Immersive Van Gogh Exhibition Opens in Singapore What is the exhibition about
Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience is a large-scale digital art exhibition that brings the Post-Impressionist master’s works to life through projections, sound and interactive technology. It returns to Singapore with a notable new feature.
What is the key new feature
A dedicated AI Studio has been added. Visitors can type a text prompt, such as “sunflowers under a starry sky,” and an artificial intelligence algorithm will instantly generate a unique digital image in Van Gogh’s distinctive style of brushstrokes and colors. This image can then be
projected alongside the artist’s classic works. “It’s about participation, not just observation,” notes a curator (策展人).
What are the main sections of the experience
·Digital Galleries: Walk through rooms surrounded by animated projections of paintings like The Starry Night and Sunflowers.
·AI Studio: Create and display your own AI-generated Van Gogh-style artwork.
·VR Journey: Use virtual reality headsets to explore the landscapes of Arles, France that inspired Van Gogh. Please note: The VR section has a separate queue and may require additional waiting time.
What are the dates and prices
·Dates & Venue: 15 November 2025-15 May 2026, Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre.

Iowa has long been known as the heartland of farming in the U. S. But a changing climate and environment are washing away soil and weakening its health. However, most family farmers here, who have owned and worked the land for generations, recognize soil health is crucial in
reducing the worst effects of climate change.
Wendy Johnson left Iowa to pursue a career in fashion in California in 2002. But when her grandmother passed away, Wendy began thinking about the legacy (家业) of the family farm: She
didn’t want to see all the hard work her grandparents and parents put into the land here lost.
Thus, in 2010, Wendy returned and began co-managing the family farm, Center View
Farm, with her father. Center View Farm was already an early adopter of no-till (免耕) farming
then. Tilling the soil actually degrades soil health. Experts estimate the planet loses billions of tons of rich soil each year. This would be a disaster for the world’s food systems unless regenerative
agricultural practices, which help fight climate change and grow food while restoring nature, are adopted. For example, in no-till farming, new seeds are planted directly into the residue (残留) of previous crops.
But Wendy wanted to do more. Since she moved back, Wendy has been working with
Practical Farmers of Iowa (PFI), a farmer-led nonprofit, to innovate the way her family farms. She managed to plant various cover crops to preserve the richness of the soil. She also attended the
field days hosted by PFI that help connect farmers and enable them to learn from each other’s
innovations. At one PFI field day, she learned about organic animal raising. Now, while Center
View Farm continues to provide the main income stream for her parents, Wendy started Jóia Food & Fiber Farm, a certified organic farm, to test other restorative practices.
4 .What motivated Wendy to return to Iowa
A .Her love of her grandmother.
B .Her promise to farm with her father.
C .Her dream of being a fashion designer.
D .Her desire to carry on her family’s work.
5 .Why is Center View Farm mentioned in paragraph 3
A .To present a solution to low crop yields.
B .To provide a role model for local farmers.
C .To introduce a novel way to improve the soil.
D .To stress the significance of smart agriculture.
6 .What role did Wendy play in the PFI field days
A .An enthusiastic participant.
B .A generous sponsor.
C .A knowledgeable instructor.
D .A responsible organizer.
7 .What does Wendy’s practice indicate
A .Cover crops matter a lot.
B .Organic change occurs naturally.
C .Land is the lasting legacy.
D .Sustainable farming is climate action.

Historically, the worker who worked the most hours was widely seen as an organization’s
most valuable employee. But that is no longer true: as AI promises to transform how we work, and the four-day-workweek movement gains steam, it is time to admit once and for all that working
more does not make you more productive.
In fact, many workers could dutifully keep themselves busy for an entire day without doing anything of real value, instead answering pointless emails and attending unnecessary meetings.
Meanwhile, many are struggling under the unsustainable consequences of applying an
industrial-era measure of productivity — namely, dividing output by hours — to our modern
knowledge economy. As a result, workers are under constant pressure to relinquish their rightfully earned time to prove their commitment.
Those who finish their tasks more quickly are typically rewarded with more work to fill the hours they’ve saved, in what is sometimes referred to as “performance punishment.” A co-worker who works through evenings, weekends, or lunch breaks to complete the same workload,
meanwhile, is often more likely to be praised or even promoted for their perceived commitment. This dynamic ultimately creates more pressure to look busy than to deliver value, which is getting in the way of actually getting work done and holding back organizational productivity while
wearing down workers’ well-being.
So it is time for us to be smarter about how we work. That is ultimately what the
four-day-workweek movement seeks to inspire. Instead of just giving everyone an extra vacation day each week, when positioned as a performance-based motivator, the four-day workweek
becomes a wake-up call to refocus our time and energy at work on the things that really matter to the business.
In today’s knowledge economy and tomorrow’s AI reality, the most successful individuals,
organizations, and nations won’t be those that work the most hours, but those that are the most effective at making their working hours count.
8 .How does the author introduce the topic
A .By listing AI-driven changes in work.
B .By challenging the hours-productivity link.
C .By describing employee-centered practices.
D .By advocating a short-time working pattern.
9 .What does the underlined word “relinquish” in paragraph 2 mean
A .Set aside. B .Count on.
C .Give up. D .Care about.
10 .What weakens organizational effectiveness according to paragraph 3
A .Job burnout.
B .Performative busyness.
C .Unfair punishment.
D .Unnoticed commitment.
11 .What does the author think of the four-day workweek
A .A reward for efficiency at work.
B .A wake-up call to stay competitive.
C .A push to think smarter about work.
D .A preparation for the uncertain future.

