第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Many parents and teachers today are feeling frustrated because children don’t behave the way they used to in the good old days. What happened Why don’t today’s children develop the same kinds of responsibility and motivation that seemed more common in children many years ago
There are many possible explanations, such as broken homes, too much television, video games, and working mothers. These factors are so common in our society today that the situation would seem rather hopeless if they really explained our current challenges with children.
Rudolf Dreikurs had another theory. There are many major changes that have taken place in society over the past few years that more directly explain the differences in children today. The first major change is that adults no longer give children an example or model of obedience. Adults forget that they no longer act the way they used to in the good old days.
Remember when Mom obediently did whatever Dad said because it was the culturally acceptable thing to do In the good old days few people questioned the idea that Dad’s decisions were final. Because of the human rights movement, this is no longer true. Mom quit giving the children a model of obedience. This is progress. Many things about the good old days were not so good.
Another major change is that in today’s society children have fewer opportunities to learn responsibility and motivation. Today children are given too much in the name of love without any effort or investment on their part and they develop an entitlement attitude. Too many mothers and fathers believe that good parents protect their children from all disappointment. They rescue or overprotect — thus robbing their children of the opportunity to develop a belief in their capability to handle the ups and downs of life.
Children do not develop responsibility when parents and teachers are too strict and controlling, nor do they develop responsibility when parents and teachers are permissive. Children learn responsibility when they have opportunities to learn valuable social and life skills for good character in an atmosphere of kindness, firmness, dignity, and respect.
1. Rudolf Dreikurs’s theory is intended to ________.
A. tell us what changes have taken place
B. prove today’s children lack motivation
C. analyse how our society has been developing
D. explain why today’s children don’t behave well
2. What attitude does the author take towards Mom’s obedience in the past
A. Curious. B. Doubtful. C. Negative. D. Favorable.
3. Why do children today lack a sense of responsibility according to the text
A. They are influenced by the Internet world.
B. They are given too much love without effort.
C. They are affected by the competitive society.
D. They are forced to learn too many skills.
4. What can be inferred from the last paragraph about raising responsible children
A. Strict rules are the most effective.
B. Permissiveness leads to independence.
C. Overprotection is beneficial to development.
D. A balanced approach works best.

Every year, nearly 30 million tons of plastic waste is either buried in landfills or ends up in the oceans. The microplastics pollution has become a global environmental crisis, threatening marine life and human health. However, a recent study published in Environmental Science & Technology Letters offers a surprisingly simple solution: boiling tap water may help remove up to 80 percent of microplastics.
The research was conducted by a team led by Chinese scientists, who investigated whether boiling tap water could effectively eliminate microplastics. When water is boiled, calcium carbonate (CaCO ) forms chalk-like deposits — commonly known as limescale. As the water temperature rises, these CaCO deposits act like traps, capturing microplastics in their crystal structures. After allowing water to cool for about ten minutes, the study found that the limescale with trapped microplastics could be removed by standard filtration or simply pouring the water through a standard coffee filter.
In tests with hard tap water — which contains higher levels of CaCO — the process captured about 80 percent of microplastics within five minutes of heating. Even in soft tap water with lower CaCO levels, the method still removed approximately 25 percent of microplastic particles.
“This simple, low-cost boiling water strategy could be particularly beneficial for households in developing countries where water treatment facilities are limited,” the researchers noted.
The study also pointed out that people have been drinking boiled water for centuries as a method of disinfection. But until now, no one had considered its potential for plastic removal. “We now provide convincing evidence that boiling water can also serve as an effective means of dealing with microplastic pollution,” the team concluded.
5. What is the main finding of the study mentioned in the text
A. Microplastics can be removed by chemical treatment.
B. Drinking boiled water poses health risks.
C. Boiling tap water can reduce microplastic content.
D. Limescale is a major cause of water pollution.
6. According to the study, how do CaCO deposits help remove microplastics
A. They dissolve the plastic particles into smaller pieces.
B. They trap the microplastics in crystal structures.
C. They cause microplastics to float to the surface.
D. They chemically break down microplastic molecules.
7. What does the underlined word “filtration” in Paragraph 2 most likely mean
A. Boiling. B. Freezing. C. Purification. D. Evaporation.
8. The study is likely to be most valuable for which population
A. People living in areas with poor water treatment facilities.
B. Factory workers in plastic manufacturing plants.
C. Researchers developing new plastic products.
D. Tourists visiting major cities with advanced water systems.
C
In a world where corporate success is often viewed as the ultimate goal, a quiet movement has been gaining momentum: the slow living movement. This philosophy, which encourages individuals to slow down and savor the present moment, represents a deliberate departure from the high-speed, high-stress lifestyle that has become the norm in modern society.
