It’s not easy to grow up. Growing up can be a real “pain” for some of us. Sometimes we feel sad, sometimes we are fearful, and sometimes we just don’t understand why we can’t stay young forever. But we should take a look back on all the painful things in life with a positive attitude and we should learn from them. We should realise that all of our growing pains actually turn into growing gains!
Throughout our lives we are going to face many challenges and pains, but we should never let these difficulties keep us from following our dreams. We must overcome them one small step at a time.
When I was a young girl, my parents asked me to do so many things that I didn’t like. They made me learn to play the violin and then the piano. At that time I hated music and I also hated them. But looking back now, I am so glad that my parents encouraged me to take music lessons. Music has enriched my life in so many ways. I now comprehend that my parents and teachers wanted me to have a better life.
We are all going to experience growing pains, but they are just part of our life. Think about how we would feel if we had no challenges and lived a life like that. Life would be really boring and meaningless. The future is ours! A little hard work and sweat never hurt anyone! If we realise that these pains are just small bumps (碰撞) on our road to success, we will realise that our growing pains are actually growing gains!
34. What should we do when we look back on the painful things in life

A. Growing Up Is a Real Pain B. Growing Up Is Quite Hard

When I first joined the school basketball team, I was excited but a little nervous. I had a deep love for the sport, yet I was always worried about making mistakes in front of others. My coach, noticing my anxiety, told me, “Basketball isn’t only about scoring points. It’s about working together as a team.”
During practice, I tried to pass the ball perfectly, but my hands often shook. I failed time after time. One day, I missed an easy chance to shoot. I felt so bad that I wanted to give up. My teammate Elsa came up to me, patted my shoulders and said, “Don’t stop! Even Michael Jordan missed many shots.” Her words made me realise that making mistakes is part of learning.
As the season went on, I focused less on being perfect and more on having better performance as a team. I didn’t care so much about being perfect. I started to cooperate with my team. We learned to trust each other. In an important game, we were losing by two points with only 10 seconds left. The crowd was shouting, but I stayed calm. When Elsa passed me the ball, I took a deep breath and shot. The ball circled the basket and finally landed through the net! The whole team cheered wildly.
That moment taught me a truly valuable lesson: Success doesn’t come from avoiding challenges, but from facing difficulties in life. We should always keep in mind that they are chances for growth.

If you are feeling upset but having no one to talk to, who would you turn to Today, many people treat AI chatbots like DeepSeek as friends. I understand why. Unlike humans, chatbots are available (可使用的) 24 hours. They listen patiently and say comforting words. However, this creates a problem.
Philosopher Martin Heidegger believed technology makes us see things only as tools. For example, using a simple tool to search for rocks might make us view a hill as just a “supply place” instead of noticing its natural beauty. Similarly, AI friends offer a limited view of friendship — focusing only on personal needs like reducing loneliness or entertainment. If we rely on(依赖)them, we may never discover the true value of human friendship.
Real friendships involve (包括) accepting imperfections. This is why true friendships mean being imperfect but still loved. Human friends might disappoint you, but they choose to stay even when they see your weaknesses. This shows you are valued beyond just being useful. Such relationships add deep meaning to life, which AI cannot provide.
Sadly, not everyone experiences this. As AI friends become common, future generations (一代人) might lose the chance to build real friendships. Our most important task is to protect human connections. We must teach the next generation and remind ourselves that true friendship helps us grow and achieve more together. Real friendships are imperfect but irreplaceable (不能替代的).
42. How does the writer start the text
A. By asking a question. B. By giving scientific facts.
C. By sharing an experience. D. By quoting a famous person.
43. What is the true value of human friendship
A. Listening carefully. B. Reducing loneliness. C. Offering entertainment. D. Accepting imperfections.
44. What might happen if future generations rely too much on AI friends
A. They will focus less on creativity.
B. They may fail to build deep relationships.
C. They will improve their social skills.
D. They will care less about nature.
45. Why does the writer write this passage
A. To explain the technical details of AI chatbots.
B. To encourage readers to use more AI friends for fun.
C. To warn about the risks of losing real human friendships.
D. To describe the history of friendship over generations.
