Three months ago, I moved to Paris to start college. I left behind everything I knew- my home, friends, and routines. At first, it felt 45 and challenging, but I quickly realised that college gives us a lot of free time, more than I have ever had in my life.
Even though I take many classes, work part-time, and join student clubs, I still have hours each day outside the classroom. Many students do not use this time well. They sleep late, spend hours on social media, or watch TV, and as a result, they 46 chances to learn new skills or improve themselves.
Attending class and completing homework is only the first step. If you want to make progress and become very good at something, you need to use your free time 47 . You can read books to learn new words, practice writing, try personal projects, or attend talks and workshops. Reading and thinking can also help you stay calmer and more 48 . You should exercise your mind instead of getting lost in PC games or on your smartphones.
Free time is also a chance to learn from other people. Talking with friends, asking questions, listening carefully, and sharing 49 can teach you new ways of thinking and help you understand others better.
You can see how much you grow and develop in a year if you plan your free time carefully. Free time can be your greatest 50 or your biggest waste. Choose activities that help you learn, improve, or help others, and make the most of every day.

The young couple set off in September 2024. They walked around 45 kilometers a day and rested every five or seven days. After crossing 16 countries, they finally reached the Bund on February 7. Tired but h 52 , the two hugged each other by the Huangpu River. “We’re having a hard time believing it’s real, that we’ve done all this on foot,” said Voisot. “We weren’t sure we would m 53 it, but we told ourselves we’d try it out.”
Voisot and Humblot have known each other since they were ten years old. They went to secondary school and university together. We wanted to avoid flying, and then we had this slightly crazy idea of walking all the way.”

Now that they’ve reached Shanghai, will Voisot and Humblot simply pack up and head home Not quite. The two have come up with an even c 57 idea. “Now that we’ve hit the ocean, why don’t we take a boat and head east to the United States ” said Humblot. “Then we could walk across North America, cross the Atlantic and walk back home, making a full circle!”

Citizen science projects are led by scientists and supported by the public. They can include many activities, from stargazing (观星) to whale watching. You don’t need to be an expert to join in — anyone can be a citizen scientist. By counting, measuring, watching and listening, citizen scientists collect information that helps professional scientists and researchers to understand the world better.

Being a citizen scientist isn’t just great for the planet, it’s good for you too. Sabrina Romanoff, a psychologist (心理学家), says taking part in the projects helps you learn new skills. Her research also shows it makes you feel happier and more confident. When you take action on a problem that matters to you, you are helping to find a solution. You are also making new discoveries. Citizen science projects encourage people to do simple and helpful research. When you realize that you’re making a positive difference, you can be proud of yourselves.

For example, The Big Garden Bird-watch project asks you to spend one hour counting the number of birds you see. Your results help scientists record bird species (物种) in the UK: which ones are doing well and which are having trouble. The Big Seaweed (海藻) Search project asks people to photograph 14 species of seaweed on UK beaches. The findings help scientists understand how healthy our seas are. My name is Li Hua. Today I want to talk about how technology changes our life. My favorite digital device is a smartphone—it helps me study online and connect with friends easily. Technology makes my life more convenient: I can learn courses at home and finish tasks like paying bills quickly.
