library.
Tennis
If you just want to hit a ball with a friend, all you need is a racket and tennis balls. However,
if you really want to make this a hobby, joining some training courses (课程) is a good idea.
Guitar
If you’ve always wanted to learn a musical instrument, the guitar is a great place to start.
You can often buy a used guitar to practise on until you are good at it and then buy a new one.
As you can see, there are some great, inexpensive (不贵的) hobbies for you to spend your

Tommy began to fight with his brother Kevin. Later, Kevin went upstairs with a hurt look on his
face. I didn’t think it was a big problem.
About 20 minutes later, when I was walking upstairs, I heard Kevin crying in his room. I
knocked on the door and asked, “Kevin, do you want to talk with me ”
There was no answer. I tried again. Still, nothing happened. I took a piece of paper and
wrote, “If you don’t want to talk, we can write notes to each other.” Then I slipped (悄悄塞) it
under the door.
Half an hour later, I was still sitting outside his door. Then, a note slipped out from under
the door. When I read it, I couldn’t help crying. It said, “Nobody in this family loves me. I am not
the youngest nor the oldest, and I am not the smartest. Tommy thinks I am too weak, and Dad
wishes he had another Kevin who is better at basketball. You’re never around to even notice me.”
He was right about my part. Feeling sorry for him, I wrote back, “Kevin, I do love you, and
everyone in this family loves you.”
I could hear him crying softly. A few minutes later, another note with “Thanks!” slipped

(本题 10分)One early morning, I went into the living room to find my mother reading a
thick book called Best Loved Poems to Read Again and Again. I was only interested in the word
“Poems” that appeared in big, hot pink letters.
“Is it good ” I asked her.
“Yeah,” she answered. “There’s one I really like and you’ll like it, too.” I leaned forward.
试卷第 1页,共 3页
“Patty Poem,” she read the title. *Who is Patty * I wondered. The poem began:
She never puts her toys away,
Just leaves them in a mess where they lay. ...
The poem was just three short sections. The final one came quickly:
When she grows and gathers poise (稳重),
I’ll miss her harum-scarum (莽撞的) noise,
And look helplessly for scattered (散乱的) __________.
And I’ll be sad.
A terrible deep sadness washed over me. Whoever Patty was, she was a mean girl. Then,
the shock.
“It’s you, honey,” My mother said sadly.
To my mother, the poem showed a parent’s love when her child grows up and leaves. To me,
the “she” in the poem was horror. It was my mama who would be sad. It was so terrible I burst out
crying.
“What’s wrong ” my mother asked.
“Oh Mama,” I cried. “I don’t want to grow up ever!”
She smiled. “Honey, it’s okay. You’re not growing up anytime soon. And when you do, I’ll
still love you, okay ”
“Okay,” I was still weeping. My fear has gone. But I could not help thinking about that silly
poem. After what seemed like a safe amount of time, I read the poem again and was confused. It
all fit so well together, like a puzzle. The language was simple, so simple I could clearly
understand its meaning, yet it was still beautiful. I was now attracted by the idea of poetry, words
that had the power to make or break a person’s world.
I have since fallen in love with other poems, but “Patty Poem” remains my poem. After all,
“Patty Poem” gave me my love for poetry not because it was the poem that lifted my spirits, but
because it was the one that hurt me the most.

(本题 10分)When it comes to warm-weather activities that are good for your health, you
probably think of walking, hiking or running. But there’s another activity—gardening.
A busy day in the garden can be a good form of exercise. It is helpful for your physical
health. People breathe deeper when they are outside. As people breathe deeper, the oxygen (氧气)
level in their blood slowly increases, making them feel refreshed.
Spending time outdoors has been shown to help lift spirits and lower levels of stress (压力).
After a working day in the hospital, I would spend an hour or so in my garden. I find that pulling
weeds (杂草) can let me feel calm after a long day. It provides me with the chance to slow down,
plan or work out a problem in my mind.
Gardening can also bring people together and make social connections stronger. The
gardening community is rich with people willing to share their knowledge, time and sometimes
plants with new gardeners. Many gardening friendships begin with celebrating a success or
regretting a gardening mistake. The friendships that I’ve made have been the best gift that
gardening has given me. During the spring, my friends and neighbors plan our vegetable gardens
together. We discuss what works well or needs to be improved from last year. In summer, we

We teenagers face more pressure while growing up. The main reasons are heavy
schoolwork and poor relationships with others. Too much homework leaves us no time to relax,
and some students struggle to get on well with others, feeling lonely.
To relieve pressure, we can take part in class activities like sports meetings and singing
competitions. Besides, communicating with classmates often helps a lot.
In my opinion, proper pressure is good for our growth. We should learn to face it bravely
instead of avoiding it.
