China has built a new tall bridge, breaking its own record for the world’s highest bridge. This new bridge crosses the Beipan River in Guizhou Province, 625 meters above the water. It is expected to make travel faster and bring more tourists to the area.
Guizhou Province is known for its natural beauty. But big mountains and deep
valleys (山谷) make traveling around the area difficult. One of the hardest places to go to is the Huajiang Grand Canyon ( 花江大峡谷). The canyon is very deep and long. People call it the “Earth’s Crack” .
On September 28, 2025, the Huajiang Canyon Bridge opened. It is a suspension bridge(悬索桥). It’s held up by cables(钢索) hanging from towers. That central part is nearly 1.42 kilometers long. And the whole bridge is 2.89 kilometers long.
It took three years and eight months to build the bridge. Because of its height and
location, special safety steps were needed. Over 400 sensors (传感器) were placed on the bridge to check safety, and 96 trucks drove across it to test it under real conditions.
Before the bridge, people had to drive around the mountains, which took about 2 hours. Now, the trip across the bridge takes just 2 minutes.
The bridge is now part of the Guizhou S57 highway. But the builders also want it to be a place for tourists. There is a glass walkway on the bridge so visitors can look down at the river far below. Some tourists can even take a glass elevator up to a special
cafe inside a tower. For those who want more excitement, there is also bungee (蹦极)
jumping from the bridge.
China has been putting a lot of effort into improving transportation across Guizhou’s rugged landscape. In the 1980s, the province had less than 3,000 bridges. It now has over 32,000 of them, including almost half of the world’s 100 tallest bridges.

Plastic waste is a very big problem in oceans all over the world. According to a
study, between 1950 and 2020, 32 million metric tons ( 公吨) of plastic went into the ocean. That’s more than the weight of 200,000 blue whales. And it's believed that could increase to 76 million metric tons by 2040.
二、阅读理解(素材来源:Engoo Daily News)
Researchers and students from the Technical University of Munich decided to do
something about this. They created a robot that that has a big job to do: clean the ocean. This robot was named The Smart Grapple.
The Smart Grapple uses AI to find waste under the water. It is 115 centimeters high, 70 centimeters wide, and weighs 120 kgs. But with its four “fingers”, it can lift objects out of the sea that weigh up to 250 kgs. The robot was trained to find waste using over 7,500 pictures of under-water things that were marked as either waste or natural thingss. It is on a boat that helps power it and lift heavy things, and also takes the plastic waste to shore (海岸).
The Smart Grapple is part of a larger project by the European Union called
SeaClear 2.0, which hopes to have a large number of robots cleaning up plastic waste from the ocean by 2033. Thirteen universities and companies in Europe are taking part in the project.
According to Bart De Schutter from SeaClear 2.0, right now most ocean clean-ups are being done by human divers ( 潜水 员). But they're not available all the time, so using robots could be a good way to keep the oceans cleaner. De Schutter says that while these robots can’t fix the problem of plastic waste in the whole ocean, they can be especially helpful in places that get a lot of waste, like harbors (港口).
( ) 1. According to the passage, how much plastic waste might go into the ocean by

But big mountains and deep valleys (山谷) make traveling around the area difficult. One of the hardest places to go to is the Huajiang Grand Canyon (花江大峡谷). The canyon is very deep and long. People call it the “Earth’s Crack”.

清洁海洋的机器人 说明文 ★★★☆☆ 294 ________ _____/5
Plastic waste is a very big problem in oceans all over the world. According to a study, between 1950 and 2020, 32 million metric tons (公吨) of plastic went into the ocean. That’s more than the weight of 200,000 blue whales. And it's believed that could increase to 76 million metric tons by 2040.
Researchers and students from the Technical University of Munich decided to do something about this.
The Smart Grapple is part of a larger project by the European Union called SeaClear 2.0, which hopes to have a large number of robots cleaning up plastic waste from the ocean by 2033. Thirteen universities and companies in Europe are taking part in the project.
According to Bart De Schutter from SeaClear 2.0, right now most ocean clean-ups are being done by human divers (潜水员). But they're not available all the time, so using robots could be a good way to keep the oceans cleaner. De Schutter says that while these robots can’t fix the problem of plastic waste in the whole ocean, they can be especially helpful in places that get a lot of waste, like harbors (港口).
