As a mushroom scientist, you are vastly outnumbered, with estimates suggesting that there are between 2.2 million and 3.8 million species of fungi (真菌), the majority of which are yet to be identified. However, professionals in the field are not alone in their efforts to uncover new species. An enthusiastic community of amateurs has emerged, bridging the gap between professionals and non-professionals. These amateurs have even made significant discoveries. One such amateur is Taylor Lockwood, a 74-year-old mushroom enthusiast and professional photographer.
In 1984, while living on the Mendocino coast of California, Taylor Lockwood developed a fascination with mushrooms. “Outside my cottage were these amazing mushrooms,” he says. “And it was as if these mushrooms looked at me and said, ‘Taylor, go out and tell the world how pretty we are.’” Lockwood answered their call and purchased camera equipment to capture their true nature. His passion for photographing mushrooms was so intense that he would even dig holes next to the mushrooms to get the perfect angle for his shots.
In the Monongahela National Forest, Taylor Lockwood discovered an unusual mushroom that looked like tiny fingers wearing off-white gloves. Upon deeper investigation, fungi researcher Amy Rossman confirmed that it was a “hazel glove” mushroom, which is a rare find. “Mushrooms are not like plants,” Rossman says. “They don’t come up at the same time every year, and so sometimes it can be decades between when a fungus fruits.” Rossman says that’s why it’s so valuable to have people like Taylor Lockwood searching through the forest with a trained eye.
A few years ago, Taylor Lockwood realized that still photos weren’t sufficient, so he chose to create time-lapse (延时拍摄的) videos of mushrooms. “When I do time-lapse, I see so much life happening around the mushrooms—insects, worms and other small creatures interacting with them,” he says. Lockwood’s love for art is evident in his approach to filming mushrooms over time. Although he appreciates the scientific aspect of his work, he identifies himself as an artist at heart.
24.What can we learn about mushroom amateurs from paragraph 1
A.They keep close track of the growth of fungi.
B.They help identify new species of mushroom.
C.They replace professional scientists in the field.
D.They classify the majority of mushroom species.
25.What inspired Lockwood to photograph mushrooms

D.The appeal of outdoor photography.
26.Which of the following best describes Lockwood according to paragraph 3
A.Skilled and observant.
B.Focused and flexible.
C.Talented and optimistic.
D.Organized and responsible.
27.Why did Lockwood decide to make time-lapse videos of mushrooms
A.To improve his photography techniques.
B.To capture dynamic life in an artistic way.
C.To collect biological data for deeper research.
D.To use a new approach to scientific studies.

Thanks to technology development, healthcare services are more accessible than ever. Hospitals have committed to digitally enabled care going mainstream and more health services have gone online than ever before. But are older people who don’t use the Internet being left behind
A study by Lancaster University found that lots of older people still avoid online life completely or use the Internet only on occasion. There are various reasons why older people don’t use the Internet. For many, a lack of confidence in their own ability to use technology raised fears about security, particularly with online banking.
Whatever the reasons are, one of the biggest concerns about an off line older generation is the likelihood that they will miss out on big developments in health accessibility, especially as many useful health services move online. Madeleine Starr MBE, director of business development and innovation at Carers UK, said, “Though many of us use technology in our everyday lives, seven out of ten people don’t yet think of technology when it comes to caring. So, many are not yet realizing the benefits of this technology. Accessing appointments, ordering prescriptions (处方) or having consultations online can all help reduce visits to doctors and unplanned hospital visits.”
In an aging society, the Internet can make a huge amount of difference to older people requiring a bit of extra support and those caring for them. “Advice from specialist websites or symptom checkers is great for those who are unsure if their symptoms are cause for concern or find it difficult to get to a doctor’s appointment. Technology is making it easier to offer remote care and support for older people, helping them remain independent. The information on the Internet can prevent older people from taking their health into their own hands,” adds Caroline Abrahams, charity director at Age UK.
However, services need to remain accessible to those who aren’t online. While it’s fine to support older people getting online, those who choose not to or cannot do so, for whatever reason, should not be treated like second-class citizens. They must still be able to access services in other ways that suit them.
28.What is the main purpose of paragraph 1
A.To list some important facts.
B.To raise a topic to be discussed.
C.To express the main idea of the text.
D.To introduce new advances in science.
29.What might be the big concern about off line older people
A.They will suffer from terrible loneliness.
B.They will face risks from online banking.
C.They will fail to benefit from advanced online healthcare.
D.They will underestimate the role of modern technology in healthcare.
30.Why does the author mention Caroline Abrahams’ words in paragraph 4
A.To stress the popularity of the Internet.
B.To reveal technology is developing very fast now.
C.To indicate the big challenges an aging society faces.
D.To show the Internet is of great importance to older people.
31.What is the message the author wants to convey in the last paragraph
A.Health services should get support from professionals.
B.Older people should be encouraged to place their health first.
C.Older people should receive some training in using the Internet.
D.Health services should be offered in ways that suit different people.

