Moving house is a big and emotional business. So when a whole group of Asian elephants made a historic move from Melbourne to Werribee this week, they shared a moving reunion as they explored their new world-class habitat for the first time. The elephants trumpeted (吼叫) as they appeared from their air-conditioned trucks to take their first steps in their new home. They also touched each other and moved their ears, showing excitement and a strong social connection. The elephants wasted no time getting acquainted with their new playgrounds.
Werribee Open Range Zoo zookeeper Lucy Truelson said it was inspiring to see the elephants explore their new habitat, following years of careful planning to reach this groundbreaking moment. “They are celebrating and really enjoying their new surroundings,” Ms Truelson said. “They’re playing, exploring the landscape and they’ve slept beautifully. All these things show us that they’re happy. This is everything we hoped for.”
The elephant path is designed to put animal benefit first with an unmatched visitor experience. There are six large habitats with playgrounds. The area is the same size as Melbourne Zoo’s full footprint. It also includes two big pools that together hold nearly two million liters of water and offer about 1,300 square meters of swimming space. Two specially designed elephant barns include a sleeping area filled with 3,300 tonnes of sand. Two overpasses will allow the elephants to cross over visitor walking paths, allowing the elephants to move between habitats.
With the elephants’ benefit the top thing for keepers, Ms Truelson was sure that visitors will have to wait a few more weeks. Werribee has never before had so many elephants in its 41-year history and making it happen was a huge job including a 21-person keeper team.

B. The elephants fear to see visitors.
C. The zoo will give visitors a big surprise.
D. The zoo has to make full preparations.

A quiet AI revolution is unfolding in China’s countryside. In provinces like Jilin, Yunnan and Hubei, farmers are turning to AI to save their crops from flooding and disease. China is showing the world a different roadmap of AI’s path forward.
Free AI services in China fuel mass adoption. DeepSeek’s integration into WeChat caused a traffic surge, absorbed by Tencent’s Yuanbao, whose DAU (Daily Active Users) jumped 20 times in two months. AI now rapidly integrates into daily life, reaching vast rural populations at scale.
By making AI tools free and accessible through platforms like WeChat, China has opened the floodgates to grassroots adoption. Chinese companies have prioritized scale. And that scale is surprising: Nearly 300 million farmers, representing 20% of the national population, are potential AI users.
In one Hubei village, weeks of heavy rain threatened to destroy rice fields. Consequently, farmers turned to Yuanbao. The chatbot recommended building embankments and switching to high-ridge planting — the advice arrives instantly, tailored to specific problems and images uploaded by farmers with little formal education.
AI is inserted into everyday life in China. For Chinese farmers, the benefits are real and immediate. For many, AI is no longer a futuristic idea but a daily tool. While China’s rural AI surge is impressive, it faces challenges of its own. AI researchers found that most farmers didn’t know how to pose useful questions to AI chatbots unless prompted by local officials. Educational gaps remain a barrier: Even when farmers receive answers, they might not understand the technical terms involved. Without a closed loop of comprehension and action, the benefits of AI can’t be fully realized.
Researchers also stress that making AI useful for the farmers as well as elders will require more than a stylish UX and bigger models. It urgently demands simplified responses, voice interfaces and solutions tailored to real-world conditions.
8. What resulted from DeepSeek’s integration into WeChat?
A. Free AI services in China became available.
B. Tencent’s Yuanbao saw a rapid increase in users.
C. Farmers in Hubei doubled their rice production.
D. The number of WeChat users dropped significantly.
9. What do the underlined words “opened the floodgates to” mean in paragraph 3?
A. Blocked the way of. B. Tested the limits of.
C. Increased the cost of. D. Allowed widespread entry of.
10. What will the researchers most probably do next?
A. Develop larger AI models. B. Expand AI access to more cities.
C. Provide simplified practical instructions. D. Teach farmers to understand technical terms.
11. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. AI companies profit greatly from rural users.
B. AI has solved all farming problems in China.
C. Farmers prefer traditional methods to AI technology.
D. China’s rural AI holds promise but faces challenges.