Over the last 1,400 years, populations ofthe Yangtze finless porpoise have dramatically
declined in China. But intensive surveys of its range only span the last couple of decades, leaving lots of gaps in scientists’ knowledge of the species. In a creative blend of art and science, a new study uses historical poetry to chart the critically endangered animal’s population across the river it calls home.
The finless porpoises once lived throughout the entire Yangtze River, which stretches from the Tibetan Plateau to the East China Sea. Now, the only known freshwater porpoise in the world has fewer than 1,800 individuals left in the wild.
The research team combed through databases of Chinese poetry to find references to the
porpoise and map its past distribution. They found 724 poems that mentioned the animal, of which half noted where the porpoises were observed. Their findings were published in Current Biology.
“Having access to past data allows us to detect when declines began and correlate those
changes with potential threats like habitat destruction, climate change, overhunting, disease or the introduction of invasive species,” says lead author Zhang Yaoyao, an ecologist at the Chinese
Academy of Sciences.
The poems suggest the porpoise’s range has decreased by 65% since the Tang dynasty.
Most of that decline happened in the river’s tributaries and lakes, where the animal’s range has
decreased by 91%. While the population decrease was mostly gradual, the sharpest decline has
occurred over the past 100 years. That sudden drop aligns with human activities on the river,
especially dam construction in the 1950s that blocked off the porpoise's movement to and from the river's main channel.
The work highlights the connection between culture and science. “Poems are actually
ancient citizen science, and many Chinese poets were ‘well-educated intellectuals’,” says Zhang. “These data are not perfect...But they do have a lot of information if you use them correctly.” This approach has potential for uncovering the pasts of other endangered species as well. Previously,
scholars have used medieval and ancient texts to understand things like volcanic eruptions, auroras and unusual whales.
12 .What challenge do scientists face in their research about the porpoise
A .Its population has dropped off dramatically.
B .Locating its habitats is increasingly difficult.
C .The long-term historical data are insufficient.
D .Its population is hard to calculate precisely.
13 .What mainly contributed to the dramatic fall of the porpoise’s populations
A .Poor resistance to diseases. B .Climate changes over time.
C .Human impacts on its habitats. D .Competition with other species.
14 .Why does the author mention “volcanic eruptions” in the last paragraph
A .To show major threats to endangered wildlife.
B .To introduce challenges in ecological research.
C .To reveal the wisdom of ancient Chinese poets.
D .To prove the value of ancient texts in research.
15 .What can be a suitable title for the text
A .Historical Poems: Records of Ancient Chinese Wildlife
B .citizen Science: A New Approach to Protecting Animals
C .The Yangtze Finless Porpoise: A Critically Endangered Species
D .Ancient Poetry: A Creative Way to Study Endangered Porpoise

It’s easy to give in to the winter hibernation (冬眠) urge — but countless studies have
shown that outdoors activity is one of the best ways to reduce your risk of anxiety, depression and
seasonal affective disorder (SAD). 16 Here’s how to make the best use of our natural health service.
Starting small.
“Sometimes getting out and running 5km was like climbing Everest. It would take me all day just to find the energy to get out,” says Alex Staniforth, a mental health campaigner.
17 Try opening a window, sitting by natural light, or bringing nature indoors with
plants. When you’re ready, aim for short, achievable goals like a five-minute walk. You don’t need hours. Aiming for regular activity is key.
18
Mental health and fitness coach Gareth Jones emphasized that good planning and structure are crucial. “If you know you’re struggling with motivation, laying out all your kit — from your socks all the way up to the food you’re going to take — can be helpful,” he says. “ 19
You might want to get out when you get to the front door — but if you have to go and search for your trainers because they’re lost under the stairs somewhere, you may not feel like going out at all.”
Group support.
Social commitments can also act as motivation for people with depression and anxiety.
Having other people around us — whether that’s joining a club or committing to something with a friend — can really help. 20 “People are very quick to post their accomplishments on
social media, but what you don’t see is the build-up,” says Gareth. “It doesn’t matter where people are now in their lives, they’ve had to work to get there. And you’ll get there too.”
A .A clear goal.
B .A structured approach.
C .However, don’t compare yourself to others.
D .A disorganized life can affect your motivation.
E .Therefore, doctors are encouraging people to go outdoors more.
F .But time in nature isn’t the only cure for mental health problems.
G .If this sounds familiar, remember even small steps can bring benefits.