The term “slow living” is not a single unified concept but rather a set of overlapping principles that emphasize mindfulness, intentionality, and a deep appreciation for everyday experiences. According to Carl Honoré, author of In Praise of Slowness, the movement is not about doing everything at a snail‘s pace, but rather about doing everything at the right speed. “The secret is not trying to do everything faster,” Honoré writes, “but rather trying to do everything at the right speed, savoring the moments that are truly meaningful.”
The roots of slow living can be traced to the Slow Food movement, which began in Italy in the 1980s as a protest against the opening of a McDonald’s near the Spanish Steps in Rome. What started as a defense of local food traditions has since expanded into a comprehensive lifestyle philosophy. Today, slow living encompasses everything from slow travel and slow parenting to slow work and slow fashion.
Critics argue that slow living is a privilege available only to the wealthy, who can afford to work less and spend more time on leisure. There is some truth to this charge. The ability to choose a slower pace of life indeed requires a certain level of economic security. However, advocates contend that slow living is more about mindset than money. They argue that anyone can practice slowing down, whether by turning off notifications, taking a mindful walk, or simply sitting with a cup of tea without multitasking.
A growing body of research supports the benefits of slowing down. Psychological studies have shown that chronic busyness and multitasking can lead to increased stress, decreased productivity, and diminished well-being. In contrast, mindfulness practices—which are central to the slow living philosophy— have been linked to lower levels of anxiety, improved cognitive function, and greater life satisfaction.
9. What does Carl Honoré suggest about slow living
A. It means doing everything extremely slowly.
B. It is about finding the proper pace for activities.
C. It requires rejecting all forms of modern technology.
D. It can only be achieved by wealthy individuals.
10. The Slow Food movement started as ________.
A. a celebration of Italian cooking traditions
B. a reaction to the spread of fast food culture
C. a government initiative to reduce food waste
D. a marketing campaign for Italian restaurants
11. Which of the following would the author most likely agree with regarding the criticism of slow living
A. The criticism is completely false and has no merit.
B. The criticism has some validity but is not the whole picture.
C. The criticism is largely correct and the movement should end.
D. The criticism misses the point entirely.
12. What does the research mentioned in the last paragraph suggest about chronic busyness
A. It enhances productivity in the long run.
B. It is a necessary condition for career success.
C. It has negative effects on mental health and performance.
D. It is unavoidable in modern professional environments.
D
Teenagers‘ mental health has become a pressing global issue, with a recent survey showing that over 40 percent of young people aged 13 to 18 suffer from frequent anxiety. The root cause lies in the overuse of social media and increasing academic pressure.
Many teenagers spend more than four hours a day on social platforms, exposed to endless comparisons and negative comments that deepen their sense of inferiority. What surprises experts most is that most parents fail to notice the subtle changes in their children’s mental state, such as sudden withdrawal from social activities or persistent mood swings. Even though schools have launched some mental health courses, they are not designed to address the root causes of teenagers’ anxiety, leaving many young people without proper guidance when they are in trouble.
A team of psychologists from the University of Oxford suggests that parents should spend more quality time with their children, listening to their worries rather than just focusing on their exam scores. Although they may be busy with work, parents should try their best to accompany their children, as teenagers feel that their voices are heard and their feelings are valued only when they get enough care. It is also important that schools cooperate with professional mental health organizations so that professional counselors can work closely with teachers.
The survey also finds that taking part in regular physical activities or joining interest clubs helps teenagers reduce anxiety, for these activities help them release stress and build confidence. Solving the teenage mental health crisis requires joint efforts from families, schools and society. No matter how difficult the process may be, we must stick to it, because every young person deserves a healthy and happy adolescence.
13. What is the main problem regarding school mental health courses according to the text
A. They are too expensive for most schools.
B. Students show little interest in attending them.
C. They fail to target the fundamental causes of anxiety.
D. They put too much pressure on students.
14. What do the Oxford psychologists recommend parents do
A. Constantly check their children‘s exam scores.
B. Increase work hours to support their children financially.
C. Provide more focused attention and listen to their children‘s concerns.
D. Let their children deal with anxiety entirely on their own.
15. According to the last paragraph, the solution to the teenage mental health crisis _________.
A. requires cooperation between multiple parties
B. calls for individual effort from teenagers alone
C. depends entirely on government policies
D. will be solved quickly with new medicine

Physical activity offers numerous benefits for teenagers, but many adolescents today lead increasingly sedentary lives. 16.___________ However, with the right approach, teens can develop healthy exercise habits that will serve them well throughout their lives.
