I think the biggest difference between the north and the south is the language. Each place in China has its dialect (方言).Luckily,China has done a good job in teaching people putonghua. It is reported that the ' putonghua popularity rate has increased from 70 percent to 80.72 percent in the past ten years. How amazing it is that so many people can speak one language!

You can also find some differences in traditional Chinese poems.China's poet Su Shi once wrote about the West Lake in Hangzhou:"The brimming waves delight the eye on sunny days; The dimming hills present a rare view in rainy haze. (水光潋滟晴方好,山色空蒙雨亦奇。)" Hangzhou is warm and wet, with beautiful lake scenery. But if you read poems about the north, you' ll find"In boundless desert lonely smoke rises straight".Those are quite different scenes, aren't they?

43.【答案】Dear Linda,
I am glad to hear from you.I've learned that you are interested in Chinese traditional culture.
As we all know,Chinese is becoming more and more popular around the world. How can we learn it well? Here is my advice.First of all,you should often listen to Chinese, such as Chinese songs, news and so on.The more you listen, the more familiar you will be with Chinese.Second,it is a good way to speak Chinese in daily life as much as possible.Don't be afraid of making mistakes.Besides, you'd better read more Chinese newspapers and magazines.Remembering words in sentences is much more effective than reciting them over and over again.
In a word,as long as we practice Chinese more often,we will be good Chinese learners. After all, "Practice makes perfect."
Looking forward to your reply.
Best wishes, Li Hua
