Mrs. Gump and Forrest wait for the school bus. The bus pulls up as Mrs. Gump prepares Forrest for his first day of school.
Mrs. Gump: You do your very best now, Forrest.
Forrest: I sure will, mama.
The bus driver opens the door and looks down. Forrest walks to the steps of the bus and look at the bus driver.
Bus Driver: Are you coming along
Forrest: Mama said not to be taken rides from strangers.
Bus Driver: This is the bus to school.
Forrest: I’m Forrest. Forrest Gump.
Bus Driver: I’m Dorothy Harris.
Forrest: Well, now we aren’t strangers anymore.
The bus driver smiles as Forrest steps up into the bus.
Mrs. Gump waves to Forrest as the bus driver drives away. Forrest begins to walk down the bus.
甘普夫人和福雷斯特正等着校车到来。当甘普夫人准备福雷斯特迎接他的开学第一天时，校车缓缓停在了他们面前。
甘普夫人：你现在就尽你最大的努力吧，福雷斯特。 福雷斯特：我肯定会尽力的，妈妈。
公交车司机打开车门，朝下看了看。福雷斯特走到公交车台阶前，注视着公交车司机。
公交车司机：你要一起走吗？福雷斯特：妈妈说不要接受陌生人的载送。 公交车司机：这是去学校的公交车。
福雷斯特：我叫福雷斯特。福雷斯特·甘普。 公交车司机：我叫桃乐丝·哈里斯。
福雷斯特：嗯，现在我们不再是陌生人了。
当福雷斯特走上公交车时，公交车司机露出了微笑。
甘普夫人向福雷斯特挥手告别，此时公交车司机正驾车离去。福雷斯特随即开始沿着公交车行进的方向步行。
Two young boys look up from the seat.
Boy 1: This seat’s taken.
Boy 2: It’s taken!
Forrest looks around. A larger girl moves over so Forrest can’t sit next to her. She shakes her head. Forrest looks to the other side where a boy sits alone on a larger seat. The boy looks angrily at Forrest.
Boy 3: You can’t sit here.
两个小男孩从座位上抬起头来。
男孩 1: 这个座位有人占了。
男孩 2: 得手了！
福雷斯特环顾四周。一个身材较为高大的女孩走了过来，这样一来福雷斯特就无法坐在她身旁了。她摇了摇头。福雷斯特将目光转向另一侧，那里有个男孩独自坐在一个较大的座位上。男孩怒视着福雷斯特。
男孩 3: 你不能坐在这儿。

Forrest (Voice-over):
You know it’s funny what a young man recollects. Because I don’t remember being born. I…don’t recall what I got for my first Christmas. I don’t know when I went on my first outdoor picnic.
But, I do remember
the first time I heard the sweetest voice in the wide world. I had never seen anything so beautiful in my life. She was like an angel.
福雷斯特（画外音）:
你知道这挺有意思的——一个年轻人回想起的事情。因为我完全不记得自己出生时的情景。我……也记不清第一次过圣诞节时收到了什么礼物。我甚至不知道自己第一次外出野餐是在何时。

Forrest sits down next to Jenny.
Jenny: What’s wrong with your legs
Forrest: Um, nothing at all, thank you. My legs are just fine and dandy.
Jenny: Then why do you have those shoes on
Forrest: My mama said my back’s crooked like a question mark. These are going to make me as straight as an arrow. They are my magic shoes.
Jenny: Are you stupid or something
Forrest: Mama says stupid is as stupid does.
福里斯特在珍妮身旁坐了下来。
珍妮：你的腿怎么了？
福雷斯特：嗯，没什么事，谢谢。我的腿现在感觉棒极了。
珍妮：那你为什么穿着那双鞋呢？
福雷斯特：我妈妈说我的背脊像是个问号一样弯曲。这些鞋子将会让我变得像箭一样笔直。它们是我的魔法鞋。
珍妮：你是傻还是怎么着？
福雷斯特：妈妈说，愚蠢就是言行皆蠢。
Jenny puts her hand out towards Forrest. Forrest reaches over and shakes her hands.
Jenny: I’m Jenny.
Forrest: I’m Forrest.
Forrest Gump.
Forrest (Voice-over):
From that day on, we was always together. Jenny and me was like peas and carrots.
珍妮把手伸向福雷斯特。福雷斯特走上前去，与她握手。
