Possible version:
Dear Principal,
I hope this letter finds you well. Learning that our school will arrange a labour base beside the school library, I am excited to share my plan.
I suggest dividing the base into seasonal zones, with classes taking weekly turns to grow vegetables and care for the plants. Meanwhile, teachers can provide hands-on guidance, linking biology to practice. There are two main reasons behind this plan. Firstly, it fosters a strong sense of responsibility and teamwork. More importantly, it bridges classroom learning with real-world application, deepening students’ understanding of agricultural science and environmental sustainability.
I sincerely hope my ideas can be of some help. I am looking forward to seeing our labour base come to life.
Yours,
Li Hua

参考范文
Paragraph 1:
The forest ranger came out of the bushes. He quickly assessed the situation. Without a word, he knelt beside me, inspected the wire trap with a practiced eye, and gently felt my swollen ankle. “Don’t move,” he said softly, his voice steady and reassuring. From his pack, he pulled out a pair of heavy-duty wire cutters and a small first-aid kit. He explained that the trap was designed to tighten with movement, and careful precision was needed to avoid causing further injury. As he positioned the cutters, we all held our breath, the only sound being the rhythmic click of the tool against the stubborn wire.
Paragraph 2:
The wire animal trap was finally removed. Relieved and thankful, I stared at my bruised ankle. The ranger swiftly cleaned and bandaged the wound, warning me not to put weight on it. He then helped me to my feet, supporting me as we began the slow descent. Along the way, he emphasized the importance of staying on marked trails and carrying proper safety gear. His kindness and expertise turned a near-disaster into a profound lesson. As we reached the forest entrance at dusk, I not only felt gratitude for the rescue, but also a renewed respect for nature and its unseen guardians.

Text 1
M: Okay, that’s five shirts, two pairs of shorts, three pairs of trousers...(1) And I’ll bring my math book. I think we can do some revision on the train.
W: Really I thought this was meant to be a break!
M: We can relax when we get there!
Text 2
M: Melanie, do you want to come over to my house to work on our school project together
W: Sure. We’ll need a bit of space, though. Is your house big enough
M: Probably not. It’s a small apartment.
W: Mine is the same. (2) Let’s go to the library.
Text 3
M: Gardening is a relaxing thing that connects you with nature.
W: I’d love to garden, but I don’t have enough room in my apartment. (3)
M: Actually, even small indoor plants can be very rewarding.
Text 4
M: I wish winter would end soon. We’ve had nothing but cold and darkness for months. (4)
W: Don’t worry. It’ll start getting brighter next week.
M: You know me. I realized how much it affected my mood. (4)
W: I know. I’m really looking forward to summer.
Text 5
M: Every time I try to solve this question, I get confused.
W: Let’s go through it step by step when the other students have left. (5) You are smart, and both your parents and I think so. You just need to check your work.
M: Thanks!
Text 6
W: I wanted to tell you something at this meeting, but I forgot what it was. By the time I tried to write those ideas down, they were already gone!
M: That’s why you should try this AI voice assistant app. It’s available in many different languages and voice styles. Just say whatever you’re thinking, and it’ll instantly put them into notes that can be saved. (6)
W: That sounds great! What else can you use it for
M: Reminders, organizing tasks, scheduling events, etc. Whatever your issue, it can help. For me, I always think I have more hours left in the day than I do. So, this app reminds me of deadlines and remaining periods for tasks. (7)
Text 7
W: We don’t have much money left for furniture.
M: Yeah. I guess we’ll have to make some decisions.
W: We really need a new sofa bed. Your uncle is coming to town next month. We can’t expect him to sleep on the current one with his bad back. (8)
M: Do you think he’ll understand if we can’t host him this time We’ve only just moved in!
W: Don’t be silly. I’m not sending an old man to a hotel! (8)
M: But if we spend 3500 on a sofa bed, that’s half our budget gone.
W: Well, he can have our bed, and we’ll take the old sofa. (9)
M: Good idea. But, even in that case, we still need to fix the broken floor, which will cost 4000 according to the workman, and that’s urgent.
W: Fine. Will that leave us enough to buy a table and chairs
M: I’m sure we can find something online. (10)
Text 8
M: Welcome! It’s such a joy to have you on my show! Can you believe it’s been five years since we graduated (11)
W: I know! Time flies! We first met as freshmen and shared four amazing years in college. (11) I’m glad I can finally come to your show!
