Last summer, our school organized an international camp for students from six countries. At first, many of us felt excited but also nervous. Lin Tao asked, “How can we communicate well with people from different cultures ”
During the opening ceremony, each group presented their traditional festivals. Maria from Mexico introduced the Day of the Dead with colourful drawings, and then Yusuf used music to explain Egyptian celebrations. Their creative ideas impressed everyone. Our Chinese team worked together. Some made paper cuttings, and others told stories about the Mid-Autumn Festival.
We learned important lessons about cultural differences. At a shared meal, Tom accidentally passed food with his left hand. Ahmed kindly explained that this was not polite in his culture. Instead of feeling upset, Tom thanked him. This taught us to respect different customs.
One of the best activities was the “Culture Shock Debate”. Students discussed topics like school uniforms and holiday traditions. Li Mei, who used to be shy about her dialect (方言), confidently and proudly shared the New Year's customs in her country.
By the end of the camp, we understood that learning about different cultures wasn't about being perfect. It was about being open-minded and respectful. As the saying goes, “The world is a book, and those who don't travel read only one page.”

Dear Tom,
It's fantastic to write to you. Life in New Zealand is really amazing. At first, I was a bit nervous as everything was so new, but now I'm getting used to it and even starting to love this place.
One of the most interesting things here is a special way of greeting called “Hongi”. Two people touch their noses and foreheads and close their eyes. This is an old tradition from the Maori (毛利人), who were the first people to live in New Zealand. Even today, many New Zealanders still do this when they meet. It was a bit strange for me at first, but now I find it quite meaningful.
Besides the Hongi, there are other important manners here. Firstly, when dining in New Zealand, it's polite to wait for everyone to be served before starting to eat. Also, keeping your elbows off the table is considered good manners. And if you're at a formal dinner, using cutlery to eat properly is important. People here value these dining manners a lot. Secondly, when you're at a social occasion, respecting personal space is key. People here usually keep a certain distance when talking to others, or they might feel uncomfortable. Also, listening carefully and not interrupting when others are speaking is a sign of good manners.
I hope you can come here someday and experience all these wonderful things yourself.
Best wishes.
Yours,
Julia

A.Julia still finds the “Hongi” greeting strange now.

There are many holidays and festivals in the world. Kids have Children's Day. Dads have Father's Day. Mums have Mother's Day. But do our grandparents have a special festival Yes, they do!
The Double Ninth Festival is a special day for the elderly (老人) in China. It started very long ago. The festival is on lunar (农历的) September 9th. On this day, people show love and respect to their grandparents.
There are many ways in which Chinese people express their respect. When an elder enters a room, everyone stands up. People are introduced from the oldest to the youngest. When we present a thing to an elder, two hands are used. Young people always offer their seats to the elderly on a crowded subway or bus.
Respecting the elderly is a tradition in China. That's because the Chinese know that old people have knowledge and experience that young people can learn. Chinese people are proud of being old.
In Western countries, however, old people seldom think they are old. They are called “seniors” instead of “old people”. They'd rather do everything themselves. After retirement (退休), they take up hobbies, part-time jobs and new activities to keep their bodies working well.
Westerners respect their old people too. Usually, seniors don't have to buy tickets for trains or buses. They are given discounts (折扣) in stores and restaurants. But Western seniors don't often live with their children. They live alone. For holidays, the family usually gather at the grandparents' home, and a great smile and a warm hug for their parents are enough for grown children to show their respect.
68.What can we know about the Double Ninth Festival from the passage
A.It has a long history.
B.It falls on September 9th.
C.It is a festival for family to get together.
D.People around the world celebrate it to show respect to the elderly.
69.What does the underlined word “They” in Paragraph 5 refer to
A.Hobbies. B.Part-time jobs.
C.Western countries. D.The elderly in Western countries.
70.How are Western old people and Chinese old people different
A.Chinese old people live alone.
B.Western people are proud of being old.
C.Western old people don't have to buy tickets for trains.
D.Chinese old people would rather do everything themselves.
71.What does the passage mainly talk about
A.Different ways of China and Western countries treating the elderly.
B.Differences between people in China and Western countries.
C.Why to show respect to old people.
D.Great presents for the elderly.
72.What would be the best structure of the passage
A. B. C. D.

Second, the gift itself matters. When giving flowers to an English person, never give 13 flowers. 75. You can give 10 or 12 instead. If you are in France, don't give wine easily. The French love their own wine. Cheap wine may make them unhappy. 76.
There are also customs for receiving gifts. In China, we thank people for gifts but don't open them right away. 77. But in many other countries, it's common to open gifts at once. Your friend can see if you like it. Later, you can send a thank-you card to your friend. In Japan, people usually receive gifts with two hands to show respect. In India, using your right hand to receive gifts is polite.
One custom is the same around the world:Say “thank you” sincerely. It makes the giver happy.
