One Small Change, a Big Difference
My friend Li Ming used to be shy and never joined any class discussion. This made him feel lonely and his grades dropped. Then he made a small but brave change: he decided to speak once every day.
At first, his voice was low, but he kept trying. He prepared one simple idea for each class and raised his hand. After a week, his answers got better. His teachers noticed and encouraged him. His classmates started to talk to him more. This small action completely changed him.
From Li Ming's story, I learned that a tiny step can lead to great progress. We shouldn't be afraid to change because even a small effort can make a big difference in our lives.2026年云南省初中学业水平考试模拟卷

Puer Tea: A Gift from Yunnan
Puer tea, named after Puer City in Yunnan Province, is a famous kind of fermented (发酵的) tea with a long history of over 1,700 years. It was an important trade good on the Ancient Tea-Horse Road, which connected Yunnan with Tibet and other parts of Asia.
There are two main types of Puer tea: raw (生茶) and ripe (熟茶). Raw Puer has a strong, bitter taste that becomes smoother over time. Ripe Puer, created using a special 40-60 day fermentation process in the 1970s, has a gentle, earthy flavor (味道) and a dark red color.
Many people love Puer tea not only for its taste but also for its health benefits. It is believed to help lower cholesterol and aid digestion. Puer tea can be stored for many years, and like fine wine, its value and flavor often improve with age. Some very old, well-kept Puer teas are considered treasures.
Today, Puer tea is loved by tea drinkers around the world. It is not just a drink, but a symbol of Yunnan's rich culture and history. When you enjoy a cup of Puer tea, you are tasting a piece of Chinese heritage.

On May 21st, 2024, a Chinese boy named Zhou Yuxuan became the youngest person to reach the summit (顶峰) of Mount Everest from the Nepal side. He was only 16 years old. This amazing achievement not only broke a record but also showed the world the spirit of Chinese youth.
Zhou's journey to the top of the world was not easy. He began training at a young age, climbing high mountains in his home province of Sichuan. He prepared for the Everest climb for two whole years, which included running 15 kilometers daily, strength training, and learning how to survive in extreme cold.
His team faced many dangers: strong winds, icy slopes, and the "death zone" — the area above 8,000 meters where oxygen is very low. Zhou experienced serious headaches and felt extremely tired. But he never thought of giving up. "My legs felt like stones, but my dream was pulling me forward," Zhou said after returning safely.
When he finally stood on the top of the world (8,848.86 meters), he planted a Chinese flag and a flag of his school. He left a photo of his grandfather, who passed away last year, under a pile of stones. "My grandpa always told me to be brave. I wanted to show him that his grandson did it," Zhou explained.

In the heart of Yunnan, scientists are working on something that sounds like magic: turning a common plant into a material stronger than steel but lighter than plastic. This wonder material is called "Yunmu" (Cloud Wood), inspired by Yunnan's nickname "Cloudy South of the Silk Road".
The process is surprisingly simple and environment-friendly. First, researchers take fast-growing poplar wood (白杨木), commonly seen in Yunnan's forests. This wood is put into a special chemical bath that removes one of its natural components (成分), lignin (木质素). Lignin is what makes wood brown and relatively soft.
What remains is a white, porous (多孔的) "wood sponge (海绵)". This sponge is then compressed (压缩) under high heat and pressure, which is about five times the pressure used to make common iron. After this treatment, a miracle happens: the original piece of wood shrinks to one-fifth of its starting thickness, and its fibers (纤维) become super tightly packed.
The final result is Yunmu. This new material has remarkable abilities. It is three times harder than ordinary wood and can stop a fast-moving small object like a bullet. Even more interesting, it can support up to 5,000 times its own weight without breaking. Because the lignin is removed, Yunmu is also fire-resistant (阻燃的). If you hold a flame to it for a minute, it will only blacken slightly and won't catch fire.
The development of Yunmu is a great example of technological innovation in China. It promises a future where we can build stronger, safer, and greener structures using renewable resources from our own beautiful province.
36. What is the first step to make the Yunmu
A. Compressing the wood under high pressure. B. Taking poplar wood from forests.
C. Removing lignin in a chemical bath. D. Drying the wood in high heat.
37. How thick is the Yunmu compared to the original poplar wood
A. It's one-fifth the original thickness. B. It's the same thickness.
C. It's five times thicker. D. It's 5,000 times thicker.
38. Which of the following is a special ability of Yunmu
A. It burns very easily. B. It can be shaped like a sponge.
C. It is weak and breaks easily. D. It is fire-resistant and bullet-stopping.
39. How does the writer support the main idea of the last paragraph
A. By listing numbers. B. By comparing with other materials.
C. By explaining its future value. D. By telling a personal story.
40. What is the best title for the text
A. Yunnan's Natural Forests B. The History of Poplar Wood
C. Future Renewable Resources D. Yunmu: A Wonder Material from Yunnan
