Looking for creative and easy outdoor activities to keep children entertained this summer Here are three engaging craft ideas that encourage creativity, recycling and outdoor play.
Bottle bowling
This eco-friendly project is perfect for reusing household items. Collect empty plastic bottles, wash them thoroughly, and let children decorate them with bright paint. Use a small ball as the bowling ball. Set up the bottles in a triangle shape on a flat outdoor surface. This game not only provides fun but also helps develop hand-eye coordination (协调). Best of all, it requires no extra cost-everything can be found around the home.
Kite-making
Kite-making is a classic outdoor activity that combines art and basic science. You can design kites in various shapes such as diamonds, or even animals. Lightweight materials like paper, plastic bags, or fabric work well. For inspiration and practical tips, online platforms like Pinterest offer countless design ideas and step-by-step guides suitable for beginners.
Water Wall
This interactive water play structure is simple to build and provides hours of sensory fun. Attach different sizes of plastic bottles and containers to a fence or wooden board using strong tape. Cut holes in the bottles to allow water to flow from one to another. Children can pour water at the top and watch it travel down through the containers. Place the water wall in a sunny spot near a garden hose (水管) or water source for easy refill. It’s an excellent way to explore simple water movement and gravity while staying cool outdoors.
1. What is a feature of the bottle bowling activity
A. It improves eyesight.
B. It uses household materials.
C. It requires store-bought tools.
D. It needs professional guidance.
2. What makes the water wall work well

The first time I realized that I had a love for sports competitions was during the Field Day in elementary school. Small for my age, and more of a bookworm than a sports lover, I had suffered that special humiliation of being picked last for various gym teams. The Field Day, which focused on individual skills, was different. In the Softball Throw event, I got my first taste of sporting victory. Credit goes to the example of my first coach, my father. He lifted weights every morning at home. He bought us all baseball gloves and hats, and in the warm months, we spent hours playing catch.
Once I got to sixth grade and switched to private school, our entire student body was assigned (分配) to either the Red or the White team. Throughout the year, we competed against each other in various games and exercises for points. I eventually became president of the Committee of Games. I also played on the field hockey team and the basketball team. And at home, playing tennis, skating, skiing and biking were simply normal things we did. During the break time, magazines were also quite popular for us teens. These regularly featured articles on physical exercise. Somehow, my college roommate and I took up the habit of completing Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) exercises every day, a practice that continued into my marriage, when we had no spare money to use to join a gym.
So, though it shocks some of our friends, that early foundation continued in adulthood into a sports and fitness focus, considered important even on vacation. I still love reading and the arts, too. As far as I’m concerned, life is the richest with my feet in both worlds.
4. What does the underlined word “humiliation” mean in paragraph 1
A. Shame. B. Honour. C. Threat. D. Glory.
5. Why did the author win the Softball Throw event
A. Because she practised a lot.
B. Because her father inspired her.
C. Because she believed in her skills.
D. Because she had advanced sports gloves and hats.
6. What did the author do after stepping into adulthood
A. She stuck to working out.
B. She changed the focus into reading.
C. She regularly exercised on weekends.
D. She joined Royal Canadian Air Force.
7. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. The writer chooses to give up sports during holidays.
B. Most of the writer’s friends agree with his lifestyle.
C. The writer balances sports as well as reading and arts.
D. The writer thinks sports are the only part of a rich life.

AI art, a new form of art created by artificial intelligence technology, has become one of the most popular art trends in 2026. It refers to art works — paintings, music, sculptures and even literature — generated by AI programs under human guidance, and it is changing the way people create and appreciate art.
AI art creation has its unique advantages. First, it is highly efficient: a professional AI program can generate hundreds of art drafts in a few hours, which saves a lot of time for artists. Second, it is creative: AI can combine different art styles and cultural elements that human artists may not think of, such as mixing Chinese ink wash painting with Western abstract art, or combining 2026 horse year folk art with future sci-fi elements. Third, it is accessible: ordinary people who have no professional art skills can also create their own AI art works by inputting simple keywords, making art creation no longer a “privilege” for artists.
However, AI art also faces some heated discussions and challenges. Some people argue that AI art lacks “human emotion” — art is a reflection of human feelings and experiences, but AI can only create works based on data and algorithms, without real thoughts and emotions. Others worry about copyright issues: it is difficult to define who the real creator is when an AI generates an art work based on thousands of existing works.
In fact, AI art is not a replacement for human art, but a new partner. More and more artists now use AI as a tool to assist their creation — they use AI to generate drafts, and then add their own emotions and ideas to polish the works. For intangible cultural heritage protection, AI also plays a key role: it can digitize ancient art works to prevent them from being lost, and help young inheritors innovate traditional art forms.
In the new era, the fusion of AI and art is an inevitable trend. What we need to do is to make good use of AI technology, guide its healthy development, and let it work with human creativity to create more wonderful art works for the world.
8. What is the main feature of AI art creation according to paragraph 2
A. It is slow but creative.
B. It is efficient and accessible.
C. It is only for professional artists.
D. It can only create painting works.
9. What is the main idea of paragraph 3
A. The advantages of AI art in 2026.
B. The popular AI art trends this year.
C. The challenges AI art is facing now.
D. The ways to create AI art works easily.
10. What can we learn about AI art from the passage
A. AI art has replaced human art in many fields.
B. AI can digitize ancient art works for heritage protection.
C. AI art has no copyright issues at all.
D. AI can create art works without human guidance.
11. Which of the following is the author’s attitude towards AI art
A. Negative. B. Doubtful. C. Uninterested. D. Supportive.

