A Boy’s Brave Act in a Tsunami

How to Stay Safe During a Tsunami
Tsunamis are one of the most dangerous natural disasters. They can come suddenly and cause great damage, but there are ways to stay safe if you know what to do.
First, you should learn the signs of a coming tsunami. The most common sign is the sea water suddenly pulling back, leaving the seabed exposed. You may also see thick froth on the waves or hear a loud roaring sound like a train. If you see any of these signs, you must act quickly.
Second, if you are on the beach and notice the signs of a tsunami, leave the beach immediately. Do not stay to take photos or pick up things from the seabed. Run to higher ground as fast as you can—hills, tall buildings, or high roads are safe places.
Third, if you are in a low-lying area near the sea, listen to the tsunami warning on the radio or TV. Follow the instructions of the local government and leave the area quickly. Do not drive, because the roads may be destroyed by the tsunami.
