Activity 2
Talk about how to help people in need
As a middle school student, how can we help people in our daily lives?
We can help blind people cross the road/visit lonely elderly people in nursing homes/collect donations for poor children. Even small actions like smiling at someone who looks sad can be helpful.
Daniel and Millie are discussing how they can help people in their daily lives. Listen to the tape and answer the following questions.
1. How does Millie help her elderly neighbour?
2. Where does Daniel volunteer?
She goes shopping for her every week.
He volunteers at the community centre.
Read the conversation along with the recording and then read in different roles.
Daniel: How can we help people in our daily lives?
Millie: I have an elderly neighbour. It's difficult for her to walk, so I go shopping for her every week.
Daniel: It's very kind of you to do so.
Millie: I think it's meaningful for young people like us to help people in our spare time.
Daniel: You're right. And it's easy to volunteer at community centres at the weekend. I go to my community centre to help primary school students with their science projects on Saturdays.
Millie: That's nice.