If you’ve ever felt a flicker of personal connection to a celebrity this year, you’re not alone. That very feeling inspired Cambridge Dictionary to crown “parasocial” as its 2025 Word of the Year.
The term was coined in the 1950s, when University of Chicago sociologists observed television audiences forming “para-social” bonds with on-screen personalities. But 2025 marks a peak in interest, with Cambridge noting a sharp rise in searches related to “one-sided parasocial relationships that people form with celebrities, influencers, and AI chatbots.” The term puts a new spin on celebrity admiration, given that parasocial relationships can easily turn fantasy-driven, with adoring participants believing there’s mutual chemistry in the connection.
A recent example of this happened when pop star Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce announced their engagement. Countless fans who have followed Swift’s lyrics, heartbreaks, and triumphs for years celebrated the news as if a close friend were getting married, despite having no real-world connection to either of them.
Parasocial relationships, however, aren’t always harmless. Simone Schnall, a professor of experimental social psychology at the University of Cambridge, warns that such bonds can become problematic. “We’ve entered an age where many people form unhealthy and intense parasocial relationships with influencers,” she explains.
That sense of closeness is easy to create online. As psychologist Mark Travers writes in an April 2025 Forbes article, “When a celebrity shares a seemingly ‘private’ moment online, it creates a false sense of closeness — one that makes fans feel like insiders in a world they’ll likely never access.” In practice, this means analyzing interviews, liking posts, and celebrating milestones as if they were personal events. Over time, it can foster deep loyalty and a feeling of familiarity that is entirely one-sided.
And the trend is evolving. Beyond celebrities, parasocial bonds are spreading into the field of artificial intelligence. Increasingly, especially among younger users, chatbots like ChatGPT are treated not just as tools but as companions — another form of relationship that feels mutual but isn’t.
Whether these interactions are para-social, un-social, or anti-social hardly matters. What does matter is that parasocial bonds can quietly make the boundary between admiration and obsession (痴迷) unclear. When influencers or AI systems become emotional anchors, the imbalance becomes impossible to ignore. And if that’s not a carnival of red flags, what is Unlike true friendship, this particular “ship” sails on a one-way current, forever drifting toward the rocks.
12. What are parasocial relationships
A. Unrealistic interactions among influencers.
B. One-sided bonds with famous figures or even AI.
C. Mutual friendships between fans and celebrities.
D. Traditional patterns of admiring public figures.
13. What does the underlined phrase “puts a new spin on” in Para.2 mean
A. paves the way for B. stresses the severity of
C. draws public attention to D. gives a fresh perspective on
14. Why can parasocial relationships be harmful
A. Because they may promote assumed closeness.
B. Because a sense of closeness is easily created online.
C. Because fans often celebrate celebrities’ personal events.
D. Because younger users treat AI chatbots as companions.
15. What is the author’s purpose in writing this article
A. To encourage people to pursue friendships with celebrities.
B. To explain a social phenomenon and highlight its risks.
C. To analyze the evolution of relationships in the digital age.
D. To criticize the behavior of fans who follow influencers.

My mom, an experienced professional caregiver, works at a nursing home named Greenfield. Helping and caring for the seniors in need is her routine, the Alzheimer’s (阿尔茨海默症) patients in particular. And mom always says: “They need me, honey! I must keep a close eye on them in case they forget their way back or get into trouble!”
That really let me down. For thousands of times, how I wished mom could accompany me but not them, especially in the moments like my singing show, school open day, … But “her empty seat” showed everything. Such is my Mom, who is always there for her beloved elders.
As scheduled on Monday morning, our singing contest themed “For Mama” arrived. This was no exception for her! With others’ moms seated, I took my turn standing on the stage, “the empty seat” igniting my eyes! “Need her again!” I thought to myself. The well-prepared song still at the tip of my tongue, I hurriedly finished my part, stepped off the stage, and rushed out of the hall. Anger washed over me nonstop all the time.
After school, head down, I dragged my feet on the road and couldn’t help complaining about mom’s absence. “My ... daughter ... my ...”, an old lady out of nowhere came over to me. She repeated the same words, which added to my annoyance. “Out of my way!” popped out of my mouth, and I quickened my pace to avoid her intentionally.
And almost immediately, I felt a bit sorry for my rude behaviors. So, I slowed down, thinking to myself, “Why is the old lady always murmuring (低语) ‘My ... daughter ... ’” “Is she OK ” “Get lost ” or “Alzheimer’s ” A stream of questions flooded into my mind. Occupied with such guesses, I turned back to look for the old lady. Luckily, she was still standing where she had been. Nevertheless, apart from the repeated “My ...”, I knew nothing more about her. I was totally at a loss what to do next.

【答案】 After much hesitation, I called Mom for help. Mom picked up the phone at once, her voice gentle as usual. I told her about the old lady, and she asked me to stay with her patiently. Soon, Mom arrived, carrying a small bag with water and snacks. She knelt down softly, held the old lady’s hand, and whispered comforting words. Gradually, the old lady calmed down and pulled out a crumpled photo of a girl — her daughter, Mom told me. At that moment, I saw the same kindness in Mom’s eyes as when she talked about her seniors.
Mom’s gentle care for the old lady inspired me to do something for the nursing home. The next weekend, I went to Greenfield with Mom. I helped her feed the elders, chatted with those who could talk, and even sang the song I prepared for the contest to the Alzheimer’s patients. When I saw their smiling faces, I finally understood Mom’s words. Her “empty seat” was not a sign of neglect, but a proof of love. I felt proud of my mom, and knew that caring for others is the most beautiful thing in the world.
