That evening, about two hours before dark, our guide rode ahead and we could hardly see him.
Suddenly, wolves rushed out in front of him. Two of them attacked the guide. One bit the horse and
the other jumped to attack the man directly.
“Help!” the guide shouted.
Friday pulled out his gun and rushed ahead of us.
“Master!” he shouted, and then he shot the wolf.
The other wolf ran away when its companion fell to the ground. The guide's horse seemed fine,
but the guide himself was not. The wolf had bitten him twice, once in the arm and once in the leg.
Friday was helping the man off his horse when the rest of us caught up with them. Suddenly, a
bear was running out from behind the trees toward my friends.
While anyone else was scared, Friday only smiled and said,“I’ ll show him some tricks.” He ran
past the bear, popping it on the head with a stone. The bear ran after Friday. Friday set down his gun
before climbing up a big tree beside the road.

branch to stand on. The bear climbed on the branch after my friend.

branch, causing it to bounce. The bear looked at him in fear, for they were high in the tree.

the end of the branch, making it bend until it nearly touched the branch below. Then he used these

In winter, the sun goes down earlier, and we start going to bed earlier too. But while our sleep
might change with the season, our eating habits may not. Eating late while sleeping early can influence
our body more than we think.
Our bodies have a natural clock inside called the circadian rhythm(昼夜节律). It helps the body
stay in balance by following a 24-hour cycle.
The circadian rhythm is influenced by light. So in winter, when it gets dark earlier, our bodies
begin producing melatonin(something in your brain that helps you fall asleep)-the hormone(荷尔蒙
)that helps us get ready for sleep-earlier in the evening. And if you go to bed earlier but keep eating
dinner at the same time, it can trouble your body.
One reason for this is that your metabolism(新陈代谢) also starts to slow down as it gets dark,
which means your body processes food more slowly than it does earlier in the day.
In fact, it's always good to eat earlier in the day. Experts (people with special knowledge or
abilities) recommend finishing dinner at least two hours before going to bed, because this gives your
body time to digest food properly. A 2021 study found that eating dinner around 6 p. m. instead of 9 p.
m. helps keep blood sugar levels more balanced, which may reduce the risk of heart disease. And a
2022 study found that people who eat dinner at 5 p. m. have lower levels of hunger hormones and
burn more fat than those who eat at 9 p. m.
Research has also shown that people who eat most of their calories earlier in the day often lose
more weight and have better health, including lower blood sugar levels.
So during the winter, try eating your meals a little earlier-it might be better for your health in the
long run!
33. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about
·A. What role melatonin plays in our sleep.
B. Which eating habit suits our winter sleep.
C. Why our body needs the circadian rhythm.
D. How winter light influences our sleep and eating.

· A. Deals with. B. Searches for. C. Cleans up. D. Gives out.

A. To study results of different dinner time.
九年级英语试题 第 4 页(共 8 页)

If you look online, you can find earbuds for less than $10 that offer real-time AI-powered
translation of many languages. You just wear them, and they’ ll translate what they hear into your
chosen language.
That means if you' re trying to communicate with a police officer in Spain, a waiter in Malaysia,
or a new friend in Egypt, you' ll be able to understand what they' re saying with the help of the
earbuds Some of these earbuds even say their translations are 99%correct.It sounds almost like magic,
doesn't it
Perhaps. But language experts remind us that translating a language and learning a language are
very different things.
Language professors Gabriel Guillén and Thor Sawin say that while translation earbuds may be
useful in some situations, they can't replace the advantages of language learning.
“The effort of learning a language communicates respect, trust and a willingness to see the
world through someone else's eyes,” they say.“As people continue to move around the world more
and more, learning languages allows us to make deeper connections with people from different
cultures.”
Research has already suggested that using AI when we' re writing means we exercise our brains
less-and the same idea applies to translation earbuds. They give us answers, but we don't have to
work our minds to get them.
Guillén and Sawin say that learning a language isn't easy, but it is worth the effort. They add,“
The very attributes(特质) companies look for in the AI age, like lifelong learning, creative thinking
and active listening, are all developed through language learning.”
So it's easy to look at those cheap earbuds and think about all the things we could get by using
them. But we should also think: What might we lose by taking the easy way out
37. How does the writer introduce translation earbuds in the first two paragraphs
A. By sharing the opinions of their users. B. By comparing them with other products.
C. By giving examples of their practical use. D. By listing the features of language translation.
38. What does the writer try to show by mentioning Guillén and Sawin's words
A. The importance of language learning. B. The difficulty in using translation earbuds.
C. The advantages of translation earbuds. D. The best ways to learn foreign languages.
69. What does“the same idea” in paragraph 6 refer to
A. High-tech tools reduce brain exercise. B. AI can help people with writing greatly.
C. Trying new ways makes learning easier. D. Using AI can offer people correct answers.

40. What can we learn from the last paragraph

With a hope to see more places of China, I planned a trip to the northwest with seven friends from
different countries.
We bought round-trip tickets from Shanghai to Yinchuan, Ningxia Hui AutonomousRegion. 41|
After that, we would head for Qinghai Lake and finally reach Lanzhou, GansuProvince. Certainly, we all
have driver's licenses.
At Yinchuan Airport, taxi drivers offered us rides into the city, only to be shocked when we told
them we had rented cars.“ 42 ,” one asked, as foreign drivers are rare in China, especially in
remote areas.
After buying snacks in Yinchuan, we drove west through wonderful landscapes. One of the best
parts of our trip was camping by Qinghai Lake. We could do this all thanks to our friendSantiago Solano.
A few summers earlier, he cycled from Xi’ an to Urumqi and met many kind strangers. 43 This
Tibetan herder (藏族牧民) managed a piece of land right next toQinghai Lake and invited us to camp
there.“That's what China is-it's the people. An old Tibetan herder we once met still offered us a place to
rest, even years later,” said Solano.
44 Driving through Northwest China gave us a different way of seeing this country's natural
beauty and its people. At gas stations, shopkeepers greeted us with kindness, giving us suggestions on
good places to visit. At every stop, we were touched by the warmth around us. 45

common ground between the two countries, despite their differences.
