When the headmaster came in, he told the boys, “I’ve just spoken to all your parents on the phone. They have allowed me to punish you in whatever way I see fit. You have caused a lot of extra work for our cleaner by writing on the walls today. But he won’t do the cleaning. It’s your duty now. Have you heard of “AI self-study rooms” It is a new business model in education, which has recently appeared in China. It is getting more and more attention, but people hold different opinions about it.
AI self-study rooms bring together AI learning tools, study monitors (监控) and a good learning environment. Students take online classes and do exercises with learning machines. At the same time, monitors help keep order. They also use AI to find students’ weak points and make personalized study plans for them.
A parent told Global Times that AI learning machines are more interactive than common online courses. They can analyze students’ learning and give them proper and challenging questions to reach their learning goals. “Now, students in the countryside can do virtual (虚拟的) biology experiments through AI self-study rooms. This was impossible before because of limited local resources,” said a teacher from Qinghai.
Some people praise AI self-study rooms for their advantages, but others think they are just for show. Some students say some AI learning machines are not smart enough. They cannot teach students in different ways and only give mechanical practice. Their updates are slow, and their fixed question banks often have mistakes, which may mislead students.
As for the price, it costs 200 yuan per hour on weekends and it is 20% off on weekdays. “We can’t afford this service. We have to think carefully about whether the price is worth the learning effect,” a parent from Jiangsu told Global Times.
“I believe AI is helpful to education. But as a new business, AI self-study rooms still face problems, such as poor integration (融合) and unbalanced quality. With continuous technology development, AI learning will become more important in the future,” said Professor Huang from the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences.
52.How does the writer introduce the topic
A.By telling a story. B.By showing a fact. C.By asking a question.
53.What can we learn about AI self-study rooms according to the passage
A.Only AI learning tools can be used in the rooms.
B.Monitors can use AI to make personal study plans for students.
C.Rural students can do more real experiments than before.
54.How much will you spend studying in AI self-study rooms for 2 hours on Friday
A.160 yuan. B.400 yuan. C.320 yuan.
55.What is Professor Huang’s attitude toward AI learning
A.He is against it. B.He is hopeful about it. C.He doesn’t care about it.
56.What is the best title of this passage
A.AI Self-Study Rooms: Good or Bad
B.A New Model: AI Self-Study Rooms
C.AI Learning for Rural Students

Stand-up comedy is a fun hobby where you tell jokes on stage to make people laugh. 67 Here’s how to get started.
◆ Watch and learn
A good first step is watching other comedians perform. Ask an adult to help you find some kid-friendly ones online. Pay attention to what kinds of jokes work well with the audience. 68
◆ Write your material
Think about who your audience will be and what they are interested in. For example, your friends would probably understand humor about school, but your grandparents may not. When you have an idea for a joke, write it down. 69 Then you can set up any characters or other information people need to understand the joke. Finish with the punchline, the final phrase or sentence of a joke providing the humor that makes people laugh.
◆ Pull everything together
Once you have several jokes written, you can put them together into a complete stand-up routine, called a “set”. Open with a strong joke. 70 They are also known as “bits” in comedy, which help link one story or bit to the next. End with a “closer,” one final strong joke that will leave your audience laughing.
◆ Practice your routine
71 Next, practice it confidently in front of your trusted friends or family members. Then it’s time to perform! A family party or school talent show can be a good place to start. Whatever the location, take a few deep breaths before you go on stage — and have fun!
A.Between jokes, you can include transitions.
B.It should have a beginning that interests the listeners.
C.Young comedians, like you, can create a stand-up comedy act.
D.Talk about things you know, like school life, funny friends, or pets.
E.This can help you learn different styles and how to make people laugh.
F.First do it in front of a mirror or record yourself and make any small changes.

As an English learner, you surely meet many new words. Are you having a hard time memorizing all of them Well, perhaps you can try the Method of Loci.
The Method of Loci, also known as the Memory Palace, is one of the oldest and most powerful mnemonic devices (记忆术). It was first described by the ancient Greek poet Simonides in the 5th century BC. Later, a Roman speaker Cicero let more people know about it.
How do people use the method First, choose a place they know very well in their minds. Then pick a fixed way. And put words or numbers in vivid images (生动画面) along the way. When they need to recall, mentally walk through the place and “collect” the images. This method works because the human brain remembers places and pictures much better than numbers, words or lists.
Suppose you have to memorize the first 10 places of pi (3.141592653). You might imagine a home. The door number is 314. Next to it, there is 1 paper cutting. Your 59-year-old aunt made it. Now, you walk by the shoe shelf. There you see 2 tiers (层) and 6 pairs of shoes placed on it. Then you look up. There is a family photo. 5 people and 3 dogs are in it.
And what if you have to remember a long shopping list (eggs, milk, yogurt, carrots, tofu...) With the Method of Loci, you might imagine exactly where all the things would go in the fridge after your shopping trip. While shopping, you can easily gather all the goods as you fill in the fridge in your mind.
Scientists say that everybody can learn and use the Method of Loci and become a “memory expert”. Are you ready to try this method
A powerful mnemonic device — Method Of Loci History: ▲ Simonides described it in the 5th century BC. ▲ Cicero 72 it later.
Steps: ▲ Choose a 73 place. ▲ Place vivid images in a fixed way. ▲ Walk through the place in 74 to recall.
Examples: ▲ Pi (3.141592653...) 75 ▲ A 76 .

Australia’s social media ban (禁令) for children under 16 — the first of its kind in the world — formally took effect on December 10, 2025.
The aim is to protect young people from some apps and platforms that encourage them to spend too much time on screens and show them content that can be harmful to their physical and mental health.
Quick Facts
●Under-16s are still allowed to view open social media content without an account (账号).
●If you’re under 16 or have friends who are, you can stay connected on messaging apps and platforms that allow all ages.
●Under-16s won’t get into trouble if they still have an account on an age-restricted (only for over-16s) platform, but the company may need to pay up to $49.5 million if it doesn’t take steps to prevent underage accounts.
●If something goes wrong while you’re on social media or anywhere else online, you can ask for support! Check our “I Need Help” page for young people.
Voices
Pia Monti, 13 The ban doesn’t really influence me because I only add my real-life friends on social media. I can still have fun with them in person. When I was younger, I couldn’t wait to join social media. Now, I don’t really care. I’ve realized that I’m able to connect with my friends without using social media.
Ewan Buchanan, 15 On the last day before the ban took effect, everyone was busy sharing phone numbers. Before the ban, very few of us did this. I’ve developed closer friendships with people I used to just greet. Before, I was one of the few without social media and was left out. What a happy accident!
Grace Guo, 14 The ban only prevents us from having social media accounts. I can still search for and watch videos on YouTube. But I haven’t been using technology as much since the ban came into effect.

How do Chinese students spend their time after school After finishing their classes, many students still have some homework to do. They usually study for about two hours each evening. The school day typically lasts around eight hours from morning until late afternoon. After school, students often join different activities. Many schools offer clubs like the Art Club, the Sports Club and the Music Club. Students meet at these clubs from around four pm to five pm. Joining a club is a great way for students to make new friends and learn new abilities. Besides clubs, some students go to classes to get help in subjects like math or English. This help can be important for some students, because it makes it easier for them to get good grades and tests. Others play sports such as basketball or football to relax themselves and keep healthy. Some students also help their parents with housework.