M: Yes, finally. You’re a tough person to schedule with all your movies, series, and programs.
W: Luckily, my schedule is open, so I can finally accept your invitation.
M: So, what got you interested in acting
W: I tried out for the theater program, and something clicked.
M: What is the biggest benefit of acting
W: So many things! I get to travel, learn about cultures, and push my limits. But above all, I love stepping into different roles. I get a chance to experience someone else’s lives and feelings. This makes me more caring. (12)
M: What would you say to young actors starting out (13)
W: You can study films and listen to experienced actors, but nothing beats doing acting exercises with fellow actors. (13) Being around people who love acting is the best way to grow.
Text 9
M: Hi! I saw you working with the students. Are you a teacher here
W: No, I’m just a visitor donating my time. I was introduced by a local charity organization.
M: That’s amazing! I’m so glad to meet you.
W: Me too! What brought you to Cambodia
M: I was planning to visit Vietnam and just passed through here. (15) I didn’t know much about Cambodia beforehand, but now I really love the culture. Are you a teacher back home
W: No, I was originally invited to assist teachers, but many kids stay after school doing homework and asking for help. So I mainly help in the evenings instead. (16)
M: And how did you get into this
W: I traveled quite often and joined a platform called Workaway. They have work exchange programs for travelers and volunteers all over the world.
M: How cool!
W: Yes. I originally wanted to get free places to stay by exchanging work. (17) But now, I plan to continue doing this every summer until I retire. I’ve had many unexpected gains.
M: That’s so inspiring!
W: Come inside! I’d love to introduce you to some students.
Text 10
Welcome, everyone! I am honored to guide you through this workshop. I used to measure success only by achieving personal goals — earning money, getting promotions, or buying nice things. But that failed to make me a happy person. (18) As a wise man once said, some rich people are so poor that all they have is money. That described me. The real transformation happened when I learned to give more—my time, kindness, and attention. That shift changed my life forever. So today we’re here to discover how giving can bring more meaning and joy into our lives. (19) In today’s activity, you won’t just be watching; you’ll be partnering with others from the audience. Each person will share a specific idea that can help someone. (20) Together, you’ll brainstorm practical ways to bring these ideas to life. Then, whichever groups feel brave and inspired may choose to join me on stage to present their ideas and plans to the audience. We’ll begin by thinking about a time when someone’s kindness helped you. Remember how it made you feel and consider how you can do the same for someone else. Let’s get started!

When Marco settled into his seat on the train to Xi’an, he pulled out the Chinese phrasebook he had been studying for months. The 22-year-old Italian had dreamed of visiting China since childhood. Now, with a degree in art history, he was finally following in Marco Polo’s footsteps.
His first week in Xi’an was overwhelming. The Terracotta Warriors left him breathless, but the city’s Muslim Quarter, with its food stalls and the scent of cumin, felt like home. Watching a noodle-puller skillfully stretch dough into thin strands, Marco found himself enthralled. The old man, grinning warmly, handed him a bowl. “Mian tiao hao chi,” Marco said, uttering his first complete sentence in Chinese. When the old man laughed and patted his shoulder, Marco felt he had found something that he hadn’t known he was looking for.
Three months later, Marco was teaching Italian at a local university. Yet his real education took place after dark, when he sat with the noodle-puller, Uncle Chen. Though Uncle Chen spoke no Italian and Marco’s Chinese remained far from fluent, they communicated through gestures, laughter, and food. Uncle Chen taught Marco to pull noodles, while Marco taught Uncle Chen to make coffee.
One evening, Uncle Chen noticed Marco’s untouched bowl. Marco’s contract was ending, and his parents were pressuring him to return. “Maybe it’s time to go home,” he said. Uncle Chen stood up, returned with dough, and began to pull — slower than usual. He placed the noodles in Marco’s hands. “This street has my noodles for thirty years. Now it has your coffee,” he said. “You think Marco Polo ever got home He did. But he came back.”
Marco stayed. He opened a small café next to Uncle Chen’s shop. On the wall hangs a photograph of the two of them, flour and coffee stains on their aprons, arms around each other. Beneath it, in Italian and Chinese: Some journeys don’t end. They just find a new path.