Even though using dyes (染料) to develop lenses (镜片) for glasses to correct colorblindness is not novel, these 3D-printed glasses seem to break fresh ground. Researchers at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi have made a very special set of glasses that allows colorblind people to view the world in color. The lenses of the eyewear are printed with a semi-transparent resin (树脂), which is mixed with dyes. The result is a set of lenses that can adjust colors according to what the user sees.
There’s a wide range of color vision deficiencies (CVDs). The most common type of them is red-green blindness, where people cannot distinguish between both. The 3D-printed eyeglasses help block and distribute the color as the eye sees it, allowing the brain to send better signals to make out the colors. Two different dyes were used during printing — one blocked the undesired wavelengths for red-green patients and the other occluded those unwanted for yellow-blue patients. In the test, their eyesight was effectively corrected.
The research team tested their product against other commercially-available solutions. The team found that their glasses were more selective at blocking different shades. Thanks to the tailored nature of 3D printing, the glasses can be adapted and customized to anyone’s face shape and degree of colorblindness. 3D printing was also chosen as a means to keep the glasses smooth and comfortable on the wearer’s face. However, as 3D-printing ink can be poisonous, the glasses were left to dip in water for a week to test their durability (耐久性). The team found afterward that there wasn’t any leakage (泄露) of the dyes, proving their permanence and safety.
A pair of 3D-printed glasses may not sound revolutionary, but to some people with colorblindness, they could paint a whole new world in color. They will help colorblind people manage the challenges of their daily activities, making their lives easier.
12. What is special about the 3D-printed glasses?
A. They only work for red-green colorblindness.
B. Dyes are first used in lenses to deal with CVDs.
C. They can adjust colors based on the users’ vision.
D. They are made from transparent resin with no dyes.
13. What does the underlined word “occluded” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Removed. B. Absorbed. C. Delivered. D. Corrected.
14. What does the third paragraph mainly talk about?
A. The original inspiration behind 3D-printed glasses.
B. The commercial potential of 3D-printing technology.
C. The advantages of using 3D-printing for making glasses.
D. The technical challenges in producing 3D-printed glasses.
15. What is the best title of the text?
A. Novel Dyes: Revolutionizing Color Vision.
B. 3D Printing: Bringing Color to the Colorblind.
C. 3D-Printed Glasses: A Cure for Colorblindness.
D. 3D-Printed Glasses: A Blessing for Colorblindness.

Maria and Peter lived in a coastal city. The greatest pleasure in summer for them was to swim at their local beach after school. But one day they started to lose their enthusiasm for swimming in the waters. More often than not, they would find plastic bags thrown on the beach. Worse sill, as they swam in the water, some plastic bags would float around them and even stick to their legs when they walked to the shore.
They were upset and decided something needed to be done to stop the beautiful sea becoming consumed by waste. One weekend,Maria and Peter brought a big bag to the beach and determined to clean it up. Sweat streamed down from their forehead while they bent down and picked up the plastic bags. To their disappointment, after a day’s hard work, there were still many plastic bags lying on the beach or floating in the water. Going home with aching legs and arms, Maria and Peter were almost defeated by a strong sense of failure.
That night over dinner with their parents, the pair ate silently. Noticing their low spirits, Mother asked gently, “You two looked so down. What happened?”Exchanging glances with Peter, Maria replied in a low voice,“It’s those annoying plastic bags. We tried to clean up but it was just impossible.”Understanding the pair’s disappointment, their father patted them on the back and comforted,”Well, it’s really hard for just two of you to fix such a big problem.”“Just two of us.”complained Maria and Peter, looking at each other.Suddenly, an idea lashed through their minds, their eyes shining with excitement.“Yes,that’s the point! We should make more people aware of the problem and encourage them to take action!” the pair said in chorus.

答案】Quickly finishing their dinner, the pair went upstairs and started planning. Maria and Peter decided to take advantage of the Internet. “Maybe we can write an article to arouse people's awareness.” Maria proposed. “Good idea! We can also make a video!" Peter added. The next few hours witnessed their heated discussion and growing confidence in a clean and beautiful coast. The next day, they went to the beach and filmed a short video showing plastic bags lying on the beach and floating in the sea. Peter, who was good at writing, wrote an article talking about the present situation of the beach and asking people to take part in the clean-up.
Excited and nervous, they posted the video and article on WeChat. To their amazement, their post went viral online immediately. Countless comments flooded in saying how heartbroken they were when looking at the polluted beach and ocean. What amazed Maria and Peter more was that numerous people in their community, encouraged by their efforts, offered to join in their clean-up. More and more people came to the beach to collect plastic bags and they also appealed to others to avoid throwing or using plastic bags. A year later, with their joint and continuous effort, the coast regained its beauty and Maria and Peter regained their long-awaited pleasure.
