In most cases, the s 3 floor has three rooms with a central sitting room and two smaller ones. The sitting room is for m 4 visitors, working or relaxing. The rooms next to the central s 5 are the bedrooms.
But why do the Tujia people build houses in the air Well, it has something to do with w 6 they live. Most Tujia people live in the Wuling Mountains. The w 7 there is humid and often hot in summer. People can f 8 cooler and more comfortable living in a higher house. Also, higher houses can protect people from floods and d 9 creatures, such as snakes.
As a symbol of Tujia people's c 10 , the house built on stilts meets the need of people's material life and spiritual life. It decorates its natural surroundings and makes itself a part of nature.

What's your view—— do you think they should always be kept in good condition
People have been sharing their opinions online about the issue.
Yes No
Books deserve our respect. It doesn't matter as long as you read.
It is important to care for your books. This is especially true if the book costs a lot of money, or was given to you as a present. If you don't look after your books, people might not buy them for you in the future. They also won't last so long if they are damaged. If a book is full of ripped pages, or has a damaged cover, it is less likely that a friend will want to pick it up and read it, so you won't be able to share your favourite stories. If you donate it to a charity shop, it is less likely that someone will buy it. Over time, treating books badly could become a bad habit. If you damage novels that you've borrowed from the library or a friend, you might end up with a fine or an upset friend. One of the great things about an actual book is that readers can make it their own with notes. If it's a gift, you can write a nice message. These little scribbles are great to return to and can make a book feel personal and special to you. It doesn't matter if this means that a book isn't in perfect condition—— you can always buy a new copy if the old one gets too damaged. In the end, it should just be about what makes reading a book most enjoyable for each person. Authors just want people to read their stories; they don't mind how or where people do it. If a reader should happen to damage their copy along the way, it doesn't really matter.

In small villages, people often say hello to their neighbours in stores, on the streets, or outside their homes. But in cities, many people don't greet their neighbours, even when they are standing in line at a supermarket. A recent study shows that greeting neighbours, especially up to six people a day,is really good for you.
The study has found that greeting others can make you happier. The magic number is six. When you greet up to six people, your happiness score goes up. After that, the score shows no further rise. The study was carried out last year and got replies from more than 4,000 people. It tested people's social happiness, physical happiness, community happiness and more. People who greeted six neighbours had a much higher happiness score than those who didn't greet anyone.
You might think that saying hello is only about social happiness, but that's not true. Regular (经常的) greetings also improve your physical and community happiness. If you feel your community is safe, it's more possible for you to talk to people. Walking around your neighbourhood can make you feel better physically.
Dan Witters, the leader of the study, said,"We don't mean that you should know the person well. Just stop and talk to them. The more people you greet, the more chances you have to start a conversation.”
Remember, saying hello regularly is a good way to improve your own happiness.

A. The more people you know, the happier you are.
B. Saying hello may help people start a conversation.
C. Nothing improves happiness more than conversations.
D. Knowing people is more important than greeting them.

China has long been known as a nation of rites (礼仪之邦). Chinese people behave politely on any formal occasion, whether it is a wedding ceremony, a celebration party, or a banquet (宴席). The following basic Chinese table manners will help you generally master Chinese dinner manners.
One clear difference between Western and Eastern dining habits is portion (一份) size. While meals in Western restaurants are sized for individuals (个人), dishes offered in Chinese restaurants are meant to be shared. As such, food either comes in bite-sized pieces, or is prepared in a way that makes it easy to portion (分配) while being served to you on large plates.
As meals are shared, one may care about the degree of sanitation (卫生). It’s common to find communal chopsticks (公筷) placed with each dish. It is good manners to use the communal utensils in a public setting.
You may also notice that tables, especially those in larger dining rooms, are round and have a lazy Susan (more commonly known as “that rotating (旋转的) table on top of your table”). Besides efficiency (效率) purposes, circular tables stand for important meaning in Chinese culture. It means unity (团结) and presents dining as an event where family members get together. Before you spin the turntable to get to that delicious piece of duck, make sure that no one else is reaching for food! It’s impolite to spin the table just as someone is trying to pick up some food.
As mentioned above, Chinese restaurants often use round tables. In Western cultures, the host or the eldest family member often sits at the head of a long table. But what happens when the table is round
As a round table, the seat of honor (首位) is the one facing the door. The closer you are sitting next to that seat, the more important you are. In a setting where there is no doorway—outdoor dining, for example—the seat of honor would be the one facing east. In a banquet environment, the table of honor is usually the one sitting farthest away from the door.
The time at which the dining begins depends on the presence of party members. The suitable time to dig in is after the guest of honor, or the eldest member of the group, is seated and has begun their meal. Sometimes they will mean the start of a meal, by saying “吃吧” which means “Please eat”.
( )8.What should we do if we have meals in a public setting
A.Bring your own chopsticks from home. B.Use communal chopsticks to get food.
C.Use your own chopsticks to share food. D.Share the food with others’ chopsticks.
( )9.What does the underlined word “spin” in the passage mean
A.turn something around B.pull something nearer
C.pick something up D.move something away
( )10.What is the main idea of Paragraph 4
A.Why the table is round B.How can you find a seat
C.Which is the honor seat D.Who is the most important
( )11.How does the writer organize the article
A.In time order. B.From specific to general.
C.In space order. D.From general to specific.