24. Why did Marco go to Xi’an
A. To learn Chinese. B. To fulfill his dream.
C. To teach Italian. D. To open a coffee shop.
25. What does the underlined word “enthralled” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Amused. B. Confused. C. Fascinated. D. Disappointed.
26. What did Uncle Chen imply by saying “He did. But he came back ”
A. Marco should return to Italy.
B. Marco should obey his parents.
C. Marco could find a new home here.
D. Marco could renew his contract.
27. What does Marco’s experience in Xi’an mainly show
A. Home is where the heart is.
B. A friend in need is a friend indeed.
C. East or west, home is best.
D. When in Rome, do as the Romans do.
C
Most people can see at least a million different colors. Colors often act as signs, communicating means even when we don’t notice them.
As living creatures developed vision and became able to distinguish colors, fruits began using bright colors to attract animals to spread their seeds. Flowers developed bright colors to attract pollinators, while poisonous animals used bold shades as warnings. In each case, color serves a specific evolutionary purpose — either to draw in or to drive away.
Humans have also evolved to use these signs. Color tells us when fruits are ripe enough to eat. We’ve also developed our own color signals: red traffic lights warn of danger, and electrical wires use different colors to indicate safe connections. These human-made signals borrow from nature’s principle — color conveys meaning quickly and efficiently, often beyond language.
Colors can also serve as signifiers (信号物) in more complex ways. Food products are sometimes labeled with red, yellow or green based on nutritional content, borrowing from traffic signals. Consumer brands use colors in their logos and advertising to communicate their values. Luxury goods often use dark, intense colors as a mark of quality, while children’s products use bold, bright colors. The psychology of color has become a complicated field of study, with companies investing heavily in determining which shades will trigger the desired emotional responses from consumers. Studies show people are less likely to buy products branded with inappropriate colors. A luxury watch brand using neon pink would confuse its audience and overlook its elegant image. This suggests that the meanings of color, while powerful, are culturally constructed and context-dependent.
Whether human-made or natural, and whether we consciously notice them or not, colors tell us a lot about the world around us. They are, in many ways, a universal language — one that has been shaped by millions of years of evolution and thousands of years of human culture.
28. What is the main function of color according to paragraph 2
A. To make nature diverse. B. To set creatures apart.
C. To show a sign of harvest. D. To be a means of survival.
29. How does the author develop paragraph 3
A. By listing reasons. B. By giving examples.
C. By making a contrast. D. By presenting a phenomenon.
30. What can be inferred about the use of color in marketing
A. Colors carry their unique meanings.
B. Bright colors generally beat dark ones.
C. Consumers prefer status-matching colors.
D. Companies fully grasp the influence of colors.
31. Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A. What Colors Mean: From Warnings to Attractions
B. How Colors Change: From Nature to Human Society
C. Why Colors Matter: From Evolution to Cultural Meaning
D. Where Colors Exist: From Biology to Commercial Designs
D
Recently, a mock job advertisement is released online, seeking a “killswitch engineer” for OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT. The description requires the successful applicant to stand by servers all day and unplug them “if this thing turns on us.” Useful skills include the ability to “throw a bucket of water on the servers, too. Just in case.”
Despite widespread fears of job losses owing to the rise of artificial-intelligence (AI) agents, it is not entirely pessimistic. Actually, the technology is creating new roles — to train AI agents, integrate them into organizations, and ensure that they behave appropriately. Many of these new positions, moreover, require unique human skills.
Consider data annotators (标注者). No longer are they merely low-paid gig (字节) workers tagging images. As AI models advance, experts in finance, law, and medicine are increasingly employed to help train them. Mercor, a startup that hires specialists to help build AI systems, was recently valued at $10 billion. Its chief executive reports that these experts earn $90 per hour on average, which is much higher than before.
The nature of software engineering itself is changing. Palsule, chief executive of a skills-development company, uses Waymo, a robotaxi company, as an example of how the job of a developer is evolving. Waymo’s cars drive themselves from start to finish, but what happens when they break down, locking passengers inside This requires what he calls “the person in the sky” — a remote human fixer who must understand both the technology and how to handle anxious passengers. Software engineers were once valued for coding abilities alone, Palsule explains, but writing code can now be done by algorithms (算法).
