Everything was great — until it wasn’t. It took me a while to notice things were changing. My beloved magazines were struggling to survive. The editors, photographers, and publications I admired were being elbowed out by Instagram influencers and YouTube tutorials. These changes I could live with. I had spent my life adapting.
What proved harder to accept were changes inside my own company. For years, I built my cosmetics (化妆品) brand, and my message was direct — be yourself, only better. However, as the company expanded worldwide, a new management team brought a stronger focus on global trends and profits. Meetings grew larger and more formal, dominated by charts and forecasts instead of conversations about real customers. While I understood the need for growth, I sensed that our original vision was slowly fading.
The turning point came during a discussion about gaining a bigger share of the Asian market. Managers pointed out that skin-whitening was a top-selling category there. “If we don’t enter it,” they said, “we won’t remain competitive.” Their reasoning was practical and data-driven.
But the suggestion unsettled me deeply. For more than twenty years, I had encouraged women to choose foundation that matched their natural skin tone. Launching a whitening product seemed to contradict everything I stood for. I consider myself a reasonable person, but I’m a fighter when I believe in something. So instead of rejecting the idea outright, I asked questions. Why did customers want whitening cream The answer was that they wanted brighter-looking skin.
That distinction mattered. Brightening skin to enhance its glow was not the same as changing its color. After long discussions, we reached an agreement: we would create a brightening product focused on glow, not on making skin lighter. I insisted that our message would never suggest women needed to alter who they were.
The experience taught me that business expansion often tests personal principles. Following trends may increase profits, but protecting core values builds lasting trust. Even as the world changed around me, I remained committed to the belief that true beauty does not require becoming someone else.
24. According to the first two paragraphs, what troubled the author most
A. Media evolution. B. Market competition.
C. Corporate shifts. D. Online trends.
25. What does the underlined word “it” refer to in Paragraph 3
A. The discussion. B. The Asian market.
C. The reasoning. D. The skin-whitening category.
26. How did the author eventually bridge the gap with the managers
A. By prioritizing data. B. By following the trends.
C. By changing the product’s goal. D. By offering more choices.
27. What is the passage mainly about
A. Business expansion often results in high costs.
B. Staying true to oneself is essential in business.
C. Marketing power is key to reaching global customers.
D. Surviving the digital age requires constant adaptation.

A fake job advertisement that’s gone viral online recently says Open AI is looking for a “kill switch” engineer. The job description requires the successful applicant to stand by servers all day and unplug them “if this thing turns on us”. Useful skills include the ability to “throw a bucket of water on the servers, too”
Despite widespread fears of job losses owing to the rise of AI agents, it is not all black humour. The technology is already creating new roles — to train agents, integrate them in organizations and ensure that they behave. These new roles start with AI trainers. No longer are they low-paid data annotators repetitively tagging images. As AI models have become more advanced, professionals in subjects such as finance, law and medicine have increasingly been enlisted to help train AI system. Once robots are trained, teams of so-called AI integrators are needed to integrate them into organizations. In practice, their jobs are a blend of developer, consultant and salesman.
Himanshu Palsule, chief executive of Cornerstone OnDemand, uses Waymo, a fast-growing robotaxi firm, as an example of how the job of a developer is evolving. Waymo’s cars drive themselves from start to finish. But what if they break down, locking their passengers inside Then comes the need for what he calls “the guy in the sky”, a remote human troubleshooter who needs to understand not just the technology, but also how to handle exhausted passengers. Himanshu Palsule says, “Things are different. Writing code can now be done by an algorithm (算法). Your personality is where your value is.”
Responsible for bringing all these roles together is the chief AI officer, an addition to the top-management as chief executives have to assure their boards that they are taking the technology very seriously. Chief AI officers usually combine technical expertise with deep knowledge of a particular industry and a record of updating corporate processes. It is a job for strong-hearted people. Yet, under such pressure, even they may feel the urge to reach for a “kill switch”.
28. What is the main duty of a “kill switch” engineer
A. To fix broken AI servers quickly. B. To design a new kind of AI server.
C. To stop AI systems in case of danger. D. To train AI agents to work efficiently.
29. What do we know about today’s AI trainers
A. They are low-paid workers. B. They sell AI tools to customers.
C. They have replaced AI integrators. D. They are experts from diverse fields.
30. What can we infer from Palsule’s words in Paragraph 3
A. Humanity is more valuable than coding skills.
B. Machines are more difficult to handle than people.
C. Software engineers should develop better algorithms.
D. Personal experience matters more than academic ability.
31. What is the purpose of the last paragraph
A. To introduce ways to stop dangerous AI.
B. To highlight human leadership in the AI era.
C. To summarize the challenges of software engineers.
D. To explain the necessity of the “kill switch” engineer.

