Every day, Indian Kaleem Ullah Khan walks about a mile to his 120-year-old mango tree. “This is my prize of laboring hard in the burning sun for decades,” the 82-year-old said in his orchard in the small town of Malihabad.
The school dropout was just a teenager when he conducted his first experiment in grafting (嫁接). He nurtured a tree to produce seven new kinds of fruit, which unfortunately blew down in a storm, but since 1987, his pride and joy has been the 120-year-old specimen, source of more than 300 different types of mango, each with their own taste, texture, color and size.
One of the earliest varieties he named “Aishwarya” after a Bollywood star. To this day, it remains one of his “best creations.” Others he named in memory of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and cricket hero Sachin Tendulkar. “People will come and go, but the mangoes will remain forever, and years after, whenever this Sachin mango will be eaten, people will remember the cricketing hero,” said Khan.
His complex but effective grafting method has won him numerous awards, among them one of India’s highest civilian honors in 2008, which is especially significant as his lifelong dedication comes at a crucial time for the country’s mango industry. India, the largest producer of mangoes, accounts for half the global output. But a heat wave in 2022 destroyed 90 percent of the local crop, according to the All-India Mango Growers Association. Furthermore, the number of varieties has also fallen, which Khan blames on the widespread use of cheap fertilizers and insecticides. Growers also plant too many trees packed too tightly together, leaving no space for moisture to settle on the leaves, he says.
“These old ways and new threats are a danger,” Khan admits, looking at his legendary tree. “Yet it isn’t just my story — it’s a living legacy for those who follow.”
24. What can be inferred about Khan’s first grafting experiment
A. Failure is the mother of success.
B. Good things come to those who wait.
C. A bad workman always blames his tools.
D. Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.
25. Why did Khan name his mango varieties after celebrities
A. To raise the fruits’ market price.
B. To show respect for those he admired.
C. To seek sponsorship from these celebrities.
D. To follow a common practice of fruit naming.
26. How does Khan view the current Indian mango industry
A. Optimistic and proud.
B. Desperate and critical.
C. Cautious but conservative.
D. Concerned but hopeful.
27. What is the main purpose of the article
A. To praise a dedicated fruit grower.
B. To describe a legendary mango tree.
C. To explain a scientific grafting method.
D. To call for the protection of mango diversity.

A recent report reveals a striking cultural shift: searches for “analog hobbies” on the arts and crafts store website have increased by 136% in the past six months and yarn kits — sometimes categorized as a “grandma hobby” — increased 1,200% in 2025. But this trend likely took off even earlier, as people had long been searching for ways to cope with isolation and anxiety.
So what exactly are “analog hobbies” In an era dominated by AI and smart devices, a quiet resistance is forming. Advocates of “analog lifestyle” go beyond a short break from screens, committing sustainably to slower-paced, more practical ways of working and enjoying entertainment — it seems a modern version of a mindfulness approach, focusing on slowing down, doing less, and being more engaged in our lives.
This movement is a direct response to digital fatigue (疲劳). Nowadays, we are reminded and alarmed by news updates, breaking stories, and other daily distractions. Constant exposure to online content can affect our nervous systems — our cortisol (皮质醇) pumps through our bodies as a protective factor against stressful, frightening, or negative stimuli. However, too much cortisol means physical discomfort and, even anxiety, panic, or panic attacks. So, to overcome this fatigue and rush of cortisol, slowing down is a good choice. The idea of an “analog lifestyle” builds on this widely accepted concept. When knitting a scarf, for example, you must pay full attention. Distraction means mistakes. This focused engagement does more than resist external noise; it allows our nervous systems to calm down and find a balance.
Psychologically, the appeal of such activities echoes Ernst Kris’s concept of “adaptive regression” — a movement backward from adult reality to childhood make-believe. While the analog movement is not suggesting that we return to an infantile state, it is, much in line with Kris’ idea, advocating for a return to simplicity.
At its core, this simplicity is not about rejecting technology, but about reclaiming our attention. A digital clock shouts the time; an analog clock requires you to read it. Similarly, in a rushed world, this trend means choosing to slow down, look closely, and reconnect with the present moment.
28. What can we learn about the “analog lifestyle”
A. It has become a craze among young employees.
B. It encourages short breaks from digital devices.
C. It involves a shift to slower and hands-on living.
D. It focuses on sharing hobbies with online groups.
29. Which activity can effectively fight digital fatigue according to the passage
A. Dancing along with energetic music.
B. Practicing mindful breathing attentively.
C. Watching a relaxing comedy on a tablet.
D. Using a time-tracker to control screen time.
30. Why is Ernst Kris’s concept mentioned in Paragraph 4
A. To introduce a renowned psychologist.
B. To explain the rise of the analog lifestyle.
C. To stress the value of childhood simplicity.
D. To provide theoretical support for the trend.
31. What is the main idea of the last paragraph
A. Simple products win more popularity.
B. Life is about making constant choices.
C. It is vital to stay focused on the present.
D. Advanced technology takes our joy away.

