When I was 12 years old, I already knew that my teen years were going to be the worst years of my life. I was a total outsider, bullied (欺凌) at school. I felt completely alone in my small town.
But by starting to do volunteer work when I was 14, I turned my problem into a passion for helping others. The opportunity to practice kindness made me feel like my life had a greater purpose. The more positive energy I shared, the more kindness and appreciation I received. I realized that my purpose in life would be to reach out to people, specifically teenagers, and help them feel less alone.
Books were my true friends back then. I was so thankful that the authors wrote those books. The kindness they offered me with their books saved my life. One of my biggest dreams was to become an author so I could write books that would help other teenagers the way those books helped me.
After surviving terrible experiences at school and at home, I made a choice to take the optimistic, positive road in the next steps of my journey. My dream career, one I thought was only possible for the authors I loved, is what I am doing now. I have been a full-time author of teen novels since 2007 and am grateful for this amazing opportunity to reach out to readers every single day.
Kindness saved me when I needed help the most. Even small acts of kindness can change someone’s life. You never know what someone else is going through. But by practicing daily kindness, you become an architect of positive change.

A. Boring. B. Peaceful. C. Unhappy. D. Meaningful.

A.He was inspired by his teacher.
B. He could pass positive energy to readers.

A.Say ‘no’ to bullies bravely.
B.Make positive changes in their lives.
C.Treat others with kindness in daily life.
D.Learn to care more about others’ feelings.

Researchers have studied changes to mealtimes (吃饭时间) in older adults. They found that people experience gradual shifts (改变) as they age (变老), and these changes may show important information about their health.
Lead researcher Hassan Dashti suggested that mealtime changes, especially in breakfast, can be a simple sign of a person’s health. He said that doctors and patients should use changes in mealtime routines as early warnings of hidden (隐藏的) physical or mental problems. He also noted that keeping a regular (有规律的) eating schedule may support healthy aging and longer life.
To explore this idea, the team studied 2,945 adults in the UK, aged 42 to 94, who were followed for more than 20 years. They collected health data and blood samples (样本) to see how the mealtime might relate to health problems. They found that as older adults age, they tend to eat meals especially breakfast and dinner later during the day, while also narrowing the overall time window in which they eat each day.
Later breakfast times were strongly related to some health problems such as extreme sadness, low energy, poor sleep, and trouble preparing meals. People who ate later were also more likely to have oral health problems. Most importantly, later breakfast was connected with a higher risk of death. The researchers also found that people who were naturally “night owls” (preferring later sleep and wake times) tended to eat meals at later times.
“Up until now, we have had a limited (有限的) insight into how the mealtime develops later in life and how this change relates to overall health and longevity,” said Dashti. “Our findings help fill that gap by showing that later mealtimes, especially a later breakfast, are tied to both health challenges and increased death risk in older adults. These results add new meaning to the saying that ‘breakfast is the most important meal of the day’, especially for older adults.”
( )28.What did Dashti suggest about mealtime changes
A.They usually have no clear reasons.
B. They depend mainly on sleeping habits.
C.They can show signs of a person’s health.
D. They are common among young people.
( )29.What did the researchers find about older adults according to Paragraph 3
A. They have more food each day. B. They miss breakfast more often.
C. They take longer time over meals. D. They eat meals later during the day.
( )30.What can be inferred about people who eat breakfast late
A. They tend to live longer lives. B. They usually feel more energetic.
C. They are less likely to stay up. D. They may face some health problems.
( )31.Which word can best describe the results of the study
A. Disappointing. B. Uncertain. C. Helpful. D. Unexpected.
D
AI has caught the spirit of the times in recent years, especially since the appearance of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in 2022. As AI is catching on, it promises to change learning for the better.
Already, there are AI-powered tutoring (辅导) tools that can support learners. One 2024 study, led by the University of Oxford, found that school students in Ghana who used an AI-powered math tutor through WhatsApp for half an hour, twice a week, over eight months, had “higher” math growth scores than those in a control group.
“Until now, expert, personalized tutoring has been too expensive for people,” points out Joseph South, chief officer at the International Society for Technology in Education. “AI-powered tutors can offer this experience for online learners at an affordable price.”
However, there are still possible problems to deal with. AI can present imaginary things as facts, which could mean students might “learn” incorrect information. Similarly, AI can develop biases (偏见) according to the collected information used to train it, and possibly pass them on to learners. Besides, experts warn that any educational organization needs to have strict rules on what student personal information can be fed into AI tools, to reduce privacy (隐私) risks.
But, to some, the biggest risk is to the learning process. “As students increasingly depend on AI tools, they may use them as quick solutions, which will influence their ability to pick up basic learning skills.” says Emily DeJeu, professor of business management communication at Carnegie Mellon University. “Is that good for them in the long term ” she asks, “This is still an open question.”
To protect students, she suggests “we need government rules to provide guidance to schools”. And she adds: “The greatest risk of all with AI is doing nothing. The world has changed and is changing. We should change how we teach and what we teach to welcome AI.”
( )32.What was an important finding of the 2024 study in Ghana
A.Students lost interest in maths.
B.Students preferred AI tutors to human ones.
C.AI tutors improved students’ communication skills.
D.Students with AI tutoring showed higher maths progress.
( )33.What is the biggest risk about AI-powered tutoring according to Emily DeJeu
A.Students might lose basic learning skills.
B.AI could increase school management costs.
C.AI may provide wrong knowledge for students.
D.Teachers may face the situation of losing jobs.
( )34.What does Emily DeJeu suggest about using AI in education
A. Welcome it without changes. B. Protect students’ privacy.
C. Make guiding rules for schools. D. Stop using it for doing homework.
( )35.In which part of a magazine can we read the passage
A.Business and culture. B. Science and technology.
C. Literature and art. D. Health and lifestyle.

