High School Programmes in Australia
Beautiful weather, friendly people and a widely varied landscape are just a few of the reasons you should
choose to spend time in Australia as a high school student. Here are some programmes you can choose from.
High School Exchange
Individuals studying for a semester or full year in Australia will usually live with a host family. This is a great
opportunity for students to see what daily family life is like in Australia. Students learning English will see their
language skills improve by communicating with their new friends and host family, while those familiar with the
language already can use this opportunity to learn more about the day-to-day life in Australia.
Youth Travel Tours
Travel tours for teens are a wonderful way for high school students to spend a short, concentrated amount of
time abroad. Tours are usually for different themes such as cooking, adventure travel, or volunteerism. Students
will have a fun, unique experience while incorporating educational components like environmental or cultural
studies — and all without missing your normal coursework back home.
Summer Study Programme
For students who only have a few months of the summer break available, an advanced summer programme is
perfect. Just keep in mind, the summer of the northern hemisphere (半 球 ) is actually the winter of Australia.
Oftentimes these summer programmes can be partnered with universities that will allow students to receive college
credits.
21. What can High School Exchange offer
A. A good command of what we learn at school.
B. A better understanding of Australian culture.
C. A wonderful way to communicate with famous teachers.
D. A precious chance to make friends from different countries.
22. Who may want to choose Youth Travel Tours
A. Those who have ever been volunteers.
B. Those who want to take a part-time job.
C. Those who like doing adventure sports.
D. Those who are interested in cooking.
23. Which programme should you choose if you want to earn college credits
A. Summer Study Programme. B. Youth Travel Tours.
C. High School Exchange. D. All of the programmes.

Growing up, I understood one thing about my dad: He knew everything. In my teen years, he taught me things
I’d need to know to survive in the real world: how to drive a stick shift, how to check the car tyre’s (轮胎) pressure,
and the correct knife to use to cut a cantaloupe.
When I moved out on my own, I called him at least once a week, usually when something broke in my
apartment and I needed to know how to fix it: the toilet, the air-conditioning, the wall, once, when I threw a shoe at
a terrifying spider.
But then, eventually, I needed him less. I got married, and my husband had most of the knowledge I lacked
about gutter (排水沟) cleaning and water heaters and nondestructive insect removal. For everything else, we had
Google. I didn’t know when it happened, but our conversations turned into six words when I called. Me: “Hi, Dad.”
Him: “Hi, sweet. Here’s Mom.”
I loved my dad, of course, but I wondered at times if maybe he had already shared everything I needed to
know. Maybe I’d heard all his stories. Maybe, after knowing a man for 40 years, there’s nothing left to say. Then,
two summers ago, my husband, our four kids and I moved in with my parents for three weeks while our house was
being painted. They owned a lake house, and my dad asked me to help him rebuild the bulkhead (舱壁). It was a
hard and manual job. We got wet and sandy. But as we put the new bulkhead together piece by piece, my dad knew
exactly what went where. I looked at him, “How do you know how to build a bulkhead ” “I spent a summer in
college building it on the Jersey Shore.”
“You did ” I thought I knew everything about my dad, but I never knew this. I realized that maybe it’s not that
there’s nothing left to say. Maybe it’s just that I’ve spent my life asking him the wrong questions. That day, my dad
talked about what he had learned and what he could do excitedly. We chatted and chatted for a long time.
A few weeks later, after my family and I moved back into our painted house, I called my parents. “Hi, sweets,”
he said. “Here’s Mom.” “Wait, Dad,” I said. “How are you ” We ended up talking about everything he was
working on. To anyone else, it would sound like a normal conversation between a dad and his daughter. But to me,
it was novel and a new beginning. I spent the first part of my life needing to talk to my dad. Now I talk to him
because I want to.