Before sunrise, Beijing parks look ordinary in winter — bare trees, empty benches, a few
early risers. But then, a melody begins, 36 (float) through the air, and suddenly the space is transformed. People gather, strangers become neighbors, 37 art fills the public space
with possibility.
Sun Chubo, a young bamboo flute (长笛) professional from the China National Opera and Dance Drama, has moved the stage from the theater to the masses. The countless 38
(like) both offline and online prove that this is 39 means for art to burst forth with vigorous and dynamic vitality.
“In outdoor performances, I can see everyone’s expressions up close. It is much easier to intuitively (直觉地) sense whether the audience enjoys the piece I am playing and 40 (feel) their emotions directly,” Sun told the Global Times.
When artists move into public spaces to create and perform, art steps out from the closed environment of theaters into the more open settings of public life, making itself truly seen,
41 (hear), and participated in. Meanwhile, authentic audience feedback and the
42 (interact) atmosphere of live events often inspire artists, pushing them to reconsider 43 they express themselves through their work.
From the depths of a bamboo forest to city squares, the venue may change, but the
connection between art and the public 44 (remain) constant. When performers enter

Final exams were approaching, and everyone in school was excited about vacations. We were dreaming of far-off destinations, our minds filled with images of thrilling adventures.
After school on Friday, on my way home, I ran into my best friend. Enthusiastic about the vacations, I asked him about his plans. His eyes twinkled brightly as he replied, “I’m going to visit my grandparents with my parents for a week.”
“Don’t you ever get tired of going to the same place year after year I remember, every year, your family takes 7 to 10 days off to head back to your native village,” I asked, raising an eyebrow in curiosity.
“Oh, not at all! That’s the absolute best time of the year for me! Being with my folks in the village is just amazing.” His face beamed with joy as he continued, "In the village, I get to meet so many wonderful people, and everyone there is so kind and welcoming. Our neighborhood crew is tight! We’re always hanging out together, you know Just running wild, chilling by the lake, or
bouncing between each other’s houses. Honestly, I know what really matters about these village trips. It’s not the cool places we see — it’s spending time with the people I love. That’s the real
treasure of life.”
His words made me recall my own grandparents. I realized I hadn’t seen them for years. But still, it’s a pleasure to be there. … we had big long gardens and a big multi-story house.
The next day, over breakfast, I mustered up the courage and asked my parents, “Can we
visit grandparents this summer after exams ” Dad replied hesitantly, “Oh, that’s unexpected.”
Mom was surprised. “Well, you know it gets really hot there this time of year.” After a short
pause, Dad gave a small sigh and met my hopeful gaze. “However,” he said, “if you perform well in exams, we’ll make the trip.”
For the next six weeks, I threw myself completely into my studies. My mom was amazed by this sudden transformation in me. Soon came the long-awaited exam results.

But when her grandmother passed away, Wendy began thinking
about the legacy (家业) of the family farm: She didn’t want to see all the hard work her
grandparents and parents put into the land here lost.
根据第三段中“Center View Farm was already an early adopter of no - till (免耕)
farming then. Tilling the soil actually degrades soil health. Experts estimate the planet loses
billions of tons of rich soil each year. This would be a disaster for the world’s food systems unless regenerative agricultural practices, which help fight climate change and grow food while restoring nature, are adopted. For example, in no - till farming, new seeds are planted directly into the
residue (残留) of previous crops.
根据第四段中“She also attended the field days hosted by PFI that help connect farmers and enable them to learn from each other’s innovations. At one PFI field day, she learned about organic animal raising. (她还参加了由 PFI 主办的实地日活动,帮助农民建立联系,使 他们能够相互学习彼此的创新。在一次 PFI 实地考察日,她学习了有机动物饲养。)”可知,温迪在 PFI 领域扮演热心参与者的角色。故选 A 项。
Iowa has long been known as the heartland of
farming in the U. S. But a changing climate and environment are washing away soil and
weakening its health. However, most family farmers here, who have owned and worked the land
for generations, recognize soil health is crucial in reducing the worst effects of climate change.

