A few days ago, I had a fight with my mum. I wanted a new phone because many of my friends had new
phones and they often showed them off. But when I asked Mum for one, she said, “No way!”
That made me angry. “Doesn’t my mum love me ” I wondered. So, I stayed in my room and didn’t eat all
day. Finally, Mum agreed to get me a new phone—but she would pay 70% of the cost, and I had to pay the rest by
selling watermelons with her and Dad. I thought, “How hard could it be ”
But the first day was tough. We got up at 4:00 a.m. and drove 100 kilometres to a watermelon farm. On the
way, we felt sleepy, and Dad put cold water on his face to stay awake. When reaching the farm, my parents rushed
to pick good watermelons. Then we got over 500 kilograms of watermelons and carried them onto the truck (卡车)
one by one.
By noon, we finally made it to the market. It was very hot in the sun, and we were all sweaty (满是汗的).
We sold watermelons until 9:30 p.m. I was so tired that I lay on the ground. My mum sat under a streetlight,
counting the money again and again. Then she said to me with a big smile, “Son, we made 371 yuan today!”
Looking at my mum, I could hardly hold back my tears.
In the end, Mum gave me the money for the phone. But I gave it back. I realized I shouldn’t spend it. This

Every year, around 100 million birds in the UK fly into glass by mistake. Many birds get hurt, and some
even die. This problem is very serious for birds and for nature.
Birds see the world differently from humans. They do not understand reflections (映像). When a bird sees
a tree or the sky in a window, it thinks they are real. The bird then flies towards it and hits the glass. This can cause
great harm to the bird.
Now, one nature reserve (保护区) in England is trying to stop this problem by putting an ultraviolet (UV)
film (紫外线薄膜) on windows. The film can make birds see the glass easily, but it is still see-through for humans.
Birds have very smart eyes. They can see UV light, but humans cannot. Putting a UV film on windows is a
win-win for humans and birds. To birds, the windows look like a wall, so they can avoid them while flying by. To
humans, the windows look normal and clear, so they can keep on looking out of the windows and enjoying the
scenery!
A restaurant near the nature reserve uses this film on its floor-to-ceiling (落地式的) windows. This way,
people can sit inside and enjoy birdwatching through the windows over the wetlands. Thousands of birds stop over
there every year. Anna Cork, who works at the nature reserve, says they are proud to be taking meaningful action
to protect their feathered friends.
40.How does the writer start the passage
A.By telling a story. B.By introducing a fact. C.By giving an example. D.By describing a process.
41.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A.The sky. B.The tree. C.The bird. D.The window.
42.How does the UV film on windows help
A.It makes glass stronger. B.It protects birds from UV light.
C.It makes glass easier for birds to see. D.It stops people from getting too close to birds.
43.How does Anna Cork probably feel about using the UV film
A.Positive. B.Worried. C.Curious. D.Sorry.
44.What’s the best title for the passage
A.Saving Birds from Hitting Windows B.Understanding How Birds See the World
C.Enjoying Birdwatching at a Nature Reserve D.Using a Special UV Film on Restaurant Windows

Water is important in our life, but sometimes water can be dangerous. So we must pay attention to water
safety, especially for kids. Water safety incidents for kids often happen at home and in the pool. Here are some
suggestions.
Be careful of hot water. Hot water can be dangerous, especially for kids under five. Young kids have
thinner skin than adults, so it’s easier for them to be burnt. You can reduce the risk by testing the temperature of
the water with your wrist or elbow before placing your kid in the bath.
Watch out for danger in the bathroom. The bathroom is full of danger for young kids. Parents can’t leave
them alone in the bathrooms. When young kids are in the bathrooms, remember to put away all the electrical
appliances to avoid the risk.
Never let kids swim alone. Swimming in the pool may make kids feel great. But it is not a perfect sport
because of the risk of injury. It’s dangerous when kids stay in the pool alone because they may even drown. So
kids should swim with their parents.

Let’s set off on an exciting journey to discover our country’s four major plateaus (高原).
The Qinghai-Xizang Plateau in southwest China is the largest of the four plateaus. 50 With an
average altitude (海拔) of over 4,000 metres, it is the highest plateau in the world and is known as the “roof of the
world”. This plateau is the birthplace of many Chinese rivers and has over 1,000 lakes, with Qinghai Lake being
the largest saltwater lake.

sea level. The plateau is covered with the yellowish soil (土壤). 52 Through many studies, some Chinese
scientists hold that it was carried by the north wind from the Inner Mongolian Plateau and the Mongolian inland
areas over thousands of years.
The Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau is the smallest among the four major plateaus. It mainly spreads over the
provinces of Yunnan and Guizhou. The plateau has a great difference in altitude, from 400 to 3,500 metres above

Do you know how you feel today Sometimes it’s hard to tell. That’s why two 17-year-olds, Tara Verma
and Siena Pradhan, from the US, made an app called Feel Now.
Feel Now is a free app and people can use it on their phones. The app helps users think about and
understand their feelings. They get a message each day. It asks them to choose a feeling. The users pick one from
six feelings: happy, peaceful, angry, sad, bored and scared. Then the app breaks down (分解) each one into ten
feelings. For example, it breaks down “scared” into “worried” and nine other feelings. The users can also say how
strong the feeling is, such as “a little” or “very”.
Aditi, 14, is one of the users. She uses Feel Now and finds a feeling she didn’t know about. She might
worry about a test more than she thought. And then she does something to make herself feel better.
Some people think Feel Now could be more useful if it works with other apps. But Tara and Siena think the
simple app is more helpful. “I think the simpler it is, the more people will use it,” Tara said.

77.What does Aditi do after knowing her feeling