24. Why did the author feel that she needed to call her dad before she got married
A. She called to keep in touch with him.
B. She wanted to talk to him for knowledge.
C. She knew her parents missed her so much.
D. She complained to him about daily troubles.
25. Why hadn’t the author got something to talk with her father before she moved back to be with him
A. Her father was old and he didn’t keep up with the world.
B. Her father always thought he was right in everything.
C. She didn’t have more to learn from him than she thought.
D. She spent her younger ages asking him too many questions.
26. What does the father’s answer “Hi, sweet. Here’s Mom.” mean
A. The author’s mother is answering the phone.
B. The author’s mother knows what has happened.
C. He will give the phone to the author’s mother.
D. He finds the author’s mother sweet and kind.
27. Which of the following words best describe the father
A. Creative and faithful. B. Selfless and brave.
C. Inspiring and generous. D. Loving and experienced.
C
For a vast majority of us, our smartphones are the lifeline. If it is lost, a lot is unachievable, such as getting
guided to work and ordering coffee. This sounds like a nightmare (噩梦), but it is not exactly far-fetched.
Despite being more digitally connected than ever, we are lonelier and more anxious. Anxiety rates increased
by 25% globally. Depression now affects over 280 million people worldwide. All of this arises from our growing
dependence on social media and smart technologies designed to offer quick relief but often at the expense of deep,
meaningful activities.
While these conveniences offer short-term relief, they may weaken our thinking skills. For example, GPS has
undeniably transformed the way we travel. But a 2020 study found that frequent GPS users struggle more with
self-guided exploration. Over time, those who relied more on GPS showed a sharp decrease in spatial memory and
problem-handling skills. However, reducing dependence on these conveniences can result in discomfort. In seeking
comfort today, we might be trading away some discomfort.
That is the problem: the very discomfort we avoid is often what strengthens us. Regarding stress, a kind of
discomfort, as a challenge rather than a threat leads to better outcomes. Research shows that mild stress can
improve adaptability. Neuroscience (神经科学) reveals that neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability to form new
connections — is sharpened through challenging experiences. This adaptability counts for developing resilience
(抗逆力), a process fueled by both mental challenges and active effort.
But this doesn’t mean we should abandon comfort entirely; it’s to balance it with intentional discomfort.
Think of it as small and manageable difficulties that keep our mental and emotional muscles strong, such as writing
with a pen, or washing dishes by hand. These small acts are enough to reawaken the resilience we’ve buried under
layers of ease. So, the next time you feel the pull of ease, pause. Ask yourself: Is this momentary comfort helping
me grow or is it keeping me stuck Choosing discomfort isn’t easy, but sometimes, it’s worth it.
28. What does the underlined word “far-fetched” in Paragraph 1 probably mean
A. Likely to change. B. Certain to solve. C. Hard to believe. D. Easy to appear.
29. What may digital conveniences cause according to the text
A. The fast but insignificant relief. B. The meaningful involvement.
C. The lack of necessary comfort. D. The loss of thinking ability.
30. Which is a real-life application of intentional discomfort
A. Exploring a city by using GPS.
B. Ordering take-out food after work.
C. Writing an email using voice-to-text.
D. Taking the stairs instead of the lift.
31. What is the purpose of the text
A. To persuade readers to avoid comfort.
B. To encourage readers to embrace discomfort.
C. To urge readers to employ smart technologies.
D. To remind readers to think creatively.
D
Recycling is a great way of doing your bit for the environment and helping to protect the earth’s precious
resources. However, a new study has revealed that our desire to be sustainable maybe doing more harm than good.
According to waste company Biffa, this is because of “wish-cycling” — assuming that items such as disposable
(一次性的) coffee cup sand pizza boxes will be recycled if put in the recycling bin. In fact, pollution from those
items or other non-recyclables can result in recyclable items that have been put in the correct bin going to landfill.
David Heaton, a business director at Biffa, said: “Pollution happens when items are thrown in the wrong bins or
haven’t been cleaned before being recycled.”
Experts at Biffa analyzed the amounts of non-target and non-recyclable materials that entered UK material
recycling facilities between 2016 and 2020. It was found that, in 2016, the average pollution rate of recycling waste
was 13.4 percent, rising over four years to 17 percent by the end of 2020. This shows that, even as people are
becoming more eco-conscious, wish-cycling is increasing both in households and businesses.
The Biffa experts say that one of the best ways to prevent pollution of recycling is to clean recyclable waste
before putting it in the bin. They suggest cutting off the top of old pizza boxes and only recycling that part to avoid
pollution from the grease (油脂). Check the on-packaging recycling label to check it can actually be recycled.
