Planning a camping trip this summer Canada has a variety of options. We hand selected these sites for you
because camping is such an important part of the summer experience in our country.
Pacific Rim National Park
The main draw: Long Beach is the best Pacific experience—22 kilometres of sand with a horizon that
disappears into the ocean. The campsites here sit very close to the ocean.
Things to do: Start by exploring the beach. Of course, you can also go for a swim, but be aware that the water
is about 10℃. If you’re into surfing, there are almost always waves at Long Beach. Grey whales spend the summer
in the waters just offshore, providing whale watching opportunities.
Alice Lake Provincial Park
The main draw:What this small park lacks in size, it makes up for in location, sitting just north of Squamish
— “Canada’s Outdoor Recreation Capital”. Campground paths link into the area’s world-class mountain-biking
network.
Things to do: You can warm up for Squamish mountain biking with a three-kilometre ride starting just outside
the campground. You can also cool off with a swim in Alice Lake or relax on its sandy beaches. And don’t miss
Squamish’s Howe Sound restaurant here, you can try their delicious wood-fired pizza.
Mount Robson Provincial Park
The main draw: There’s no better place to admire the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies than at the
Berg Lake Campground. The campground is located beside a small lake that contains mini icebergs that have
broken off from a glacier (冰川) on the mountain above.
Things to do: The Berg Lake area has several world-class hikes. The Snowbird Pass hike is a tough
第 5页/共 17页
22-kilometre round trip. The lake provides a peaceful and beautiful environment for visitors to boat and enjoy the
surrounding mountain scenery.
Peter Lougheed Provincial Park
The main draw: This camping area in Alberta’s Kananaskis Country is popular with the locals. It has all the
characteristics you get in nearby Banff, but without the crowds. You can only reach it by hiking for about three
kilometres.
Things to do: Besides fishing, you can relax in the flower-filled fields and enjoy nice mountain views at
South Kananaskis Pass. Use kayaks (皮划艇) to explore the shoreline of Upper Kananaskis Lake.
21. What can visitors do in Pacific Rim-National Park
A. Enjoy fishing. B. Watch grey whales.
C. Try mountain biking. D. Eat a wood-fired pizza.

Chinese Nobel Prize-winning physicist Chen Ning Yang, one of the most influential scientists in modern
physics, passed away in Beijing on Saturday. “He was 103. He is one of the greatest physicists of the 20th century,
having made revolutionary contributions to the development of modern physics,” the statement from Tsinghua
University said, praising his contribution to China’s scientific and educational developments.
Yang won the Nobel Prize in 1957 with Tsung-Dao Lee for their investigation of the so-called parity laws that
led to “important discoveries regarding the elementary particles,” according to the Nobel Prize website. They were
the first Chinese-born Nobel Prize winners in physics. In his speech at the Nobel Banquet at the time, he said he
was as proud of his Chinese heritage as he was devoted to modern science, a part of human civilization of Western
origin. “I am filled with an awareness of the fact that I am in more than one sense a product of both the Chinese and
Western cultures, in harmony and in conflict,” according to his speech, shared on the Nobel Prize website.
Yang, also known as Frank or Franklin, was also famous for his Yang-Mills theory developed with American
physicist Robert Mills.
第 6页/共 17页
Born in 1922, Yang was brought up surrounded by the Tsinghua campus, where his father was a math
professor, the website said. After finishing his undergraduate degree, he obtained his master’s degree from
Tsinghua.
He entered the University of Chicago in the United States to pursue a doctorate in 1946 and was strongly
influenced by Italian-American physicist Enrico Fermi, who had won the same Nobel Prize in 1938, the website
said. He later became a professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.
In 1986, he became a distinguished Professor-at-large at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, to which he
generously donated many of his awards and articles, including the Nobel Prize. Starting from 1999, he served as a
professor at Tsinghua.
According to a 2017 report by China’s official news agency Xinhua, Yang had obtained American citizenship
in 1964. He said it was a painful decision, one that his father had not forgiven him for. Later, he renounced his U.S.
citizenship in 2015, but he still thought the U.S. was a beautiful country that gave him good opportunities in
studying science, the report said.
24. What can we learn about Chen Ning Yang from the passage
A. He was the most outstanding physicist in the 20th century.
B. He made great contributions to science and education.
C. He donated the Nobel Prize to Tsinghua University.
D. He became the only Chinese to win the Nobel Prize.
25. What can be inferred about Yang’s academic and cultural background
A. Fermi directly helped Yang develop Yang-Mills theory.
B. His achievements were mainly influenced by his father.
C. His study experiences shaped his different cultural identities.
D. He considered the U.S. a better research place than China.
26. What is the main purpose of this passage
A. To show Yang’s contributions to science.
B. To explain the reasons for Yang’s success.
C. To compare Yang’s life in China and the United States.
D. To introduce Yang’s life experiences and achievements.

