Getting to the airport you’re departing from can easily raise the following question: where can we park our
vehicle cheaply and securely at the same time To be true, airport parking isn’t the best option in this case since
most US and Canadian airports offer travelers extremely high prices. Let’s take Toronto Pearson International
Airport for example:
Parking Type Daily Rate
Express(only Terminal 1) $55.00
Daily (Terminals 1 & 3) $36.00
Preferred Park $38.00
Value Park Garage $29.00
Value Parking Lot $24.00
*The rates are 10% off for more than three days. Please refer to the official website.
You see that even the cheapest option will cost you at least $24.00 per day. And that’s a true nightmare,
especially if you know there is a great solution to such a problem. Moreover, don’t hope to find a free parking
space quickly — usually, airport parking has limited availability, which means it’ll turn out to be a real
2
challenge for you.
Going back to a solution — off-site parking lots near the airports should be definitely your choice! And
we’re happy to say that our smart booking platform, ParkingNearAirports. io, provides our customers with such
services:
·Convenient locations
·A free speedy shuttle to and from airport terminals
·Wheelchair and mobility assistance
·Luggage assistance (tips charged accordingly)
Be clever and never spend your entire budget on airport parking — better take a look at the prices above!
So Park with ParkingNearAirports. io & Enjoy Convenience together with us!
21.How much does a traveller pay at least for parking at Terminal 1 for 5 days
A.$275. B.$180. C.$162. D.$120.

A.They will get to the airport terminal at a low cost.

Humanity uses a little less than half the water available worldwide. Yet occurrences of shortages and
droughts are causing famine and distress in some areas, and industrial and agricultural by-products are polluting
water supplies. Since the world’s population is expected to double in the next 50 years, many experts think we
are on the edge of a widespread water crisis.
But that doesn’t have to be the outcome. Water shortages do not have to trouble the world — if we start
valuing water more than we did in the past. Just as we began to appreciate petroleum more after the 1970s oil
crises, today we must start looking at water from a fresh economic perspective. We can no longer afford to
consider water a virtually free resource of which we can use as much as we like in any way we want.
Instead, for all uses except the domestic demand of the poor, governments should price water to reflect its
actual value. This means charging a fee for the water itself as well as for the supply costs.
Governments should also protect this resource by providing water in more economically and
environmentally sound (健康的) ways. For example, often the cheapest way to provide irrigation water in the dry
tropics is through small-scale projects, such as gathering rainfall in depressions (凹地) and pumping it to nearby
cropland.
No matter what steps governments take to provide water more efficiently, they must change their
institutional and legal approaches to water use. Rather than spread control among hundreds or even thousands of
local, regional, and national agencies that watch various aspects of water use, countries should set up central
authorities to coordinate (调整) water policy.
24.What is the real cause of the potential water crisis.
A.Only half of the world’s water can be used.
3
B.The world population is increasing faster and faster.
C.Half of the world’s water resources have been seriously polluted.
D.Humanity has not placed enough value on water resources.
25.As is indicated in the passage, the water problem _________ .
A.is already serious in certain parts of the world.
B.has been exaggerated by some experts in the field
C.poses a challenge to the technology of building reservoirs (水库)
D.is underestimated by government organizations at different levels
26.According to the author, the water price should _______ .
A.be reduced to the minimum B.stimulate domestic demand
C.go with its real value D.take into account the occurrences of droughts
27.In order to raise the efficiency of the water supply, measures should be taken to ______ .
A.guarantee full protection of the environment
B.centralize the management of water resources
C.increase the sense of responsibility of agencies at all levels
D.encourage local and regional water resources

