When my friend first suggested that we join the new Tai Chi Club at school, I said without thinking twice, “No. Tai Chi is for grandparents.” But after the first few classes, I learned how wrong I was—it was amazing!
The first few Tai Chi classes were fun and easy, and the moves really caught my imagination (想象), with creative names like “White Crane Spreading Its Wings” and “Golden Rooster Standing On One Leg”. When I asked my coach where these interesting names came from, he told me the history of Tai Chi. Zhang Sanfeng, a 13th-century Taoist (道家), first got the idea of Tai Chi moves after watching a fight between a bird and a snake. About four hundred years later, Chen Wangting developed Tai Chi according to kungfu moves. Some of these kungfu moves copied animal actions (动作). That’s why some Tai Chi moves are named after animals.
However, after a few weeks, I grew bored and ached from making the same moves again and again. Luckily, my coach was kind. He taught me how to relax my muscles (肌肉) and pay attention to the peace of mind. Slowly, I improved and even learned harder moves. My coach said Tai Chi balanced (平衡) yin and yang through slow, opposite actions: up and down, left and right, forward and backward. This brought both balance in the body and calmness in mind. My love for Tai Chi grew stronger than ever.
Thanks to a year of practice, great changes have taken place in myself. I sleep better and feel more active, even though I am busy with study. Tai Chi has made me happier and more confident when I face problems. I’ll certainly keep practising—it’s a lifelong gift!
34.Why did the writer say no to the Tai Chi Club at first
A. Because he thought Tai Chi was for the old.
B. Because he didn’t know how to play Tai Chi.
C. Because playing Tai Chi was too hard for him.
D. Because playing Tai Chi was too slow and soft.
35.What has the writer learned in the Tai Chi Club
A. Tai Chi is famous because of its interesting names.
B. Zhang Sanfeng developed fun and easy Tai Chi moves.
C. The balance of yin and yang relaxes the body and the mind.
D. Chen Wangting watched a fight between a bird and a snake.
36.How did the writer’s love for learning Tai Chi change
A. B.
C. D.
37.What’s the main idea of the passage
A. The importance of Tai Chi.
B. The advice on learning Tai Chi.
C. The interesting moves of Tai Chi.
D. The experiences of learning Tai Chi.

Living and dealing with kids can be a hard job these days, but living and dealing with parents can be even harder.
If I have learned anything in my 16 years, it is that communication is very important, both when you disagree and when you get along. With any relationship, you need to let other person know how you are feeling. If you are not able to communicate, you will drift apart. When you are mad at your parents, or anyone else, not talking to them doesn't solve anything.
Communication begins with the care of another. It means that you can't just come home from school, go up to your room and ignore everyone. Even if you just say “Hi, and see how their day was for five minutes, it is better than nothing. To keep a good relationship, you must keep communication strong. Let people know how you feel, even if it's just by writing a note.
When dealing with parents, you always have to make them feel good about how they are doing as a parent. If you are trying to make them see something as you see it, tell them that you'll listen to what they have to say, but ask them politely to listen to you. Shouting or walking away only makes the situation worse.
Here is an example: One night, Sophie went to a street party with her friends. She knew she had to be home by midnight after the fireworks, but she didn't feel she could just ask to go home. That would be rude. After all, they had been nice enough to take her along with her. Needless to say, she was late getting home. Her parents were mad at first, but when Sophie explained why she was late, they weren't as mad and let the incident munication is the key factor here. If Sophie's parents had not been willing to listen, Sophie would have been in a lot of trouble.
Communication isn't a one-way deal: it goes both ways. Just remember: if you get into a situation like Sophie's, telling the other person how you feel- listening is the key factor to communication.
38.In the writer's opinion, dealing with parents is ________ than with children.
A. much easier B. more careless
C. more difficult D. more interesting
39.The underlined phrase “drift apart” in Paragraph 2 means ________.
A. 合群 B. 漂流 C. 疏远 D. 满意
40.Sophie's example here is used to show that ________.
A. Sophie is very polite to her parents
B. It's OK to come back home late at night.
C. Sophie's parents are very kind and listen to her
D. Communication is the way to solve misunderstanding
41.All the following are true EXCEPT (除了) “________”.
A. Communication is a two-way deal
B. If you are not able to communicate, walk away
C. It is better to say “Hi” to others than saying nothing
D. If you don't agree with others, you'd better let them know