Additionally, organizations need specialists to establish rules ensuring AI systems don’t cause problems. The AI Workforce Consortium, a research group led by Cisco, recently examined IT jobs across wealthy countries. The fastest-growing position, even surpassing AI programmers, was AI risk-and-governance specialists, who ensure that AI systems don’t leak data or cause operational failures.
32. What is the “killswitch engineer” in paragraph 1
A. A person monitoring servers for safety.
B. An engineer who repairs broken servers.
C. A robot that assists in operating servers.
D. An expert training robots to avoid danger.
33. What can we learn about data annotators
A. They are hired for advancing AI.
B. They are the most in-demand online.
C. They are employed to train AI experts.
D. They are responsible for image-tagging.
34. Which opinion is Palsule most likely to agree with
A. Self-driving cars create new challenges for drivers.
B. Software engineers with human skills are preferred.
C. Software engineering now focuses more on maintenance.
D. Coding skills are less important than communication skills.
35. What is the author’s main purpose in writing the text
A. To compare job roles.
B. To prove AI’s development.
C. To introduce AI-created jobs.
D. To show AI’s threat to humans.

Vacation in a sustainable manner
Vacationing in a sustainable manner starts from your planning. Vacationing can be busy and inconveniences occur. If you are not careful, your vacation may turn out to be more harmful than you intended. The only way to avoid messing up everything is to be armed with some essential knowledge.
Write a packing list and go for sustainable products while you’re at it. Using a shopping list helps account for everything you will need. Do not put yourself under pressure when you step into the store. 36
If a park says no to feeding wildlife, simply avoid feeding them. 37 If parks allowed every person to feed animals, chances of the animals dying from food poisoning are high. Attain sustainability by keeping the laws and respecting those in charge. We also protect our lives from potential danger when we follow the set guidelines.
One key aspect of sustainability is the ability of humanity to coexist with nature. 38 For instance, the Indigenous communities in the Amazon are a part of the forest’s life. Respecting their culture and appreciating their contribution will be the best approach to take.
39 The sustainable option you choose may seem absurd or unachievable to another person. However, sharing your experience may just help other people have different perspectives. For instance, spending a night at an off-grid cottage might seem boring to someone else. However, sharing the experience and explaining your idea to your friends may get them to appreciate it.
There is no one rule that fits all scenarios when it comes to sustainable vacationing. 40 However, it all starts with the intention to keep our earth healthy for our future.
A. Most people are not sustainability conscious.
B. This has been possible in some communities for years.
C. It’s a wide field and this article barely scratches the surface.
D. First get the shopping list right when shopping for supplies.
E. Unfortunately, some practices may be out of reach for individuals.
F. Simply read the labels and avoid products with a high carbon footprint.
G. Most times, what we interpret as affection for wildlife puts them at risk.

It was an exciting trekking through the jungles. Our team of four, all hiking enthusiasts, set off early in the morning, aiming to conquer the peak at over 1,500 meters above sea level. The air was fresh, and the dense trees formed a green cover above us. After two hours of hiking, we reached an altitude of 1,000 meters. The path grew steeper and wilder, with thick undergrowth covering hidden dangers. Just then, we encountered a forest ranger (护林员) who reminded us to watch our steps carefully. Eager to press on, I led the way, ignoring the faint sense of unease that had settled over the group as the trail seemed to disappear into the vines and roots.
Suddenly, as I stepped over a fallen log, a sharp pain shot through my right ankle, which was caught in a hidden wire animal trap, likely left by illegal hunters years ago. The more I struggled, the tighter the thin wire bit into my flesh. Panic spread through the group. My friends tried to get it open with a multitool, but the wire was stubbornly strong. Lisa’s hands were shaking badly, so she had to lay her tool down. Mark, usually our calm leader, kept muttering, “Let me think.” but his face turned pale.
Twenty minutes passed. My foot grew numb and swollen from the cut-off circulation, turning a frightening purple color. Each failed attempt and every minute that ticked by deepened our sense of helplessness. Desperation hung heavy in the air. We were miles from any signal, and no one knew what to do. The once-inviting forest now felt like a silent prison.
Just as hope began to fade, a new sound cut through our despair — the distinct and cautious sound of footsteps approaching from behind the dense bushes.