For decades, a group of naturally well-preserved mummies (木乃伊) discovered in the deserts of northwestern China puzzled archaeologists and historians, but now, ancient DNA has shed new light on who these people really were.
Most of the mummies were unearthed in the 1990s in what is now the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The origins of hundreds of mummified bodies buried in wooden boat-like coffins (棺材) in the harsh environment of China’s Tarim Basin have since sparked intense debate. These more than 4,000-year-old mummies remain astonishingly undamaged, featuring Western facial features and finely woven woolen clothes. Their unusual grave goods — including cheese and wheat — initially led researchers to believe they were herders from the western grasslands or farmers from Central Asia who had migrated into the region.
However, a comprehensive DNA analysis has turned that long-standing theory on its head. A team of scientists from China, Europe, and the United States examined the genes of 13 of these mummies. To their surprise, the results showed that the remains did not belong to newly arrived outsiders. Instead, the mummies were the direct descendants of a long-isolated local population linked to an ancient Ice Age family line — a group that had largely disappeared elsewhere nearly 10,000 years ago.
“Not only are these mummies exceptionally well-preserved, but they represent an extremely genetically isolated local population that maintained its identity for thousands of years,” said Christina Warinner, a professor of anthropology at Harvard University. Despite that, they were far from closed-off. They appeared to enthusiastically embrace new ideas and technologies, adopting farming and dairy practices from their neighbors while maintaining their unique burial traditions.
Michael Frachetti, an anthropology professor, noted the paradox: “We see a community that was culturally well-integrated — drawing from diverse traditions — yet genetically they remained remarkably distinct.” This research highlights a vital historical lesson: genetics doesn’t always correspond to cultural exchange. People can adopt new ways of life without necessarily moving or mixing with others, proving that human history is far more complex than once imagined.
32. What made researchers previously think the mummies were migrants
A. Their physical looks and everyday items. B. The location where they were unearthed.
C. The harsh environment they lived in. D. The way they were placed in coffins.
33. What did the DNA study reveal about the mummies
A. They were native residents from the far past.
B. They came from Central Asia during the Ice Age.
C. Their genes match those of the modern population.
D. Their genetic makeup helped them stay in good condition.
34. What is the “paradox” Frachetti mentions in the last paragraph
A. Traditional continuity despite genetic mixing. B. Remarkable preservation despite their age.
C. Cultural openness but genetic distinctness. D. New lifestyles but no physical migration.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. Footsteps of Ancient Migrants B. The Desert Mummies Have Spoken
C. The Remarkable Mummies in China D. Silent Sands Guarded a Hidden Mystery
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Have you ever had a day during exam preparation when you sat down to concentrate 36 I’ve been there too. And the most important lessons I learned didn’t come from books — they came from understanding how to protect my mindset. If you’re preparing for a competitive exam, here are three things you must keep private until you succeed.
Never Share Your Goals
Many students loudly announce their targets — what score they want, or which rank they dream of. But sharing your goals weakens the inner tension that pushes you to work harder. Before you talk about them, your goals create a kind of inner fire — stress, urgency, and hunger. The moment you announce them, that fire drops. 37 That temporary high makes you feel as if you’ve already achieved something, reducing the hunger that actually leads to achievement.
Never Share Your Progress
38 When someone asks, just say, “It’s going on.” Revealing your progress harms you. Once you share it, people immediately start judging or suggesting changes: “Use this book.” “Follow my timetable.” You begin doubting your own strategy, even if it was working well. There’s no perfect plan — only consistent efforts.
Don’t Share Your Fears With Companions
Every student carries silent struggles — family pressure, financial stress, emotional pain. Sharing your fears with another student rarely helps because they are already overwhelmed by their own worries. 39 Talk instead to a mentor, a trusted family member, or write privately.
Your exam preparation is a personal journey. Protect your focus. 40 . The calmer you stay, the better your exam results will be.
A. Let silence work for you.
B. Exam pressure can help you stay focused.
C. Don’t mention how much revision you’ve done.
D. You will receive instant praise that gives you a burst of excitement.
E. Keeping your goals to yourself is one of the best ways to stay motivated.
F. Your books were open, your notes were ready, yet your mind was wandering.
G. They can’t offer the emotional support, and oversharing often leads to regret.