More than a dozen studies have found that cancer patients who receive immunotherapy drugs earlier in the day appear to have a lower risk of their condition worsening and even dying. To put it to the test, a research team led by Francis Lévi at Paris-Saclay University conducted the first randomized controlled trial on chronotherapy (时序疗法), which involves timing treatments according to the body’s internal clock.
The study included 210 lung cancer patients, all of whom received four doses of immunotherapy. Every three weeks, half of the participants were given a dose before 3 p.m., while the other half received it later in the day. Shortly after, all underwent chemotherapy (化疗), which is considered less sensitive to timing. This schedule was strictly followed for the first four cycles. After that, participants continued receiving the same drugs as needed, but without specific timing restrictions, as previous research suggests the initial four cycles are crucial for long-term survival benefits.
The researchers followed participants for an average of 29 months after their first dose. They found that those initially treated before 3 p.m. survived for an average of 28 months, compared to only 17 months for those treated later. “The effects are absolutely huge,” Lévi said. “It’s a nearly doubling in survival time.” An expert also noted that, “Compared to major trials for newly approved drugs, those drugs rarely have this large an effect. The study’s design provides strong evidence that adjusting treatment timing truly improves outcomes.”
The benefits may result from the immune cells called T-cells. They tend to gather around tumours in the morning before gradually moving into the bloodstream later in the day, so giving the immunotherapy earlier in the day allows the T-cells to attack the tumour more efficiently.
Despite this breakthrough, further work should explore whether delivering cancer therapies at more specific times — such as exactly 11 a.m. — has further benefits. We also need to know if controlling timing beyond the first four cycles could bring bigger benefits. The best timings may also vary between early risers and night owls, whose immune systems may fluctuate distinctly throughout the day, and whether these findings apply to other types of cancer.
32. What’s the purpose of Lévi and his team’s new study
A. To see how T-cells move in the body.
B. To test a new type of immunotherapy drug.
C. To compare chemotherapy with immunotherapy.
D. To confirm that treatment timing affects survival.
33. Why was the schedule only fixed for first four cycles
A. Earlier studies showed its significance.
B. Patients couldn’t tolerate longer treatment.
C. The drugs stopped working after four cycles.
D. Hospitals couldn’t manage long-term scheduling.
34. Which word can best replace the underlined word “fluctuate” in the last paragraph
A. Change. B. Strengthen. C. Stabilize. D. Weaken.
35. What would be the best title for the text
A. T-Cells: The Key to Unlocking Cancer Treatment
B. A New Drug Breakthrough: The Power of Immunotherapy
C. Timing Matters: How Treatment Schedules Can Fight Cancer
D. A Personalized Future: Tailoring Treatment to Your Body Clock

I’d completely forgotten the rules about liquids in carry-on luggage. So when I went through airport security, my heart instantly sank — my favorite watercolor set might be seized. I immediately begged the security attendant to let me take it on the plane, explaining it was a gift from my grandma, for she knew how passionate I was about painting.
The security attendant, a kind-faced woman with a faint paint stain on her uniform sleeve, checked my ID and boarding pass for a long time. She glanced down at the well-worn watercolor set — its case decorated with childlike sunflower sketches, clearly drawn by a kid — and then back at my red, tear-filled eyes. A faint, nostalgic (怀念的) smile crept at her lips. I later learned that she’d thought of her own granddaughter, a young artist who’d sobbed bitterly over seized paints during a trip years before. Rules were rules, she knew that, but some things felt far too precious to simply dump into a trash bin.
I held the watercolor set stubbornly, whispering over and over, “It’s from my grandma. I was gonna use it at the art camp.” She gave me a soft, reassuring look, patted my shoulder gently, then gently took the watercolor set and carefully placed it into a small box beside her desk.
I held my breath, hoping against hope. Then she smiled professionally and said: “Have a pleasant flight!” With those words, I knew it was over. The loss of grandma’s gift left a sharp ache in my heart. Finally, I turned away, dragging my feet toward my gate, and boarded the plane to the art camp.
The art camp was bittersweet. I made some friends and learned a lot, but I felt empty without my grandma’s paints. Watching my classmates create colorful works, I felt a sharp pain of sadness. A week flew by, and soon it was time to go home. As I walked slowly toward the baggage claim area at the airport, tired but hopeful, I had no idea what a lovely surprise was waiting for me.

Dear Editor,
I firmly support keeping stray cats on our campus. Caring for these weak animals helps us develop compassion and a sense of responsibility, which are vital for our growth.
To ensure a harmonious coexistence between stray cats and the campus community, we can take practical and proper measures. First, we can set up a volunteer group to take turns feeding the cats. Second, we can ask local animal rescue groups for help to give the cats vaccinations and deworming.
I hope that my suggestions will be helpful for the proper care of campus stray cats.
Yours,
Li Hua
【答案】One possible version:
Suddenly, a familiar figure caught my eye. It was the kind security attendant, standing by the baggage carousel with a small box in her hand. She waved at me with a warm smile and I hurried over, my heart beating fast. “I remembered your flight and art camp,” she said gently, pointing at the bold art camp name on my art bag and handing me the box. “I kept your watercolor set safe for you — grandma’s gift shouldn’t be left behind.” Her words made my eyes burn with tears, and I could only mumble a soft “thank you” repeatedly.
When I opened the case, my favorite watercolor set lay there quietly. The sunflower sketches on the case were still as bright as ever, just like the day grandma gave it to me. I held the set tightly in my hands, the sharp ache in my heart replaced by warm joy. It wasn’t just the paints I’d got back, but the kindness from a stranger that made this trip unforgettable. This trip taught me that rules keep life in order, but it’s the kindness beyond rules that warms people’s hearts. I knew this little warm moment would stay with me forever, as precious as grandma’s gift.
