from the 21st century will probably find lots of poisonous waste, along with plenty of plastic trash. But if museum
preservation efforts succeed, maybe those scholars will also see that plastic items today can be culturally meaningful – and even cherished.
12 .What are two totally different features of plastics mentioned in Paragraph 1
A .Popular but rarely recycled. B .Harmless to nature but harmful to humans.
C .Easy to make but hard to clean. D .Some long-lasting but others easy-to-degrade.
13 .What can we infer from Anna Laganà and Tonkin’s words
A .Museums lack expertise in plastic preservation.
B .Traditional restoration makes plastic conservation needless.
C .Plastic conservation in fashion is completely solved.
D .The Getty Institute leads plastic preservation research.
14 .What is the main role of Paragraph 3
A .Explain why plastic preservation is harder than traditional ones.
B .List ways museums protect plastic cultural objects.
C .Show plastic items are common in global museums.
D .Stress the growing challenges of plastic preservation.
15 .Where can this passage be found
A .In a travel brochure. B .In a fashion magazine.
C .In a science report. D .In a science fiction book.
第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 3 分,满分 15 分)
Most of us avoid being beginners. It can feel uncomfortable and embarrassing
— we naturally prefer to feel capable and in control. 16 By choosing to start something new, you open yourself up to a world of unexpected benefits.
First and foremost, beginning again builds your resilience (韧性). When you’re a beginner, you make lots of mistakes. 17 This can be frustrating, but each
time you rise, retry, and advance slightly, you build resilience to meet challenges.
18 As an adult, you might get used to being the “expert” or the one who knows the answers. But stepping into a beginner’s role can change this situation.
Being a beginner forces you to accept that you don’t know everything, which reminds you that learning is a continuous journey and that everyone, no matter their age or
experience, can learn from others.
Moreover, starting as a beginner also sparks creativity. When learning
something new, you often come across new problems and have to find different ways to solve them. This process of trying, failing, and trying again from different angles stimulates your brain, enhancing your problem-solving skills. 19
Finally, remember the feeling when you first successfully understood a complex idea in a new language 20 It boosts your confidence and reminds you of
your own potential.
So the next time you feel a little uncomfortable about being a beginner,
remember that it’s not a sign of weakness, but an opportunity for growth. Embrace the awkwardness of being a beginner. You might discover a brand new version of
yourself.
A .In doing so, it teaches you to think outside the box.
B .You might hit the wrong notes, or trip over your own feet.
C .Yet, what if this very discomfort holds hidden advantages
D .You have to ask questions, listen to others, and accept help.
E .Additionally, being a beginner encourages open-mindedness.
F .This newly-learned language also introduces you to a new culture.
G .That feeling of achieving something new is extremely worthwhile.

47 .阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Oh no!” I shouted as I searched through my dance bag. My dance shoes were
nowhere to be found. For a moment, I could hardly hide a smile — finally, an excuse not to go to the tiring practice! However, Mom drove straight to the studio (练功房). “Ms. Linda keeps some spare dance shoes,” she reminded gently. I took a deep breath, walked in unwillingly and fished out a pair.
“Only four weeks remain before the holiday performance,” Ms. Linda told the class. “We must focus and work hard.” My heart dropped, and the memory of last
year’s stage failure flashed back — I was unable to move and breathe properly under
bright lights. That night, I begged Mom to let me quit. Surprisingly, she didn’t force me to keep going. Instead, she said quietly, “It’s your decision, Kami. But have you thought about your partner Can she make it without you ”
“She won’t mind,” I said, “She probably doesn’t even know my name.”
The next Friday, Mom picked me up from school. As we drove away, she asked if I wanted to attend the dance class. “No,” I whispered, “Not today.” “Okay,” Mom nodded understandingly. I breathed easy, sure that I had made the right choice,
thinking no one would notice one absent dancer in the crowded studio.
On Saturday, during a shopping trip, I unexpectedly ran into my dance partner at checkout. “Hi, Kami!” she called cheerfully. I stood still, my face red, and realized I didn’t even know her name until she introduced herself as Sylvia. Then her smile
disappeared. “I missed you yesterday. Honestly, I’m frightened about the show. My grandma is flying in just to watch, and I fear that I’ll mess up our paired moves.”
What she said struck me. I knew I was not the only one who was afraid all the time. Dance was not only my hard thing; it was our common fight.

Spotting Sylvia’s grandmother smiling in the front row, I realized that true success wasn’t about avoiding fear, but sharing the challenge with a friend.