The “Mona Lisa” is probably the most recognizable female face in the world. Yet it became famous not

because of the semi-smile, but a thief. It remained unknown until a worker stole it in 1911 and crowds flooded in to
see what newspapers called “a shocking empty space” left behind.
Classics of art are supposed to carry some mysterious appeal that continues to exist across the ages. But as
Rochelle Gurstein, a historian, writes in a new book Written in Water, the “timeless classic” is anything but “What
I believed was written in stone was actually written in water,” she argues. Classics come and go.
The rise and fall of classics is not just a matter of changing tastes; art itself has changed. In the past, artists
aimed to capture perfect beauty. They learned by studying and imitating classical masterpieces, often Roman copies
of Greek sculptures. But this changed when people saw a real ancient Greek sculptures from the Parthenon (帕特农
神庙). Unlike the clean, perfect Roman copies everyone knew, these were worn and damaged by time. Suddenly,
the “perfect” beauty looked fake compared to these real ancient pieces. This discovery made artists question
everything they knew about classical art.
The writing of art history has also changed tastes. In the 16th century, Italian painter Giorgio Vasari praised
Raphael and Michelangelo’s realistic style as the highest art form. But in the 19th century, critic John Ruskin
changed minds by saying true “Old Masters” were actually medieval (中世纪 ) religious painters, inspiring the
Pre-Raphaelite movement. Now, when we see today’s “masterpieces” selling for millions at auction (拍卖 ), it
makes you wonder: what will future critics think of them
We call some artworks “classics”, but do we really understand why Taste evolves, and it should. But what
happens to our culture when people stop arguing over what counts as a classic Ms. Gurstein makes it clear: we
need to rethink those famous “masterpieces” in museums.
27. By mentioning “Mona Lisa” in Paragraph 1, the author intends to
A. highlight her mysterious smile. B. show classics win fame by chance.
C. recognize her as a world classic. D. inform readers of the 1911 art theft.
28. What does “written in water” mean in Paragraph 2
A. Easily forgotten. B. Perfectly preserved.
C. Written in special ink. D. Created near the water.
29. What does the text suggest about today’s expensive “masterpieces”
A. They will become invaluable. B. They will stand the test of time.
C. Their artistic value is uncertain. D. Their beauty will become fake.
30. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Is True Beauty Timeless B. Can Theft Create Masterpieces
第 8页/共 17页
C. Is There such thing as a classic D. Do Critics influence Art’s Value
D
When you hear “I have a dream…”, one of the most famous speeches in human history, you’ll never have the
idea how the audience on the scene were fueled by emotional intelligence. When Martin Luther King. Jr. presented
his dream, he chose language that would stir the hearts of his audience. Delivering this electrifying message
required emotional intelligence — the ability to recognize, understand, and manage emotions.
Emotional intelligence has been highly recommended by leaders, policymakers, and educators as the solution
to a wide range of social problems. Emotional intelligence is important, but the uncontrolled enthusiasm has
obscured (掩盖) a dark side. New evidence shows that when people sharpen their emotional skills, they become
better at controlling others. When you’re good at controlling your own emotions, you can hide your true feelings.
When you know what others are feeling, you can motivate them to act against their own best interests.
Social scientists have begun to document this dark side of emotional intelligence. In a research conducted by
Professor Jochen Menges from University of Toronto, when a leader gave an inspiring speech filled with emotion,
the audience was less likely to examine the message closely and remember the content. Ironically (讽刺的是 ),
audience members were so moved by the speech that they claimed to recall more of it.
The authors call this the awestruck (敬畏的) effect, but it might just as easily be described as the dumbstruck
effect. One observer reflected that Hitler’s persuasive impact came from his ability to strategically express
emotions — he would “tear open his heart” — and these emotions affected his followers to the point that they
would “stop thinking critically and just emote (激动地表达感情).”
Leaders who master emotions can rob us of our abilities to reason. If their values are out of step with our own,
the results can be destructive. New evidence suggests that when people have selfish motives, emotional intelligence
becomes a weapon for controlling others.
Throwing light on this dark side of emotional intelligence is one mission of a research team led by University
College London professor Martin Kilduff. According to these experts, emotional intelligence helps people disguise
(伪装 ) one set of emotions while expressing another for personal gain. Professor Kilduffs team writes, “The
strategic disguise of one’s own emotions and the controlling of others’ emotions for strategic ends are behaviors
evident not only on Shakespeare’s stage but also in the offices and corridors where power and influence are traded.”
Of course, people aren’t always using emotional intelligence for evil ends. More often than not, high EQ is
helpful in most aspects of our life. Emotional intelligence — like any skill — can be used for good or evil. So
whether it is a gift or a curse lies in your hand.
第 9页/共 17页
31. Why does the author mention Martin Luther King, Jr
A. To advocate a society with fewer problems. B. To recommend his speech to other leaders.
C. To honor the great leader for his courage. D. To introduce the major topic to readers.
32. What is the dumbstruck effect of Hitler’s emotional intelligence
A. His followers would tear open their hearts to him.
B. His followers would express emotions strategically.
C. His followers would develop the self-serving motives.
D. His followers would lose the ability to reason properly.
33. How do people use their emotional intelligence for personal gain
A. They disguise their true emotions and show another one.
B. They present their strategic behaviors on the stage.
C. They help their colleagues to build up confidence.
D. They lower their own dignity to gain popularity.
34. What would be the best title for the passage
A. The benefits of emotional intelligence. B. The reasons for using emotional skills.
C. The dark side of emotional intelligence. D. The advantages and disadvantages of emotions.