“If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound ” The philosopher George Berkeley once wondered.
Compared to real trees, the virtual ones catch more of our attention—you must be familiar with the 3D cartoon images that city planners use to illustrate green spaces. Adorable as they are, a new technology is reshaping the landscape. Meet “Tree-D Fusion (融合)”, an innovative 3D tree modeling method which has so far produced 600,000 virtual trees in local communities, and aims globally.
To create the “Tree-D” model, the researchers have used a mixed method. Besides using the traditional model to outline the shapes of branches and leaves, developers have also adopted AI deep learning. By feeding inputs like tree types, temperatures, and light conditions, the AI-driven model can not only monitor the trees’ growing process but show how the trees will grow in generated pictures based on the data. While the previous modeling method excels at recognizing static (静态的) features, the Tree-D Fusion can effectively present the trees’ changing nature, making it possible to forecast the trees’ growth.
“Even the slightest movement of branches in a gentle wind can be recorded,” says PhD student Jae Joong Lee, who created the technology. “Understanding these interactions with the environment can be significant for city planning.” For example, planners can tell when and where growing branches might get caught in power lines, or find the right locations where placing trees could improve cooling and air quality. If planners rely on traditional procedures, they have no choice but to make adjustments after the trees have grown and the problems show up.
“This is just the beginning,” says Lee. “We aim to design more sustainable urban communities globally, creating a closer connection between people and their living environments.”
32.Why does the author mention the question in paragraph 1
A.To introduce a new technology.
B.To stress the importance of trees.
C.To call attention to forest protection.
D.To encourage philosophical thinking.
33.What is an advantage of the Tree-D model over the traditional one
A.It can recognise trees’ static features.
B.It can identify different types of trees.
C.It can produce numerous identical trees.
D.It can predict the dynamic growth of trees.
34.What can the “Tree-D Fusion” technology help with
A.Planning ahead in city tree positioning.
B.Making up for environmental damage.
C.Developing new power supply facilities.
D.Equipping planners with planting skills.
35.What is the best title for this text
A.AI Reducing the Need for Real Trees.
B.AI Tree Modeling Aiding City Design.
C.Tree-D Fusion Making Trees Grow Faster.
D.3D Trees Enhancing Community Connections.

Understand your pet’s body language
Body language is different depending on what sort of animal you have chosen as your pet. 36 Understanding your pet’s body language will help you to be a better communicator, as you can even copy some of its movements, expressions and sounds to send your message in a way it understands.
· 37 If your dog isn’t looking directly at you, but is looking out of the corners of its eyes so that you see a lot of the whites of the eyes, it might be about to have an aggressive outburst. If your dog is feeling stressed or aggressive, its wide eyes will be accompanied by a rigid(绷紧的) body.
·If your cat looks at you and blinks at you slowly, it’s likely communicating affection. 38 For cats, closing one’s eyes in the presence of another is a way to show trust. If your cat feels threatened, its tail will likely be upright; its back will likely be arched, too.
· 39 If your bird’s pupils (瞳孔) enlarge and shrink rapidly, this can be a sign that it’s excited or greatly interested, or scared or angry. 40 Birds will shake their feathers while cleaning themselves; if their feathers remain shaking, however, this could mean they’re unwell, in which case, take them to an animal doctor for a checkup.
A.Pets’ health depends on your daily care.
B.You can do this back at your cat to show your love, too.
C.The context is important in telling which emotion it might be.
D.Birds can be quite expressive through their eyes, feathers, and voices.
E.When dogs feel stressed out or threatened, their eyes will look larger than normal.
F.Once familiar with each other’s presence and body language, cats and dogs can play together.
G.If you’re unsure of your pet’s body language, consider reading some articles for your specific animal.

