In a remote village in Hebei Province, Pang Zhongwang was raised in unbearable hardship. His father suffered from a severe disease and couldn’t work after an accident, while his mother was paralyzed waist down and unable to take care of him. Despite their own poor health, his elderly grandparents struggled desperately to keep the family together.
At the age of seven, Pang suffered another fatal blow — he was diagnosed with a serious heart disease requiring immediate and expensive surgery. Driven by love, his family and relatives borrowed from every possible source, running up huge debts (债) to save his life. This deep sacrifice shaped Pang greatly. Instead of giving up, he built a strong sense of responsibility and started collecting waste after school to help pay off the debts. He earned only a little money but never spent it on toys or snacks.
Amid great difficulties, Pang kept studying with strong determination. He regarded education as the only path to change his family’s fate and always remained at the top of his class. Finally, he scored 684 in the Gaokao and was admitted to Tsinghua University. His inspiring story spread across the country.
Pang’s story fully shows the power of persistence, gratitude and strong will. He never complained about his difficult life but turned challenges into motivation. He has become a symbol of hope, proving that with a brave heart and firm mind, no difficulty is too great to overcome.
24. What made Pang Zhongwang’s family face extreme hardship at first
A. His grandparents had no income and were seriously ill.

C. He had to receive a costly operation at a very young age.
D. The whole family was burdened with large medical debts.

A. To reduce his family’s financial burden.
B. To gain some work experience.
C. To support his grandparents’ daily life.
D. To earn money for his school fees.
26. What can we learn about Pang Zhongwang from the text
A. He had to give up his studies because of poverty.
B. His difficult life had a negative influence on his study.
C. He achieved great academic success through hard work.
D. He thought work was more important than education.
27. What is the main message the writer wants to convey
A. Health plays a key role in our life.
B. Everyone should learn to collect waste.
C. A strong will can help defeat difficulty.
D. Education is the only way to succeed.
C
The sharp fin. The rows upon rows of sharp teeth. The large black eyes. The sharks you see on television in Jaws or Discovery’s “Shark Week” are not the friendliest-looking creatures. They aren’t exactly an animal you want to find near you while swimming in the ocean. Despite their portrayals (刻画) in movies and popular culture, sharks are complex, misunderstood creatures that are weaker than they appear.
One very common misunderstanding about sharks is their desire to hunt humans. When sharks attack humans, it is because they mistake a human for their normal prey, seals or dolphins. They don’t seek out humans on purpose. Statistically, you are more likely to be struck by lightning than be bitten by a shark.
Sharks are very important to the ocean as they are at the top of the food chain. Some sharks even control the balance of an ecosystem through fear alone. Tiger sharks in Australia help protect seagrass meadows from turtles. Turtles eat the seagrass and without the sharks, they will destroy these meadows. When tiger sharks are present, though, the turtles are scared away, which controls their appetite for seagrass and promotes its growth.
Though sharks are thought to be very scary by the majority of people, the sad truth is that they should be scared of humans. The number of sharks in the ocean is steadily dropping. There are a few reasons for this. For one, they mature quite slowly, over several years, and produce relatively few young. For another, overfishing of sharks is happening because more and more people want their fins. About 100 million sharks are killed every year according to National Geographic. Shark fin is a way for people to show off their wealth. Shark fins are also believed to have medicinal benefits, though there is no evidence or proof that they actually do. Both of these ideas are putting pressure on the number of sharks in the ocean.
28. What is the purpose of the first paragraph
A. To show the frightening looks of sharks on TV.
B. To introduce the main topic of the whole passage.
C. To explain why sharks are feared by many people.
D. To praise sharks for their special body features.
29. What does the author want to show by mentioning lightning in paragraph 2
A. Sharks don’t often hunt humans. B. Sharks swim fast.
C. Shark bites are deadly. D. Sharks make mistakes.
30. Why are sharks important to the ocean
A. They scare humans away. B. They control its food chain.
C. They maintain the ecological stability. D. They reduce the number of sea animals.
31. Which of the following is the best title for the text
A. SOS: Save Our Sharks! B. Sharks: King of the Ocean
C. Shark Fins: An Ecological Crisis D. Sharks: Killers or Misunderstood
D