What’s the truth of joy I was crazy about this question when I was young. However, ever since I started
my own family, this pursuit has been buried under my workloads and daily chores.
In 2008, Memorial Day weekend promised to deliver beautiful weather — not always the case at that time
of year, so I decided to spend that Saturday shopping and do one big cleaning, starting with the garage. Our
two-car garage, as always, was full of stuff. Boxes piled one on top of another, bikes crossed together. A garden
hose (软水管) sat in a corner. We had to turn sideways when getting in and out. I planned to pull everything out
on the driveway, hose down the entire garage, and after it was dry, put everything back more organized.
With the morning moving along, the possibility to finish the cleaning within the day began to look less and
less likely. I recalled how I had been feeling discontented lately while taking care of our stuff. Here was yet
another time! Then my neighbor June, who was working in her yard, heard my sigh and said jokingly, “The joy
of home ownership, huh That’s why my daughter keeps telling me I don’t need to own all this stuff.”
I don’t need to own all this stuff.
As I turned to look at the fruits of my morning labor, I began to recognize the source of my feelings for the
first time. It was piled up in my driveway. As I surveyed the pile I made, the answer to the obsolete (被遗忘的)
question came to light: There is more joy to be found in possessing less than we can ever find possessing more.
I ran inside the house and found my wife upstairs cleaning the bathtub. Still trying to catch my breath, I
said, “Kim, you’ll never guess what just happened. June said we don’t need to own all this stuff!”
And in that moment, a minimalist family was born.
28.Which of the following best describes the to-be-cleaned garage
A.Spacious and well-lit. B.Neat and organized.
C.Disordered and jam-packed. D.Narrow and ordered.
29.What can we infer about the author’s recent experience with stuff cleaning
A.He went through unaccountable frustration.
4
B.He figured out his disinterest in cleaning.
C.He initiated it and enjoyed the process.
D.He lost patience and rushed to the end.
30.What did June imply by saying “The joy of home ownership, huh”
A.The pleasure of possessing a home. B.The significance of owning a family.
C.The convenience of having a garage.D.The demands of maintaining a house.
31.Why did the author start a minimalist family
A.He favored living with a handful of people. B.He wanted to quit being a slave of stuff.
C.He considered cleaning a waste of time. D.He figured out the joy of ownership.
D
When providing anesthesia (麻醉) during surgery, medical professionals must consider numerous factors.
A crucially overlooked aspect is the percentage of body fat a patient possesses. Far from being inactive, body fat
functions as a variable container that can change how anesthetic drugs spread and are processed, impacting both
the surgical procedure and the patient’s recovery.
Anesthetic drugs can be classified into two primary categories: fat-soluble (脂溶性的) drugs — those
that tend to dissolve in fat — and water-soluble drugs, which dissolve more easily in water. For fat-soluble
drugs, individuals with higher body fat encounter a distinct challenge. When anesthesia is first given, a
significant portion of the drug gets trapped in their fat cells. This requires doctors to apply a higher initial dose
(剂量) to ensure the patient enters a deep, pain-free state of unconsciousness. However, the drug stored in the fat
then gradually reenters the bloodstream, like a delayed-release process, which may prolong the effects of the
anesthesia and lead to problems like reduced breathing rate.
By contrast, patients with minimal body fat face other risks: their limited fat fails to store fat-soluble drugs,
letting them circulate freely in the bloodstream. If doctors rely merely on standard dose calculations based on
body weight without considering low body fat, there is a risk of overdose, which can stress the body and cause
serious issues.
To address these challenges, anesthesiologists are increasingly prioritizing body composition assessments.
They employ simple techniques, such as bioelectrical impedance (阻抗 ), which sends a gentle electrical signal
through the body, to determine each patient’s physical makeup. With this information, doctors can customize
drug dosages, enhancing the safety and effectiveness while promoting quicker recovery.
Therefore, the role of body fat in anesthesia highlights the importance of individualized medical care.
Understanding the unique characteristics of each patient’s body is essential for best treatment.
32.What happens to fat-soluble anesthetics in high-fat patients
A.They stay in fat and may cause problems later.
B.They work faster than in other patients.
C.They are quickly removed from the body.
D.They break down the fat cells.
33.Why are low-fat patients at risk during anesthesia
A.They may receive too much anesthetic.
B.They require a larger initial drug dose.
5
C.Their body makes the drugs less effective.
D.They have experienced severe weight loss.
34.How do doctors deal with the problem related to body fat and anesthesia
A.By promoting quicker recovery.
B.By reducing drug dosages for all patients.
C.By using a test to measure body fat proportion.
D.By avoiding fat-soluble anesthetics entirely.
35.Which is the best title for the text
A.Anesthetic Dose Mistakes: A Clinical Analysis
B.Body Fat’s Hidden Role in Anesthesia: Impact and Solution
C.Body Fat Measurement in Anesthesia: Techniques and Benefits
D.Anesthetic Risks in High-Fat and Low-Fat Patients: Causes and Effects

Brief and pleasant small talk can promote learning, expand your horizons, and contribute to a sense of
belonging. 36 We asked experts to share their favorite strategies for getting better at small talk.
Take advantage of “free information”.
Find help from your surroundings, says Debra Fine, an expert on communication skills. If you’re standing
next to someone at a baby shower, for example, the fact that you’re both there is what she calls “free information”
— so ask the person how they know the mum-to-be. 37
Skip sensitive questions.
Get rid of controversial topics and potentially sensitive matters (such as religion, relationship status, kids
and work). 38 You might ask a high school senior to fill you in on their college search, for example,
rather than inquiring if they will get into a famous college.
Respond generously.
Think of conversation as a game and aim to be an active player, which requires investing energy in it. If
someone asks how you are and you simply respond “Good”, you’re being a “lazy conversationalist”. 39
That gives the person you’re talking to plenty to work with if they’d like to continue to chat.
Exit the chat gracefully.
40 Consider introducing the person to someone else, suggests Diane Windingland, and leaving
time for them to know each other. Besides, Windingland recommends concluding like this: “Please excuse me, I
have to talk to so-and-so.”
A.Don’t spend too long on meaningless topics.
B.You can maximize these benefits by mastering some techniques.
C.Rather than a single-word response, offer a full sentence in return.
D.Your shared reality is a terrific entry point for deeper conversation.
E.Instead, questions like “What keeps you busy outside of work ” are suggested.
F.Some conversations may drag on because people can’t figure out how to end them.
6
G.One key to changing that is to first accept that these casual chats are impossible to avoid.

第二节 (满分 25分)
67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was the start of the summer vacation, and 16-year-old Liam was feeling more lonely than ever. His
parents, both busy AI engineers, had to take an urgent business trip abroad for a month, leaving him alone at
home. Knowing Liam struggled with loneliness and had been quiet since his best friend moved away, they
surprised him with a small, human-like AI companion robot named Kiki before they left.
Kiki was no ordinary robot. It had warm silver eyes, a soft voice, and could learn the use’s habits, emotions
and hobbies quickly. Liam was unimpressed at first. He thought robots were just cold machines with programs,
unable to understand real feelings. He ignored Kiki’s gentle greetings, refused to talk, and spent his days locked
in his room, playing video games or staring out of the window.
But Kiki never gave up. It made Liam’s favorite oatmeal for breakfast, tidied his messy desk, and left
encouraging notes on his pillow every night. When it noticed Liam loved drawing but hadn’t picked up his
sketchbook (写生薄)for weeks, it quietly placed the sketchbook and colored pencils on the living room table,
along with a simple picture it had drawn.
One rainy afternoon, Liam decided to go to the quiet old studio at the end of the community to draw. He
8
rushed out in a hurry without noticing Kiki following him quietly with an umbrella. The wet floor inside made
him slip and fall hard, hurting his right arm. He could not move and called for help anxiously, but no one could
hear him in the heavy rain. Just then, the door opened and Kiki ran to him quickly.