第四部分:书面表达(共两节,32分)
第一节(共 4小题;第 60、61题各两分,第 62题 3分,第 63题 5分,共 12分)
阅读下面短文,根据题目要求用英文回答问题。
Many seemingly bad events in our lives might actually carry hidden blessings. This idea is what we call the
broken umbrella theory. So next time, when faced with a small unlucky moment, give it a second thought.
On a rainy morning, David was rushing to an important job interview when his umbrella suddenly collapsed,
leaving his suit drenched. Feeling both frustrated and concerned about his appearance, he ducked into a nearby café
for shelter. While waiting, he struck up a conversation with a stranger and began discussing his interests,
professional background, career ambitions, and more. To his astonishment, the stranger happened to be a manager
at a renowned company. Deeply impressed by David’s enthusiasm and solid work experience, the manager offered
him a well-paid position on the spot — one far better than the interview he had planned to attend. What initially
appeared to be a misfortune unexpectedly turned out to be a remarkable stroke of luck.
In other words, the broken umbrella theory encourages us to change our thinking pattern. When we choose to
view the world in a more positive light, we can be less anxious and stop worrying that we can’t manage what’s
going on around us. Instead of focusing on small problems that aren’t actually that serious, it helps us learn to see
the bigger picture. It also pushes us to find value in the difficulties we face. This way, we become better at dealing
with future troubles, thus making us more ready for the future hardships. So, next time we feel ourselves becoming
worried or frustrated by an inconvenience, try reshaping our thoughts by telling ourselves what we are thankful for
the inconvenience.
第 11页/共 17页
While keeping a positive mindset can go a long way, the broken umbrella theory is not without its
disadvantages. Be mindful that if we only focus on positive thoughts, we’re actually stopping ourselves from
dealing with challenging or tough emotions. We end up just pretending everything is okay, instead of truly
understanding how we really feel.

【44题答案】
【答案】Dear Jim,
How is everything going I’m very glad to tell you the person I admire most is my math teacher Ms. Wang.
She is the warmest person I have ever met. She is always patient with students who struggle with study, and
never blames us when we fail. Instead, she always encourages us to keep trying. When I failed my important math
exam last term and wanted to give up, she spent her spare time helping me sort out problems and cheered me up.
Now I have made great progress in math, and I’ve learned to stick to my goals instead of giving up easily when
facing difficulties.
Who is the person you admire most
Yours,
Li Hua