Recent research suggests that growing camellia (山茶) plants for cooking oil could enhance production while minimizing environmental harm. Replacing some traditional vegetable oil crops with camellia could lead to increased oil yield and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions (排放), water consumption, and pesticide use. Camellia, or tea seed oil, is a high-yielding bush that grows well in challenging conditions where other oil crops struggle. Despite its potential health benefits, camellia oil remains largely unknown outside China.
Currently, about a third of the world’s farmland is used to grow vegetable oils. This area is expanding, contributing to deforestation, global warming and wildlife loss. According to Thomas Wanger from Westlake University in Hangzhou, China, the environmental impact of six main oil crops — soya, palm, rapeseed, sunflower, peanut, and olive — results in an estimated 1.2 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, primarily due to fertilizer use and deforestation.
Wanger’s team explored the environmental benefits of replacing some of these crops with Camellia. This plant can yield up to 2.8 tonnes of oil per hectare, second only to palm oil, and can grow in poor soil and on steep hillsides. Camellia oil is rich in oleic acid (油酸), which may lower heart disease risk and has a higher smoke point than many oils, reducing harmful gases during cooking.
If camellia were grown on 11% of the land currently used for other oil crops, it could produce the same oil volume while decreasing greenhouse gas emissions by 14%, water use by 5%, land use by 7%, and pesticide use by 9%. However, these figures would depend on how camellia is grown, says Wanger, “The benefits depend strongly on where it is planted and what oil plants to replace .”
Government action would probably be needed to encourage a camellia oil market, says Wanger. “At present the price is very high, and so I think the consumer might be a bit hesitant.” “The commercial reality is that new oil crops won’t achieve a large market share (份额) unless production can compete in the market,” says Christopher at Alternative Fuels Consultancy.
32. What are the environmental benefits of growing camellia plants
A. Using less chemicals. B. Limiting water pollution.
C. Helping other crops’ growth. D. Reducing greenhouse gas.
33. What can we learn from paragraph 3
A. Camellia oil has health benefits over many cooking oils.
B. Palm oil yields less oil per hectare than camellia does.
C. Camellia grows well only in good soil and on flat ground.
D. Wanger’s team focused on the market price of camellia oil.
34. What is Wanger’s attitude toward replacing other oil crops with camellia oil
A. Completely supportive. B. Cautiously optimistic.
C. Strongly opposed. D. Entirely indifferent.
35. What can we conclude from the last paragraph about camellia oil
A. Consumers are hesitant to buy it because of its poor quality.
B. Government intervention is impossible to help develop its market.
C. It will gain a large market share soon without any production improvements.
D. Its high price makes it hard to increase its market share.

How to Build Good Study Habits
Developing good study habits is essential for academic success. It not only helps you learn more effectively but also reduces stress during exams. Here are some practical tips to get you started:
Set a fixed study schedule
Our brains work best when we follow a routine. ___36___ For example, you could study math from 7:00 to 8:30 every evening and English in the morning. Stick to your schedule as much as possible, even on weekends.
Create a comfortable study space
Find a quiet, well-lit area where you can focus without distractions. ___37___ Make sure your study space has all the supplies you need, such as books, notebooks, and stationery. Avoid studying in bed or on the couch, as these places are associated with relaxation.
___38___
Large assignments or study goals can feel overwhelming. Breaking them down into smaller, specific tasks makes a big difference. Instead of trying to finish an entire textbook chapter in one sitting, split it into sections and deal with one at a time. This will make your tasks more manageable and help you stay motivated.
Take regular breaks
Studying for hours without stopping can lead to fatigue (疲劳) and reduced concentration. ___39___ During your break, stretch, drink water, or take a short walk — avoid using your phone or watching TV, as these activities can make it harder to get back to studying.
Review and reflect regularly
Learning doesn’t end when you finish studying. ___40___ Review your notes within 24 hours of learning new materials, and reflect on what you’ve learned. This will strengthen your memory and show where you need more practice. With continuous efforts, these habits will become second nature and help you achieve your academic goals.
A. Split difficult tasks into smaller parts.
B. Plan your daily study time in advance.
C. This helps your brain get into “study mode” at the right time.
D. It’s important to take short breaks every 45-60 minutes.
E. Regular review is key to long-term memory of knowledge.
F. A disordered environment can make it hard to concentrate.
G. You should also ask your teachers for feedback on your progress.