When it comes to plastics, Biffa recommends checking the resin code, the number in the plastic triangle, to know
whether it should go in the recycling bin. In general, resin codes 1, 2, 4 and 5 are recyclable, while 3, 6 and 7 are
not. Larger items, like electronics, furniture and batteries, can also be recycled but often can not go in household
recycling bins as they need specialist separating. These will need to be taken to recycling centers or sustainable
waste management companies.
“It’s vital as a nation that we get better at effective ‘pre-cycling’ — sorting waste correctly before collection
to reduce pollution rates,” added Mr. Heaton.
32. What’s the truth of “wish-cycling” according to the first paragraph
A. The good intention to help recycling.
B. The desire to lead a sustainable life.
C. The habit of throwing items that end up in landfills.
D. The practice of recycling items that can not be recycled.
33. What has experts at Biffa concluded after their analysis
A. People are becoming more eco-conscious.
B. Wish-cycling is on the rise in recent years.
C. Pollution happens less frequently in recycling facilities.
D. People are used to cleaning recyclable waste before putting it in the bin.
34. Which of the following is a proper way of recycling
A. Throw electronics together with household waste.
B. Skip the step of checking the on-packaging recycling label.
C. Check the resin code of plastics to see whether it is recyclable or not.
D. Cut off the top of old pizza box and throw the rest to the recycling bin.
35. Which is the most suitable title for the text
A. Recycling: a Big Project B. Wish-cycling: a New Trend
C. Pre-cycling: an Effective Method D. Wish-cycling: a Growing Concern
第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两处为多余选项。
What makes sports stars so good at what they do How can a violinist effortlessly perform a challenging piece

36 More specifically, it can be termed “overlearning”. Overlearning happens when you practice or
study something even after you’ve already mastered it.
37 However, it doesn’t always stay there. If that skill or information isn’t used again soon after, the
brain will clear it away. This is a big challenge not only for teachers and trainers but also for learners.
Some factors can help keep the learning in place. 38 Interaction (互动) is necessary. If the process
makes the learner laugh or struggle, or it requires additional help, it is less likely to be forgotten. Besides, when the
information is revisited regularly, the brain recognizes its importance.
But how can we keep revisiting the same points in training practices without becoming bored That’s where
overlearning is important. Skills and knowledge should be revisited in different ways. For example, in tennis,
serving (发球) is extremely important, and there are seven steps in achieving a perfect serve. Coaches will get
players to practice each of those seven stages repeatedly. 39 The learning goal remains the same; it’s the
method that changes.
While overlearning has its advantages, it can also create a false sense of mastery. If you’ve practised
something over and over again, you can certainly be highly fluent (流畅的). But it’s easy to confuse fluency and
understanding. For instance, there’s a big difference between knowing all the features of a product and effectively
using those features to make a sale. 40
A. Testing is good for active learning.
B. The answer lies in learning through repetition.
C. Students benefit from overlearning difficult texts.
D. To prevent boredom, they’ll introduce various ways.
E. Applying knowledge is just as important as storing it.
F. Primarily, information should be learned in an active way.
G. Newly learned information remains in our brain for a while.

My brother Jack was so smart that he earned a full scholarship (奖学金) to Harvard. I often wished he wasn’t
so perfect because it made me feel like I had to work twice as hard just to prove myself to others. On one hand, his
success was a challenge that I enjoyed, but on the other hand, it was a heavy pressure that I struggled to deal with.
To balance his record in high school, I felt like I was constantly running, devoting every moment to a non-stop
race. There was no room for relaxation as I pursued that perfect record. My life seemed to be packed with a series
of endless tasks and deadlines.
“I needed an A,” I repeated to myself before the biology test, so that I would maintain my perfect record and
secure a place on the honor list. I studied till the last minute of lunch and rushed to class. I felt a sense of
confidence as I glanced over the first page of the test, quickly filling in the answers with a smile. However, as I
turned to the last page, my mind went blank. Time ticked by, and soon, the classroom began to empty as students
finished their tests and left, except me. “Lara, class ended. I need you to hand in your test,” Mrs. Phloem said,
stretching out her hand. Unwillingly, I handed her the test paper.
