In today’s digital age, many people spend hours scrolling through social media every day.
While these platforms help us stay connected, researchers are increasingly concerned about their
impact on mental health, especially among young people.
试卷第 1页,共 3页
Dr. Sarah Thompson from Stanford University recently published a study following 500
teenagers over two years. The results showed that those who spent more than three hours daily on
social media were twice as likely to report symptoms of anxiety and depression compared to those
who used it for less than one hour.
“Social media creates a culture of comparison,” Dr. Thompson explains. “Teenagers see
carefully curated posts of their friends’ highlight reels—vacations, parties, achievements—and
feel their own lives don’t measure up.”
However, not all social media use is harmful. The study also found that active use—
commenting on friends’ posts, sharing personal updates, and having meaningful conversations—
was linked to better well-being than passive use, which includes mindlessly scrolling and
comparing oneself to others.
So what can parents and teenagers do Experts suggest setting screen time limits, taking
regular “digital detox” breaks, and focusing on real-life interactions. Some schools have started
teaching “digital wellness” classes to help students use social media more mindfully.
“Social media isn’t going away,” says Dr. Thompson. “But we can learn to use it as a tool
rather than letting it control us. The key is balance and awareness.”
14.What does the study by Dr. Thompson show
A.Social media has no effect on teenagers’ mental health. B.Less social media use is linked
to fewer mental health problems.
C.All teenagers who use social media develop anxiety. D.Social media only affects
adults, not teenagers.
15.According to the passage, what is “passive use” of social media
A.Posting personal photos. B.Commenting on friends’ updates.
C.Scrolling without interacting. D.Having online conversations.
16.What does Dr. Thompson suggest about using social media
A.People should completely stop using it. B.People should use it in a balanced way.
C.Only adults should be allowed to use it. D.Schools should ban social media completely.
17.The writer’s main purpose is to ________.
A.criticize social media companies B.explain the effects of social media and offer
solutions

C.encourage teenagers to spend more time online D.describe how to create perfect

Imagine mountains covered with silver water, shining in the spring sun. Summer sees the
mountains turn bright green with growing rice. During autumn, these mountains are gold, while
winter blankets them with white snow. These are the colours of the Longji Rice Terraces (梯田).
These terraces were built by the local Zhuang and Yao people. Starting in the Yuan Dynasty,
work on the terraces took hundreds of years and was finished in the early Qing Dynasty.
So why did these people work so hard to turn the entire mountains into terraces Firstly,
there is little flat land for farming. Building terraces allows them to grow more rice. Secondly,
although the area gets plenty of rain, the mountains are steep (陡峭的) and the soil is thin. The flat
terraces help to catch the rainwater and prevent the soil from being washed away.
To our surprise, the terraces show how people have worked in harmony with nature. The
design is really clever. Hundreds of waterways are connected with each other. During the rainy
season, rainwater moves along these waterways from the top of the mountains down to every
terrace. The sun heats the water and turns it into vapour. This creates clouds and then brings rain
back to the terraces. These terraces also provide a perfect home for birds and fish. Some of these
animals eat insects that can harm the rice plants.
Modern technology could help produce more rice, but the traditional ways are still very
important to the local people. This knowledge is passed down through families, which means that
new generations continue to use ancient methods of farming to maintain the terraces. Today, the
Longji Rice Terraces attract thousands of visitors who come to admire this great wonder created
by people and nature working together.

On May 13, 2025, 15 middle schools in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province have begun using AI
to grade students’ homework. This term, some schools have had big changes both for students and
teachers. These changes happened because AI tools were used.
By using AI to create personalized exercises and exams, teachers at the school can choose
their teaching methods for each student’s needs and abilities.
After students finish studying a lesson, teachers use AI to pick different questions from an
online database (数据库). It includes different materials. This helps create a set of exercises for
the lesson, helping students go over their knowledge. These exercises are then printed on paper.
“With this special learning material created by AI, we don’t need to carry all the heavy
exercise books any more,” said the 14-year-old He Liyan.
Students answer the exercise questions on answer sheets. Teachers collect these sheets, scan
(扫描) them into an AI system for grades. The AI creates numbers and graphics (图形) that help
teachers understand each student’s performance as well as how the whole class is doing in general.

depending on their performance in all the exams.
“The homework is all about what I got wrong before, so I don’t need to practice over and
over again what I already understand.” said He.
“I used to have a notebook copying my mistakes so that I can study them,” said Yu Zifu, 15.
“But now, AI has done this for me!”

答案第 1页,共 2页
are quite interesting.
According to the survey, 35% of students play sports simply to have fun, making it the most
popular reason. Another 30% exercise to keep fit, while 20% use sports as a way to reduce stress.
Only 10% take part in learning new skills, and 5% have other reasons.
Personally, I play sports for multiple reasons. Like many classmates, I enjoy the excitement
of basketball games with friends—it’s truly fun! At the same time, as a student facing daily
homework pressure, I find running helps clear my mind, just as the 20% stress-relievers reported.
Most importantly, through consistent practice, I’ve realized sports aren’t just about health or mood;
they teach teamwork and perseverance. These valuable lessons aren’t shown in the survey, but
they’re why I’ll keep playing sports forever.
