What is happiness?Gopnik’s new book All That Happiness Is provides an answer. It suggests that happiness is the pursuit of something meaningful.
What does that pursuit require? How can we know if we arrive at the desired destination?Gopnik’s reflections on his life invite us to consider what such a pursuit truly demands. He recalls a personal moment of great happiness when,as a teenager,he locked himself in his bedroom with a guitar, studying rock ‘n’ roll songs from the Beatles songbook.
Gopnik declares that he is “not much better” at the guitar than he was at the end of that first week. However, the period of self-study became the foundation of almost every meaningful accomplishment in his life since.
Gopnik draws a difference between “accomplishment” and “achievement”,stating that accomplishment is rooted in an inner sense of having done something interesting and worthwhile, while achievement is rooted in external reward, having fulfilled the demands coming from an outside force.
I can’t help but think that today’s schools focus more on achievement than on accomplishment, which obviously does harm to our pursuit of happiness.Schools keep pushing students to achieve faster and higher, but they forget to let students breathe.A student might spend weeks cramming for exams, only to forget everything the next day. Students consistently achieve without the accompanying satisfaction of accomplishment.
Ultimately,to be happy, you have to center on what truly fulfills you.I can prove it.Even after a dozen years,I still get a kick out of the choice of writing a column in my hometown newspaper, from which I gained a sense of achievement.
It took me maybe 20 minutes to read All That Happiness Is,not much of an achievement; but the full worth of a book isn’t in how long it took to read it,but in how long it continues to exist in our lives.
1.Why does Gopnik share his experience of learning the guitar
A.To prove he loves playing the guitar.
B.To explain how his lifelong career started.
C.To share the methods of playing the guitar.
D.To show the influence of the period of his self-study.

根据第三段中的“However, the period of self-study became the foundation of almost every meaningful accomplishment in his life since.”
2.What’s the difference between achievement and accomplishment according to Gopnik
A.Accomplishment comes from inside.
B.Accomplishment is quite easy to get.
C.Achievement has greater influence.
D.Achievement brings people more joy.

根据第四段的“Gopnik draws a difference...,stating that accomplishment is rooted in an inner sense of having done something interesting and worthwhile, while achievement is rooted in external reward, having fulfilled the demands coming from an outside force.” 故选A项。
解析
3.What does the underlined part “get a kick out of” in paragraph 6 mean
A.Gain pleasure from.
B.Become nervous about.
C.Get attracted by.
D.Feel regretful for.

故选A项。
解析
4.What’s the author’s suggestion to the readers according to the last two paragraphs
A.To read this book repeatedly.
B.To learn guitar.
C.To focus on what really satisfies you.
D.To write a column.

根据倒数第二段中的“Ultimately,...center on what truly fulfills you.”

Then came the sound of a heavy door opening, and two seamen appeared.(P40,Para.2)
·表示方位方向的副词here,there,out,in,up,down,away位于句首,主语是名词时,引起句子全部倒装。

I can’t help but think that today’s schools focus more on achievement than on accomplishment, which obviously does harm to our pursuit of happiness.Schools keep pushing students to achieve faster and higher, but they forget to let students breathe.A student might spend weeks cramming for exams, only to forget everything the next day.Students consistently achieve without the accompanying satisfaction of accomplishment.

Writing a poem is about observing the world within or around you. 1 Writing poetry seems difficult. However, with the right approach, you can write a poem that you can be proud to share with others.
Pick a specific theme or idea. This can make it easier for you to narrow down what images and descriptions you are going to use in your poem. For example, you may decide to write a poem around the theme of love and friendship. 2
Avoid cliché(陈词滥调).Your poetry will be much stronger if you avoid clichés,which are phrases that have become so familiar that they have lost their meaning. 3 By doing so,your reader is surprised and attracted by your writing. If you feel a certain phrase or image is too familiar to your reader, replace it with a more unique one.
4 Poetry is made to be read out loud.So you should write your poem with a focus on how it sounds on the page.Pay attention to the structure of your poem and your word choice.Notice how each line of your poem flows into one another and how placing one word next to another creates a certain sound.
Get feedback(反馈) from others. You can also share your poem with other poets to get feedback from them and improve your poem. 5 Or you may take a poetry writing class, where you work with an instructor and other poets to improve your writing.
A.Write for the ear.
B.Do writing exercises.
C.Go for creative descriptions and images in your poem.
D.A poem can be about anything, from love to the gate at the old farm.
E.Strong emotional moments make for beautiful and interesting poems.
F.Then you may think about the moments where you experienced them.