The next day, I received my test back. I stared, speechless, at the red mark: 76. Not even a B minus, my mind
screamed. Just average. It’s over. No perfect record. I felt an unprecedented (前所未有的) sense of frustration and
disappointment. After school, I dragged my heavy feet back home. When I pushed open the door, Jack was sitting
on the sofa, reading. Seeing his leisurely state, I cried, hard to contain the jealousy (嫉妒) and sadness in my heart.
Jack immediately noticed the depression on my face. He asked with concern, “What’s wrong, Lara ” Blinded by
frustration mixed with a touch of jealousy, I shouted at him “How I wish you were not so perfect!”

Dear Anxiety,
I’m sorry to know that you are experiencing a tough time now. Actually, everyone seems to have one of those
periods when they are under great pressure, so there is no need to worry too much.
In my opinion, sharing your feelings with your friends is a wise choice as you can remove your negative
emotions. Another effective suggestion is that you should take more physical exercise, which can lift your spirits.
Also, keep an optimistic attitude towards life about your future.
I hope my advice will be of benefit to you. May you get rid of your trouble soon.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
67.读后续写:
With a hint of hurt and surprise in his eyes, Jack gently approached me. He placed a hand on my shoulder
and asked me again what had happened. I took out my test paper and told him that I would never match up to him
in a choked voice. Jack’s smile grew warmer, and he gave my shoulder a reassuring squeeze. “You don’t have to
measure up to anyone and your worth isn’t defined by grades or achievements. You’re more than just a number on
a test. Remember that be yourself; everyone else is already taken.”
His words blew my depression away and changing my mindset. I was still engaged in endless tasks and
deadlines, but I no longer felt constrained by my brother’s shadow. Realizing that comparison is the thief of joy, I
strove for excellence instead of perfection, which is often unattainable and can lead to burnout. I felt a weight lifted
off my shoulders as I realized that my value wasn’t tied to a single test score. I felt more confident and less
overwhelmed as I know that believing in doing my best will always be the ultimate best score.

M: Have you ever been fired from a temporary job
W: No. I worked hard.
M: In a future permanent job, what would you like to be employed as
W: I’d like to be in marketing, not those jobs I did before just to make a living.
M: What exams must you pass for the next stage of your career
W: I have to do a marketing degree, and most universities want English, math and one other subject, like
psychology.
9. 【原文】M: Mary, how did it go with preparing your lessons
W: Well, this is actually the first time that I have ever taught in an elementary classroom, but I’m a bit stuck right
now. You know the topic I want them to research is a bit hard for pupils. I’m afraid that they won’t be able to
handle it on their own. So I need new ideas on designing more effective teaching methods. Mr Carter, do you have
any suggestions
M: Well, you should probably read this book, written by J. K. Simmons. He is a professor who just transferred here
last semester, but he is popular among students for his creative teaching methods. There’s an extensive range of
learning approaches mentioned in the book, including approaches for team research, which might be helpful to you.
W: You mean dividing the students into groups to do research I’ve never thought of this before. How does it work
M: Professor Simmons has already demonstrated how efficient this approach can be. Basically, it aims to increase
cooperation between students and help them develop their own voice and perspective.
W: I’ll check out the book as soon as possible.
10. 【原文】W: Hello, everybody. My name’s Ann. Thanks for turning up to listen to me talk about my career. I
hope that some of you will decide to take up nursing in the future because it is a fantastic job. First of all, I’ll tell
you a little bit about how I got started. I had no idea what I wanted to do until I was about 14, when I was listening
to a family conversation. My cousin was talking to my dad and telling him all about how much she enjoyed her
work. She was a nurse in a busy hospital. And I thought, yeah, that’s exactly what I’d like to do. When I told my
teachers that’s what I decided, they were very encouraging. But they did say that although I had always got good
marks in English and biology, I’d have to get a little better at math, or I wouldn’t be able to do the job. Well, I must
say, it wasn’t easy being a student nurse. It involved lots of late nights staying up to do my coursework. But I’d
known it would be like that. Anyway, I think I have one of the best jobs in the world. My sister is an accountant,
and although she earns far more than I do, I think my job is much more rewarding.
