Health First, Sports for All
To promote students’ physical and mental health, our school has launched a new sports plan
under the theme “Health First, Sports for All.”
Every student is encouraged to master at least one sport. Class leagues and school leagues
have been organized, and rooftops have been turned into “sky playgrounds” where we jump rope,
play ball, and enjoy climbing activities during breaks. The whole campus is full of energy.
The plan has brought great changes to my classmates. Many have become more energetic and
focused in class. Some who used to avoid exercise now look forward to every break on the
playground. Most importantly, we are developing a lifelong habit of staying active — a true gift
for our health.

One possible version:
I pulled back the curtain and couldn’t believe what I saw. Leo was standing in the pouring
rain, holding a pile of wooden planks. He was completely soaked, but he didn’t seem to notice. He
was building something — not the old treehouse, but a small platform with a roof, stronger and
safer than before. He hammered each nail carefully, measured each plank twice, and wiped rain
from his eyes so he could see. He had never built anything like this in his life. Suddenly, the
hammering from the garage over the past weeks made sense — he had been teaching himself how
to build, just for me.
Filled with guilt and gratitude, I climbed up to see what he had made. The platform was solid,
the roof waterproof. In the center sat a new wooden box, polished smooth. On top of it was a note
in his handwriting: “I should have asked. I’m sorry. I can’t bring back the old one, but I can help
you build a better one. Together.” I thought of how I had locked him out, thrown away his notes,
and whispered “I hate you.” Tears filled my eyes. I walked inside and found Leo drying his hair.
“I'm sorry,” I said. He looked up, surprised. “For what ” “For everything.” He smiled and handed
me a hammer. “Then let’s fix it together.” I nodded, and for the first time in weeks, we sat side by
side — not as enemies, but as brothers.

Text 1
M: Are the kids asleep yet
W: Not at all. They’re still singing and jumping. They can’t wait for the camping trip
tomorrow. (1)
M: Well, I hope they rest soon. We have a long drive in the morning.
Text 2
M: I’ve lost so much weight recently that my pants are falling down.
W: You used to wear size 34. Should I buy you size 32 now
M: I haven’t been size 34 for months. Even size 32 is too big now. (2)
Text 3
W:My new car loan is costing a lot.
M: If you stop eating at restaurants, you can save more cash. (3)
W: I’ve been ordering food delivery daily. That’s definitely my biggest problem. I really have to
cut back.
Text 4
M: There’s an error on my receipt. I didn’t order these drinks.
W: I’m sorry, sir. This record shows you took them from the mini-bar. (4)
M: I never drink alcohol. I want to talk to your boss.
Text 5
M: Our daughter picked up a cat from the street yesterday, and now we can’t find it
anywhere.
W: It’s likely hiding somewhere in the house. Cats don’t usually wander far when they’re
scared. They need a safe place to feel secure. (5)
Text 6
M: Good afternoon. I’m here to register for swimming classes. (7)
W: We have beginner classes and middle-level classes. For more experienced swimmers, we
also have advanced training. (6)
M: I can already swim quite well. What is the advanced training (6)
W: People use this program to improve their technique over several months. (6)
M: That sounds perfect. (6) I want to prepare for a competition next year. (7)
W: Great. We’ll just need your ID card and a recent health certificate.
M: Here’s my card. I’m afraid I don’t have my health certificate with me, though.
W: I’m so sorry. We’ll need that to complete your registration.
Text 7
M: Excuse me, Miss. I’ve got an issue with this smart watch my wife bought for me. (8)
W:What seems to be the problem, sir (8)
M: The battery life is too short. It dies after only 4 hours of hiking. (8)
W: That is strange. Usually, this model lasts 12 hours. Do you keep the GPS tracking on all the time
M: Yes, I need to track my route. But 4 hours is not enough for my long hikes.
W: I see. GPS uses a lot of power. Maybe you should switch to a professional hiking watch. It has a
larger battery. (9)
M: Is that the one with the solar charger That might be too heavy.
W:Actually, we have a lightweight model.Would you like to see the hiking series (9)
M:Yes, please. I need something reliable for the mountains. (9)
W: Follow me. I’ll show you to the wearable technology section.
Text 8
M: Look at this long line! We will never get inside. We’ve already been waiting for 20 minutes.
W: Don’t worry. The band doesn’t begin playing until later.
2
M: But I want to find a good seat before the lights go down.
W: Relax. Our seats are reserved. We are in row F.
M: Oh, right. By the way, exactly when does the performance start
W: It is scheduled for 8:00 pm.We still have 30 minutes. (12) Good thing we left early.
M: I brought some chips in my backpack in case we get hungry. I also have drinks — what flavor
do you want
W: You know eating is not allowed inside. Plus, they have free drinking water available inside. You
can’t take that bag in.
M: What should I do I don’t want to walk back to the car.
W: They have a bag check near the entrance. (13)
M: Fine, I’ll go drop it off there now. (13)
W: Great, I’ll hold our place in line. Don’t take too long!
Text 9
W: Good afternoon, Mr. Jones. Can you tell me something about your experience in this field
M: Well, for several years, I worked at City Hospital in Chicago, taking care of patients and
getting along well with them. (14) It helped me develop a strong sense of responsibility. Now
I work part-time because I am taking evening classes.
W: Oh, how interesting. Tell me, why do you want to leave your present job
M: The frequent night shifts have been affecting my health, and I’ve developed a few issues
because of it. That’s why I’m looking for a change. (15)
W:And why would you like to work for our nursing home
M: Because I know you have a great reputation.
W: Could you please tell me about your special skills
M: Of course, I’m good with the elderly, and I lived in Berlin for two years, so I can speak the
local language. (16)
W: Can you give me any references
M: Certainly. You can talk to Dr. Smith, my manager.
W: OK. Would you like to ask me any questions
M: Yes, I wonder if there is a parking lot for staff.
W: Yes, we have a garage in the back. Thank you for coming.
Text 10
We stand at a crucial point in our city’s development. We have for a long time known of the
problems with traffic jams, but sadly little action has been taken to address them. However, we
have listened to our citizens’ concerns across all neighborhoods, and we have chosen to act and
make difficult decisions. We have decided to start charging for downtown parking in 2027.
Businesses will have one year to get ready for the change from free parking to paid parking,
which will help reduce traffic. (19) In addition, our city will introduce a public bike program. It
will allow residents to rent bicycles at various stations throughout the city at low cost. We see this
as an urgent action that needs to be taken. We cannot put convenience ahead of our city’s ability to
move freely. For too long, the areas that are most crowded have been ignored. Well, no more! In
addition, we will also be expanding bus routes by 2028. Unless we can find better funding, we
will need to increase bus ticket prices slightly. They can easily serve more neighborhoods
with little impact on the environment. (20) Traffic has taken over our daily lives, and we need to
address it urgently before it stops our city’s economy completely.