One morning, my family and I woke up and went to eat breakfast—until we heard barking and scratching at the door. When my mom opened the door, we saw a puppy. We looked around to see if we saw its owner, but there was no one. We took it inside and fed it.
Regardless of how badly I wanted to keep the puppy, we decided to look for the owner. We looked all day, but we failed. We talked about whether we should keep looking or look the next day. We all agreed to look for its owner the next day.
So, the next day my family and I looked for the dog’s owner. It was so hard looking for its owner. We were looking for flyers(传单) that involved the puppy, but no luck. We wouldn’t have quit because it’s a puppy.
“We won’t stop looking,” my mom and dad said. We were going to take care of the puppy until we found its owner.
When we woke up in the morning, we went to a pet shop to buy the puppy some dog food. After that we went back home to feed the puppy the dog food that we had just bought. After we fed the puppy, we gave it a nice bath. It was so dirty that the fur was black and sticky, but after we gave it a bath, it turned white. And I noticed there was a collar (狗项圈) on it, which said “Coby”. We went to look for the puppy’s owner, but my mom stayed at home, and it was only my dad and me this time.
We continued looking more and more until we found flyers. We looked at it.It said,“Lost Dog:Please Help if Found.” Then we looked at the picture;it looked exactly like Coby. We were all happy we found a flyer that was for Cody.

(17)Boys and girls,
Today,I’ll talk about how to get higher scores in a math test.Do you have a tough math test coming up How do you feel Are you stressed Does your mind go blank while taking the test Don’t be nervous.Just take it easy. Here is good news for you.Recently, researchers did an experiment.(20) They asked a group of students to listen to some piano music by a famous 18th century composer before taking a math test. They were surprised to find that the students’ scores jumped by eight to nine points on average.Meanwhile,(18) they discovered that classical music could excite a student’s brain activities.Similar activities also occur when a person is figuring out a math problem. However, researchers warned that before applying this method to your math test,(19) you should remember that brain-exciting effects only last 10 to 15 minutes.Would rock music work as well as the piano music do “No,” say the scientists. As a matter of fact, noisy music might even weaken a person’s reasoning ability.
Thank you for listening.Good luck!

故填was released。]
故填has earned。]
故填who。]
故填a。]
故填more complex。]
留下深刻印象”,短语为impress sb with sth,故用介词with。故填with。]
本句谓语为is expected,此处为非谓语动词,be expected to do sth“被期望做某事”,故用动词encourage “鼓励”的不定式,作主语It的补足语。故填to encourage。]

Dear Rick,
I’m delighted to know that you are going to write an article about Chinese poems. My favorite poet is Du Fu, who is regarded as one of the greatest poets in Chinese history. He is quite productive, having left about 1,500 poems behind, most of which are still popular today. I love him not only because he has written many great poems, but because he has shown deep concern for the ordinary people.
I think Du Fu:China’s Greatest Poet, a 58-minute documentary produced by BBC, might be of great help. It has traced Du’s steps all over China and translated 15 of his poems into English. I’m sure you will enjoy it!
Best wishes.
Yours,
Li Hua

There was a phone number on the flyer.

We found the lady’s house, and then we knocked on the door.

There was a phone number on the flyer. My dad called it and someone answered; it was a lady. My dad asked whether she was the one who put out the flyers. She said “Yes!” with excitement and told us Coby, who was very dear to her, had been gone days before. Then we told her that we had her puppy and that we would take him to her. She told us her address at once; then we went to it.
We found the lady’s house, and then we knocked on the door. A lady opened the door, and when she saw the puppy, she screamed with joy. We handed her the puppy, feeling proud. She wanted to give us a reward for taking care of her puppy for her, but we said it was OK because we were really happy to help. So we went home tired but content, telling my mom the whole thing. My family became friends with the lady, and we were all happy.
