Evan Shiu, a young boy from New York, has found a meaningful way to spend his summers: volunteering as a
youth soccer coach in his community.
Evan has had a passion (酷爱) for soccer since childhood. He wanted to share his love for the game with others,
so he decided to teach younger kids in his community, especially those who might not have a chance to try it.
Over the past two summers, Evan's main task has been coaching soccer. He also helps with other activities like
handing out free lunches and helping with arts and crafts (手工艺). The best part for him is seeing the kids smile
and have fun on the field. "It makes me really happy," he says. Through these activities, he has made many new
friends.
Coaching isn't always easy. Sometimes the kids get tired or lose focus. To deal with this, Evan either asks
adults for help or explains the rules of the game in a simple way. He also encourages them by telling them they're
doing a good job whenever they try.
Evan believes volunteering has helped him grow. "I've become more confident and responsible," he says. "It
has also taught me how to work well with others."
For kids who want to start volunteering, Evan gives them some advice: Find something you truly love doing,
and stick with it. When you enjoy what you're doing, helping others feels even better.

Have you ever visited Baiyangdian in Hebei Province Do you know why people call it the "kidney (肾) of the
North China Plain (平原)" Covering about 366 square kilometers with over 140 lakes, it is the largest freshwater
wetland in northern China. It plays a very important role in improving the environment in the area.
After many years of hard work, Baiyangdian is now in a much healthier state. Now, it is home to about 200
different kinds of birds. In summer, lots of birds fly here. "We see more birds and clearer water than ever before,"
said a villager.
However, this beautiful place once faced serious problems. About forty years ago, it often suffered from water
shortages (短缺), and the water became dirty because of polluting factories and too much fish farming. To save
Baiyangdian, the local government took strong action. They shut down more than 20 polluting factories around it.
They also built wastewater treatment stations in nearby villages to treat the sewage (污水) before it entered the
wetland. What's more, they provided over 5,000 fish farmers with new jobs and stopped fishing in the lakes to
protect the water quality.
As a key part of the Xiongan New Area, Baiyangdian's environmental protection is of great importance. To
achieve this goal, there are plans to plant more trees around it and bring in more clean water from other places.
These efforts show that with good care and smart planning, the environment can be improved a lot. Such
achievements offer a model for a bright and lasting future where humans and nature can live well together.
62. Why do people call Baiyangdian the "kidney of the North China Plain"
A. Because it's shaped like a kidney on the map.
B. Because it is a popular place for swimming and fishing.
C. Because it can provide freshwater for the villages nearby.
D. Because it's very important for the environmental improvement in the area.
63. What does the villager mean by saying the underlined words
A. The water quality has become worse in recent years.
B. The increasing number of birds is becoming a problem.
C. The environment of Baiyangdian has greatly improved now.
D. Raising more birds and fish can help him make more money.
64. What's the writer trying to do in the text
A. List scientific facts about the wetland.
B. Ask people to protect the natural environment.
C. Encourage more tourists to visit Baiyangdian.
D. Show how human activities harmed the wetland.
65. Where is the text most probably from
A. A diary. B. A novel. C. A newspaper. D. A storybook.
D
You've made New Year's resolutions (新年计划) — maybe to learn the guitar, read more books, or get fit.
But achieving New Year's resolutions isn't easy. A study shows that fewer than 25% of Americans stick to their
resolutions after one month, and fewer than 10% finally achieve them. So, how can we make these good habits
last
The most important way to form a habit is repetition. That means doing the same action in the same situation
over and over again. For example, if you want to start running, do it every morning before breakfast.
Have a consistent (一贯的) "cue". A cue is something that reminds you to act. For example, after you get
dressed in the morning, put on your running shoes right away. This creates a strong connection between the cue
and the action in your mind, which makes it easier to turn into a habit.
Planning also helps. A study found that up to 70% of missed goals are missed because people just forget to do
them. So be specific about when, where and how you will perform the habit. For example, instead of saying, "I'll
exercise," say, "I'll do 15 minutes of yoga in the living room at 7 a.m."
Another good suggestion for forming habits is to focus on small, simple things first. Drinking a full glass of
water every morning is easier to turn into a habit than going to the gym daily, for example. But once you succeed
in smaller habits, you can build on them.
In short, the key to sticking with good habits is to put the advice into practice: start now, make good habits
routine (惯例), and never give up.
66. What percent of Americans failed to achieve their New Year's resolutions
A. Fewer than 25%. B. More than 75%. C. Fewer than 10%. D. More than 90%.
67. How does the writer support his idea
A. By telling stories. B. By giving examples. C. By asking questions. D. By listing numbers.
68. What does the underlined word "specific" in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A. Clear. B. Careful. C. Serious. D. Nervous.
69. What is the structure (结构) of the text (① = Paragraph 1, …)
A.①②/③④/⑤⑥
B.①/②③④⑤/⑥
C.①②③/④⑤/⑥
D.①/②③④⑤⑥
70. What is the best title for the text
A. The Importance of Developing Habits
B. Reasons for Failing to Form Habits
C. Ways of Forming Lasting Habits
D. Suggestions on Achieving Success
第二节 阅读表达(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分)
阅读下面短文,简略回答问题。
Giving a presentation in class can be challenging, but good preparation will help you succeed. Here is some
useful advice for you.
Plan your presentation well. First, learn about your topic well. Then, write down the main ideas on note cards.
These cards are for reminders, so don't write every word. Finally, practice your speech at home. You can practice
in front of a mirror or ask your family to listen and give you suggestions.
Get ready on the day of your presentation. Arrive at the classroom a few minutes early to relax. Before you
start, smile at your classmates. A smile can make you and others feel more comfortable. When you speak, try to
make eye contact with everyone in the classroom. This shows you are confident and helps everyone feel included.
Deliver (发表) your presentation clearly. Speak slowly and loudly so that everyone can hear you. You can use
body language sometimes to make your ideas clearer. Show your own interest in the topic — this will help keep
your audience interested. If you feel nervous, remember that your classmates are your friends. Just talk to them in
a natural way, like you usually do. If your teacher or classmates have questions, answer them as well as you can.
Then, walk back to your seat with a smile. Be proud of what you have done. Remember, each time you practice
and prepare well, you will do better.

We use the farm to learn different subjects in many of our classes. On Tuesdays, we have a biology class. We
study different parts of plants. Then, on Wednesdays, we have an art class by the farm. We draw pictures of our
plants. We write poems about the plants on the farm in our Chinese class on Thursdays.
Sometimes we take pictures of our plants. We put those pictures on our school website. Working on the farm
teaches us about nature. The class farm is a good place for learning.

Hi, everyone. Attention, please. Let's talk about our group task — making a blackboard newspaper. We
need to finish it by next Friday.
There are four members in our group, and everyone will join in the work. As the group leader, I'll give you
different jobs. Jean, you need to think of ideas first. Ben, you're good at drawing, so please draw the pictures with
colored chalks. Kate, you can write the stories and I'll copy them on the blackboard.
Remember, this is teamwork. If anyone has any difficulty, just speak up so we can solve it together. We may be
busy, but let's try to work on it after school. I'm sure we can make a great blackboard newspaper. If we do our best,
all the teachers and classmates will like it. OK, let's get started!