One of the most effective strategies is to encourage variety in physical activities. 17.____________ Boredom is one of the primary reasons teenagers abandon their workout routines. By mixing team sports, individual activities like swimming or rock climbing, and even active video games or dance, teens are more likely to stick with their exercise habits.
18.______________ Many teenagers feel self-conscious about their abilities, especially if they are not naturally athletic. Creating an environment where improvement is valued over winning and where mistakes are seen as learning opportunities can help reduce this anxiety.
Family involvement also plays a crucial role in sustaining teenage physical activity. 19.____________ Families who exercise together whether through weekend hikes, bike rides, or even just evening walks— demonstrate that being active is a normal, enjoyable aspect of daily life.
Finally, technology can be a powerful ally rather than an enemy in promoting teenage exercise. Fitness trackers, workout apps, and online exercise classes can provide motivation and a sense of community. 20.______________ The goal is not perfection but persistence—finding joy in movement and understanding that even small amounts of physical activity are beneficial to both body and mind.
A. Social pressure is another significant barrier teenagers face when it comes to exercise.
B. These tools can turn exercise into a game and help teens track their progress over time.
C. When teenagers feel pressured to compete, they often lose interest in physical activities.
D. Academic demands and excessive screen time have greatly reduced opportunities for physical activity.
E. Schools should be primarily responsible for ensuring students get enough exercise each week.
F. Teens are more likely to be active when they see their parents and siblings engaging in regular exercise.
G. Doing the same workout repeatedly quickly becomes dull for most teenagers.

I finished my last final exam of sophomore year, walked out of the exam hall, and instantly felt a weight lift from my shoulders. Summer vacation had finally begun.
My father was waiting for me in the parking lot, leaning against his old blue truck with a mysterious smile. “I have something for you,” he said, tossing me a heavy set of keys. I caught them with both hands, puzzled. They weren‘t car keys — my beat-up Toyota was still in the campus lot. These were old, rusted keys with a small brass tag that read “Camp Pines.”
“Camp Pines ” I read aloud, confused. “The summer camp where I was a counselor five years ago ”
My father shook his head, still smiling. “It’s yours. I bought the property last month. The camp went bankrupt in the spring and the bank was selling it cheap.”
I stared at him, dumbfounded. I had spent two of the best summers of my life at Camp Pines, teaching city kids how to paddle canoes and toast marshmallows. When the camp closed, I had mourned it like losing an old friend. But to actually own it That was impossible. I was a broke college student majoring in business, with zero experience running anything more complicated than my study schedule.
“Dad, I can‘t run a summer camp,” I protested.
“You’re not running it,” he replied. “You‘re going to save it.”
*He explained that the camp would be auctioned off in sixty days if someone didn’t pay back taxes and make a commitment to reopen. He had bought the property, but the deadline to clear the back taxes was approaching fast.

第四部分 写作
第一节
One possible version:
My Views on Digital Reading
Personally, I often turn to digital reading on my phone or tablet for its convenience. It allows me to carry an entire library wherever I go. However, digital reading has its drawbacks. Extended screen time can strain my eyes, and the constant pop-ups from social media break my concentration. Therefore, I suggest we strike a balance for the best outcome. Use e-readers for quick and efficient reading, but reserve paper editions for in-depth study and relaxation. The format matters less than the joy of reading itself.
第二节
One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
Walking through the camp, I saw how much work was needed — and how much beauty remained. Cabins needed new roofs, the dock was broken, and the dining hall was full of cobwebs. But the lake sparkled under the morning sun just as I remembered, and the towering pines still whispered in the breeze. I spent the afternoon making lists, calculating costs, and reaching out to old camp friends on social media. To my surprise, my professor offered business advice, my former coworkers volunteered to help repair cabins, and a local hardware store agreed to donate supplies.
Paragraph 2:
Sixty days later, on the morning of the auction deadline, I stood at the camp gate with a plan. Behind me were a dozen friends with paintbrushes and saws. In my hand was a business proposal for a nonprofit summer program that would offer scholarships to city kids. Local businesses had backed me, and a small bank had approved a loan based on my plan. When the officials arrived to assess the property, I handed them a thick folder and said, “Camp Pines is ready to open. You‘re looking at a community investment, not an abandoned camp.” By sunset, the back taxes were paid, and sixty kids were signed up for the first session.