“Happy New Year, everyone!” Jimmy’s dad put a plate of hot pancakes down on the center of the table. “It’s the first day of the year. What’s your resolution (决心要做事) for the next twelve months ” Jimmy’s sister, Julia, spoke first. “I want to get an A in math. I’m going to practice my flashcards every day.” Julia poured syrup (糖浆) on her pancakes and began to eat.
“What about you, Jimmy What’s your big goal for the year ”
Jimmy thought about it. He had never made a New Year’s resolution before. “Does a resolution have to be about school ” he asked. Dad smiled, “No, Jimmy. A resolution can be about anything you want. It’s just a promise you make to yourself to try to do something in the future. ” Hearing that, Jimmy sat and thought. He was already good at math. He wasn't sure he wanted to make a promise about doing extra homework. He would like to be better at baseball and hit a home run in the summer. It would be hard, though, to practice baseball in the winter when there was snow on the ground.
“I’ll have to think about it, ” Jimmy said. Then he went back to his room. He did his best thinking on his bed, but he had to step over all of his toy trucks and a few dirty socks to get there. He also had to move his comic books and stuffed animals off of his bed before he could sit down.
Jimmy looked around his room. It was pretty messy. He would have to clean it up before he could have friends over on Sunday. It usually took all day Saturday to clean up. That meant Jimmy couldn't play until he was finished.
“That’s it! ” Jimmy cried. “I’ll clean my room every Friday right after school. Dad will be happy, and I will be able to play all weekend. ” Jimmy smiled. He was happy that he found a resolution that would make his New Year much better than the past year.

A Chinese Classical Music Festival
Last week, our school held a Chinese classical music festival in the concert hall to promote Chinese traditional culture. All the students participated in it.
During the festival, classics played by Chinese classical instruments, such as erhu and Chinese zither, were amazing, among which High Mountain and Flowing Water drew the most attention. Also, what interested the students most was that an opportunity was provided to learn these instruments from some experts. The festival turned out to be a success. Having participated in it, we all realized that we should be responsible for inheriting and popularizing our traditional culture.
67、读后续写
The following Friday arrived, and Jimmy remembered his resolution. As soon as he got home from school, he put his backpack down and started cleaning his room. He picked up his toys, organized his comic books, and even folded his clothes. It was hard work, but he felt proud when he finished. His dad noticed the clean room and smiled, “Great job, Jimmy!” That evening, Jimmy felt relaxed knowing he had the whole weekend free to play.
From then on Jimmy never forgot the resolution, resulting in changes and benefits even beyond cleaning. He found that keeping his room tidy helped him stay organized with his homework and school projects. His friends also started complimenting his neat room when they visited. Jimmy realized that small, consistent efforts could make a big difference. By sticking to his resolution, he not only improved his habits but also gained more time and energy for the things he loved.
