Opera and cinema have a lot in common:as a matter of fact, they use music, theatre, dance and other art forms at once. The two-way inspiration has brought about several interesting experiments.
Cinema has a longstanding fascination with the operatic medium.Opera has been used both as a setting and as a subject for cinema. From comic films to action films, opera scenes appear in a variety of genres(体裁).Whatever the film, scenes set in or around the opera tend to represent the most exciting moment in the plot.
Cinema is also capable of extending the visual elements of the opera:cameras can catch facial expressions from close or far, special visual effects can be added digitally, and montage can change the meaning of a scene.Far from replacing the operatic experience,opera-based films provide a different, complementary(互补的) take on operas:they become a genre of its own, which has been called the “opera-film”.
Adaptation of films into operas is quite a new development of the operatic world. It is,however,a quickly growing genre:more and more film-based operas are being produced. In the same way well-liked novels were chosen in the 19th century as plots for operas, nowadays composers turn to popular or relevant screenplays to attract the audience.
In the future, cinema and opera are highly likely to become more and more closely connected. While opera is fighting for relevance in the 21st century with new music produced, and cinema is slowly giving away its leading role to high-quality on-demand TV,the two media can work together to give rise to new forms of art, combining their advantages to create something that can become larger than the sum of their parts.
1.What does paragraph 3 mainly focus on
A.The visual elements of opera.
B.The strengths of cinema in adapting stories.
C.The new genre of opera-based film.
D.The unique settings and subjects of cinema.

2.What makes it likely for a film to be adapted into an opera
A.Its setting. B.Its subjects.
C.Its genres. D.Its popularity.
根据第四段中“In the same way well-liked novels were chosen in the 19th century as plots for operas, nowadays composers turn to popular or relevant screenplays to attract the audience.”

3.What does the last paragraph imply
A.Opera is becoming even more popular.
B.Combining opera and cinema is a beneficial idea.
C.New forms of art have taken the leading role.
D.On-demand TV is preferred for the sum of their parts.

根据最后一段中“While opera is fighting for relevance in the 21st century with new music produced, and cinema is slowly giving away its leading role to high-quality on-demand TV,the two media can work together to give rise to new forms of art, combining their advantages to create something that can become larger than the sum of their parts.”
4.What is the text mainly about
A.The similarities between cinema and opera.
B.The challenges faced by cinema and opera in modern times.
C.The interaction and influence between cinema and opera.
D.The requirements for successfully combining cinema and opera.

通读全文尤其根据第一段“Opera and cinema have a lot in common...The two-way inspiration has brought about several interesting experiments.”

New research examined the video gaming habits of 160 public-school preteen students(70% from lower income households),which represents an age group less studied in previous research.Participating students reported playing video games an average of 2.5 hours daily, with the group’s heaviest gamers putting in as much as 4.5 hours each day.
The team looked for association between the students’ video game play and their performance on the standardized Cognitive Ability Test 7,known as CogAT,which evaluates language, quantitative and non-language skills.CogAT was chosen as a standard measure,in contrast to the teacher-reported grades or self-reported learning assessments that previous research projects relied on.
Overall, neither time of play nor choice of video game types had obvious connections with the CogAT measures. That result showed no direct linkage between video game playing and cognitive performance, despite what had been assumed.
But the study showed another side of the issue, too.Certain types of games described to help children build healthy cognitive skills also presented no measurable effects,in spite of the games’ marketing messages. The current study found that types of gameplay that seem to improve cognitive functions in young adults don’t have the same effect on much younger children, which was consistent with previous research.
Does this mean the world can play on?Maybe, the research suggests. But the experts also warn that gaming time took the heaviest players away from other more productive activities—homework,to be specific—in a process psychologists call displacement. But even in those cases, the differences were slight between those participants’ and their peers’ CogAT measures of cognitive abilities.
The study results show parents probably don’t have to worry so much about cognitive failures among video game-loving children,up to fifth grade.Reasonable amounts of video gaming should be OK,which will be delightful news for the kids.At least now we understand that finding balance in childhood development is the key,and there’s no need for us to over-worry about video gaming.
5.What can we learn from the new research mentioned in the text
A.Reported grades are the only standard measure.
B.Poorer students are easier to have gaming addictions.
C.Most preteen students play video games 4.5 hours daily.
D.There is little direct relation between game play and CogAT results.

根据第三段“Overall, neither time of play nor choice of video game types had obvious connections with the CogAT measures. That result showed no direct linkage between video game playing and cognitive performance, despite what had been assumed.”
6.Which statement did the previous study also indicate
A.Types of gameplay matter in children’s cognitive development.
B.Young adults are more addictive to games.
C.Parents haven’t taken games’ marketing messages seriously.
D.Video games can have no effect on children’s cognitive functions.

根据第四段中“The current study found that types of gameplay that seem to improve cognitive functions in young adults don’t have the same effect on much younger children, which was consistent with previous research.”
7.What does the underlined word “displacement” in paragraph 5 describe
A.The change of position of game players.
B.The time usage of game players.
C.The homework completion of game players.
D.The social ranks of game players.

结合上文“But the experts also warn that gaming time took the heaviest players away from other more productive activities—homework,to be specific”可知,displacement这一过程指的是“重度玩家”将时间分配给玩游戏而非做家庭作业这样的更有成效的活动。
8.What does the author think is the most important for children’s development
A.Interest. B.Imagination.
C.Balance. D.Intelligence.

根据最后一段中“At least now we understand that finding balance in childhood development is the key,and there’s no need for us to over-worry about video gaming.”

4.What is the text mainly about
A.The similarities between cinema and opera.

根据第三段“Overall, neither time of play nor choice of video game types had obvious connections with the CogAT measures. That result showed no direct linkage between video game playing and cognitive performance, despite what had been assumed.”