But intensive surveys of its range only span the last couple of
decades, leaving lots of gaps in scientists' knowledge of the species.
That sudden drop aligns with human activities on the river,
especially dam construction in the 1950s that blocked off the porpoise's movement to and from the river's main channel.
This approach has potential for uncovering the pasts of other endangered species as well. Previously, scholars have used medieval and ancient texts to
understand things like volcanic eruptions, auroras and unusual whales.
根据第一段“In a creative blend of art and science, a new study uses historical poetry to chart the critically endangered animal's population across the river it calls home. (在一
项艺术与科学的创造性结合中,一项新的研究利用历史诗歌来描绘这种极度濒危动物在其家园河流中的种群分布)”以及全文内容可知,文章主要介绍了科学家通过研究中国历史诗歌来追踪长江江豚的种群变化,揭示了其数量大幅下降的原因,并强调了这种跨学科研究方法的创新性和潜在应用价值。由此可知,D 项“Ancient Poetry: A Creative Way to Study Endangered Porpoise (古诗:研究濒危江豚的一种创造性方法)”最符合文章主旨,适合作标题。

19 .上文““If you know you’re struggling with motivation, laying out all your kit — from your
socks all the way up to the food you’re going to take — can be helpful,” he says.( “如果你知道自己在缺乏动力方面存在困难,准备好所有你需要的东西——从袜子一直到你要带的食物——可能会有所帮助,”他说。)”强调提前准备好装备的重要性,下文“You might want to get out when you get to the front door — but if you have to go and search for your trainers because
they’re lost under the stairs somewhere, you may not feel like going out at all.” D 选项“A disorganized life can affect your motivation.( 杂乱的生活会影响你的动力。)”
20 .上文“Having other people around us — whether that’s joining a club or committing to
something with a friend — can really help.( 身边有其他人的陪伴——无论是加入一个俱乐部还是与朋友一起参与某项活动——真的很有帮助。)” 下文““People are very quick to post their accomplishments on social media, but what you don’t see is the build-up,” says Gareth.( “人们会在社交媒体上迅速晒出自己的成就,但你看不到的是背后的积累过程,”加雷斯说)”引用加雷斯的话,指出社交媒体上展示的只是别人的成就,看不到背后的付出,不要盲目比较。C 选项“However, don’t compare yourself to others.( 但是,不要拿自己和他人作比较。)”

Dear Mr. Evans,
As a participant in the AI+English project, I have noticed a problem concerning students ’ use of AI, so I am writing to seek your guidance.
Some students have difficulty judging whether the information provided by AI is reliable. For example, they accept answers without checking them, which may lead to misunderstandings and affect their learning. Therefore, I’m writing to seek your professional guidance. It would be
appreciated if you could share some strategies on how to use AI critically. I believe your expertise will be of great value to our project.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours, Li Hua
Dear Mr. Evans,
As a member of the AI+English project group, I am writing to reflect on a troubling issue among us and seek your professional advice.
I have noticed a disturbing trend where many students are losing their ability to think
independently. Instead of exploring language on our own, many tend to accept AI-generated answers without any doubt. This passive habit prevents us from developing our own ideas and truly mastering the language.
Given your expertise, could you possibly offer us a lecture on using AI wisely I would be profoundly grateful for your enlightenment.
Yours,
Li Hua
47 .One possible version:
I rushed home and immediately handed my parents my score card and a note with
“PLEASE.” This time, they instantly agreed. The next day, we set out for our hometown. Every one, be it relatives or neighbors, greeted us with smiles, treating me like their own son. Every day brought new happiness –- digging with Grandpa in the garden, playing games with cousins until sunset, roaming around familiar streets with loved ones and even joining the local kids in their
football matches. The days passed as we had a wonderful time together. Truth be told, everything
was more fun in a big family. When departure day came, my heart ached.
I saw my mom had tears in her eyes when leaving them. She wiped them away and smiled, saying, “I didn’t realize how much I missed the village until now. It’s notjust a place; it’s where
our roots are.” As we drove away, I felt a mix of excitement and nostalgia. I realized that the real adventure wasn’t about exploring far-off places but about reconnecting with family and our
heritage. This trip wasn’t just for me; it was a reminder for all of us that family is the true treasure of life. From then on, visiting Grandma and Grandpa became our annual tradition, a time to
cherish love, laughter, and the simple joys of being together.