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Since I stepped into Senior Two, life has been a non-stop cycle of homework, exams and fierce competition. Buried under piles of papers and burning the midnight oil almost every night, I kept telling myself that I must work harder to realize my dream of entering a top university. I tried every method known: making detailed timetables, reciting vocabulary till midnight, and redoing wrong questions. However, despite my persistent efforts, the results were far from satisfactory.
Time and time again, I received disappointing test scores. The red marks on the paper were like sharp knives, piercing my heart and making me feel completely defeated. One Friday afternoon, after getting yet another discouraging school report, I locked myself in my room. Tears rolled down my cheeks uncontrollably as I stared at the low grades. I began to doubt my own ability, wondering if I was actually smart enough to make it. “Maybe I should just give up,” I whispered to myself, feeling exhausted and hopeless.
Just when I was drowning in self-pity, my deskmate, Li Hua, noticed my absence from the classroom. He tracked me down at home and knocked gently on my door. When I finally opened it, with red and swollen eyes, he didn’t say a word of blame. Instead, he handed me a cup of hot milk and sat beside me quietly. After letting me calm down for a moment, he shared his own struggle with math, admitting that he had also wanted to quit many times. Then, looking me straight in the eyes, he said softly but firmly:
“The process is more important than the result. Keep going, and you will see the change sooner or later.” These simple yet powerful words were like a ray of sunshine, breaking through the dark clouds of my mind. They touched my heart deeply and pulled me out of the abyss of negativity. I took a deep breath, wiped away my tears, and silently made up my mind to hold on to my dream.

【答案】范文:
Dear Editor,
To build us up, our school has organized running exercise during the break.
However, we students have different opinions about it. Many of the students are in favor of this program. They think running is a good way to build them up. Besides, it can help them to relax and relieve the pressures of study. However, other students think differently. They claim that they feel very tired after running, so they have difficulty concentrating on their lessons. In addition, they sweat so heavily after running that it is easy to catch a cold.
I think it’s beneficial for students to take regular physical exercise because they spend most of their time sitting in the classroom. Running is an effective way to keep fit. However, other ways of exercising should be provided for students, too. Do you agree with me
Yours,
Li Hua
【答案】
I made a detailed study plan and started to change my learning methods. Instead of blindly reciting and redoing questions, I began to analyze my mistakes carefully, noting down the reasons and summarizing key knowledge points. I asked teachers for help whenever I encountered difficulties, and Li Hua and I studied together after class, discussing problems and sharing learning skills. I also adjusted my schedule, ensuring enough rest to avoid burnout. Every day, I stuck to the plan firmly, step by step, no longer anxious about the results but focusing on every small progress.
With my continuous efforts, I finally made significant progress. In the next exam, my scores improved greatly, and the red marks on the paper were no longer sharp knives but a reminder of my hard work. When I saw the report, a big smile appeared on my face, and tears of joy rolled down. I told Li Hua the good news immediately, and he was as happy as I was. I realized that persistence and correct methods are the keys to success. From then on, I became more confident, knowing that as long as I keep going, I will eventually realize my dream.