The Labor Day holiday was just around the corner, and the school launched a “Campus Renewal” project. Class 12 got the toughest job — repainting the old basketball court. Its lines had faded and were hardly visible, and the wooden spectator benches were rough and worn.
To make it meaningful, the teacher paired students who didn’t normally work together. Leo, a quiet boy who always had his nose in a book, was partnered with Ethan, the football team captain — loud, confident, and used to being in charge. Their task was to repaint a section of the wall and two old benches before the end of the day.
“Perfect,” Ethan said. “I’ll take the big brush. You do the tiny edges.”
Leo wanted to protest. He had watched painting videos the night before and knew they should first protect the edges with tape. But before he could speak, Ethan got the brush wet, splashing orange paint onto the wall.
“Wait!” Leo tried to hold him back. “Relax, bookworm,” Ethan interrupted, swinging the brush against the wall. Paint flew everywhere — on the wall, on the ground and onto the bench beside them.
Leo’s jaw tightened. He grabbed a small brush and knelt to fix the edges Ethan was ignoring. For the next twenty minutes, they existed in two different worlds. Ethan attacked the large areas with wild energy, leaving thick drops and uneven spots. Leo carefully traced the edges of the benches, his work neat but painfully slow.
When Ethan finally stopped to admire his work, he turned and froze. The bench beside him was covered in orange dots. The ground was a mess of footprints. His section of the wall looked like a storm had swept through it. The afternoon sun was beginning to set.
“Uh…” Ethan whispered. Leo stood up, looked at the disaster, and said nothing. But his silence spoke louder than any shout.

第一节范文:
My Senior Year Keyword
Good morning, dear teachers and fellow students! If I were to pick one word for my senior year, balance
would be the very choice that guided me through the tough days.
Looking back, those days were filled with endless pressure and nonstop efforts. Mountains of exam
papers, countdown calendars, and flickering midnight lamps—such was my life, a battlefield where I once
sacrificed everything for scores. I studied constantly, skipped meals, and abandoned hobbies, only to suffer
exhaustion and declining grades. The turning point came when my teacher reminded me that a mind stretched
by tension alone cannot reach its full potential. I began scheduling daily breaks for singing and exercising,
after which my efficiency surprisingly improved.
What this experience taught me is simple yet profound: excellence requires rhythm, not sacrifice. As we
step into the future, let us remember that balance is not laziness—it is wisdom.
Thank you for your listening!
第二节范文:
Ethan took a deep breath and broke the awkward silence. “I really messed up,” he admitted, staring
at the orange-splattered bench and the chaotic wall before them, his face flaming with regret. Leo picked up
the masking tape and offered him a calm, encouraging look. “We can still fix this,” he said softly, “but we
have to cooperate. ” Ethan nodded earnestly, his usual boldness replaced by genuine modesty. Following
Leo s careful instructions, they taped every edge carefully, applied paint with gentle patience, and the
invisible barrier between the two boys gradually faded away.
The two boys worked side by side, no longer in their own worlds. They moved in a silent, efficient
rhythm—Ethan brushed steadily with great caution, while Leo refined every delicate border. When they
finished, the wall glowed with smooth orange, and the benches looked completely new. Ethan patted Leo s
shoulder sincerely, admitting that he had saved them both, while Leo responded with a rare warm smile,

acknowledging he couldn t have finished in time on his own. The teacher praised their clean, tidy lines and
outstanding cooperation. Walking back, Ethan shared football plans excitedly, and Leo unexpectedly joined
in. Different as they were, they learned real strength lies in combining talents—a lesson that would remain
vivid long after the holiday.

W: Hello, Mr. Thompson. I m Alexandra Jones. I want to ask you some questions about the project that you
offer.
M: Yes, of course, please fire away.
W: Has the project been effective in improving the environment
M: Yes, absolutely. We have seen great results. Last year, we planted a small field of trees, and we
have been measuring their oxygen output to see the benefits that they have provided to the
environment. (14) Our current goal is to plant a lot more tree species so that we can compare the
benefits of each species. (15) In order to do this, we need to get a lot more students involved in
the project. (13)
W: Well, the project sounds fascinating. I would definitely like to be involved. (13)
M: Absolutely. Over the years, we have received funding from private investors and from selling shares, but
the biggest improvement in our research came from a government fund that we received in the
first year. (16) This has greatly improved the organization, and we have since won prizes for our
research.
W: Wow, how impressive!

Text 10
Hi, everyone. I m a weather forecaster, which means I study what happens in the atmosphere and the
weather conditions that occur on Earth. People are always surprised to learn that forecasters aren t just
involved in weather reporting on TV, but they could also work at a radio station, too. I often get asked how
I got interested in weather. Believe it or not, as a teenager, I became nervous of thunderstorms, and
I d often check the forecasts to see if any were coming. From there, my interest developed. (17) If
you are thinking of going into weather forecasting, there are some important skills you ll need. You have to be
good at science, of course. The essential thing is having the ability to make sense of patterns. (18) You
won t go too far wrong with that. Another useful skill is being able to translate a forecast into something
people at home can understand. Most weather experts study physics and math before going on to do a more
specialized course in forecasting. My own way in was somewhat different, as I did a business degree
before getting into television as a researcher. (19) I moved around quite a lot at the TV station and
eventually ended up in the weather department, where I did my training. (20)