The four March sisters—Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy—lived in a small house in Massachusetts with their mother, Marmee. Their father was away at the war, and Marmee taught the girls to be kind, polite and hard-working.
One Christmas, the girls were very sad because they didn't have much money for presents. But Marmee told them about a poor family nearby: a mother with a new baby, and five hungry children. They had no fire to keep warm, and no food to eat.
"Girls," said Marmee, "will you give your Christmas breakfast to that poor family as a present "
Meg was the oldest. She loved beautiful things and nice food, but she said politely, "I think we should do it. It's Christmas, and we should help those who are in need."
Jo was a lively girl. She loved writing and she was very brave. She said, "I'm glad you asked us, Marmee. I was thinking about our own presents, but we have so much more than that poor family."
Beth was a quiet, kind girl. She loved playing the piano. She said softly, "I will give my food to the little babies. They must be very hungry."
Amy was the youngest. She loved drawing and she was a little spoiled. At first, she said, "I don't want to give my food away. I was looking forward to the nice breakfast." But then she saw her sisters' faces, and she said politely, "But I will give it too. It's not fair that we have food and they don't."
So the four girls and Marmee put all their breakfast into a basket, and walked to the poor family's house.
When they got there, the house was cold and dark. The mother was holding the crying baby, and the children were huddled together under a thin blanket. They were very hungry and cold.
Marmee gave the mother the food and the blanket. The girls made a fire, and gave the children bread and milk. The children stopped crying, and smiled happily. The mother cried and thanked them again and again. She said they were angels.
On their way home, the girls didn't have any breakfast, but they were very happy.
Marmee said to them, "My dear girls, you have learned the best lesson of Christmas. To be kind and helpful to others is the best present you can give. And being polite and thoughtful to those who are less lucky than you is the true meaning of good manners."
That Christmas, the girls learned that the best happiness comes from being kind, polite and helpful to others.

The Xiaoxitian scenic area (景区) in Xixian County Linfen City, Shanxi Province is one of the shooting locations of the popular game “Black Myth: Wukong”. The famous scene “Seeing the future, why not worship ” in the game is set here. In this scenic area, there are many extremely beautiful painted sculptures in the Mahavira Hall. These may have inspired the game’s scene design.
Recently, a new kind of mythology (神话) has been gaining popularity among young people, especially those who love video games and animation. It’s called “Black Myth: Wukong”. Wukong in the game is not the same as the Monkey King we know from the classic Chinese novel “Journey to the West”. In this new version, Wukong has a darker, more mysterious personality. He still has powerful abilities, but he also faces many challenges. The story of Wukong takes place in a magical world full of strange creatures and exciting adventures. It combines traditional Chinese culture with modern elements. Many young people find this world fascinating and enjoy exploring it through video games, animations, and even comic books.
The Xiaoxitian scenic area is not very large. The core scenic spot, the Mahavira Hall, is only 169.6 square meters. But inside this hall, there are more than 1,900 painted sculptures of different sizes, ranging from the largest three meters tall to the smallest as small as a thumb. After nearly four hundred years, these sculptures are still intact (完好的) and look brand new.
It is known as the “Museum of Hanging Sculpture Art in China”. Its unique artistic value and connection with the popular game have made the Xiaoxitian scenic area attract a large number of tourists. During this year’s National Day holiday, the number of tourists to the Xiaoxitian scenic area has increased by 20 times compared to the same period last year.

Dear Eric,
I am excited to know that you are coming to study and live in China. I'd like to offer you some tips about manners in China so that you can feel free at home.
China is a country with a long history and social manners. So as the saying goes, “manners
make the man”.Firstly, when you meet someone for the first time, it's polite to shake hands. This is a common greeting. Secondly, show respect by using both hands when you give or receive something. Moreover, it is polite to use respectful languages when talking to older people. Also, remember to bring a small gift to show your thank to your host family. Finally, learning a few easy Chinese words and sentences will be useful. It shows you try to fit in and respect the culture.
When going to a party, it's important to dress properly. You must arrive on time and avoid talking about money. There are also many manners at the dinner table, such as not talking with food in your mouth and not rushing your meal. Leave the table until everyone has finished eating. Don’t forget to praise the host for the tasty food and say “thank you” when you are about to leave.
At school, we must follow the school rules, like not saying dirty words or fighting with others. They are harmful. Instead, it’s a good manner to greet our teachers and be kind to our classmates.
These are just a few examples of the rich manners in China. I'm sure that you'll learn more as you immerse(沉浸在) yourself in our culture.
Please feel free to ask for more information.I’m looking forward to meeting you in China.
Yours,
Li Hua
