In December, 2025, a terrible tsunami hit Japan. There was a huge earthquake under the sea. Huge waves rushed towards the land. They caused serious damage (损害), and many families lost their homes.
Japan is not the only country that has experienced a large tsunami. In 2004, there was a big earthquake under the Indian Ocean. The tsunami reached many countries, such as Thailand, Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
In Sri Lanka, something interesting happened before the tsunami arrived. Just before the big waves came, many animals started to run away. Elephants were very nervous and tried to get far from the sea. Flamingos flew off together and left the area. But the tsunami was a big shock to humans — no one knew it was coming. So how did the animals know about it earlier than people did
In Japan, some people are trying a new animal warning system (系统). Many believe that animals, such as dogs or chickens, become nervous before an earthquake. In Susaki, a small town in Japan, people check how their pets behave. If they notice that their cat or dog looks worried, they can call a special phone number.
Can animals really predict (预测) earthquakes and other natural disasters Can they save lives No one really knows. But perhaps animals know more than we do.

① There are so many accidents in our daily life, which cause many people to lose their lives. Except for accidents, natural disasters are also a threat (威胁) to people’s lives. What can we do if we are caught in them
② Floods take thousands of lives every year. The easiest way to keep yourself safe is to get to higher grounds like the top of a building. Do not try to swim across a river because no matter how good a swimmer you are, the water will run too quickly for you. Another important thing is not to panic (慌张), shout or do anything that may make you weak. Save your energy and wait for help.
③ These years, earthquakes happen more often than in the past. Luckily, nowadays, a few seconds before the earthquake comes, your mobile phones can receive warnings. Pay attention to them. If you are at home, turn off electricity and gas as quickly as possible.
④ Fire is also dangerous. If your clothes are on fire, do not run around, hoping the wind will help put out the fire. The right thing to do is to roll (打滚) on the ground. Do not use elevators (电梯) when fire happens. Smoke can choke (呛) you, so prepare a wet towel and lower your body to avoid smoke. If you have to get out of the building, try to use sheets (床单) as a life-saving rope. Never jump directly out.
28.If your clothes are on fire, what’s the right thing you should do
A.We should run around and let the wind help put out the fire. B.We should use elevators.

C.You should use sheets as a life-saving rope.
D.You should lower your body to avoid the smoke.

Typhoons are some of the worst storms, usually around the Pacific Ocean and the South China Sea. Most happen in July, August and September.
32 When lots of sea water gets hot in the summer sun, it evaporates (蒸发) into the air. This makes the air hotter. When the air gets warm enough, it starts to move higher up into the sky. Then cooler air around it rushes in. It fills the space that is left. After the air gets warmer, it starts to move quickly, making wind. The wind goes in circles (圆圈) and it keeps moving higher in the sky. 33 And when the wind moves faster than 30 metres a second, a typhoon begins.
A typhoon has two parts. One is called the “eye”. In the eye, the wind does not move so fast. The other part is the wall of clouds around the eye. This is where the strongest winds and hardest rain are.
34 In November 2013, Typhoon Haiyan killed around 6,000 people in the Philippines. More people were badly hurt and some others were missing.

·Stay inside. Close all the windows and stay away from them.
·Try to bring all of your things inside. Strong winds could even blow away your bikes!
·Listen to the radio or watch TV for important information.
·If you’re told to go to a safe place, do it right away.
(四)任务型阅读:请阅读下面短文,根据所提供的信息,回答4个问题。
Floods, droughts, storms, hot days…extreme (极端的) weather is becoming more and more common all over the world. This is caused by greenhouse gas emissions (温室气体排放) from human activities, reported China Daily.
Last summer, big storms hit areas of Europe. At least 13 people died in Austria, France and Italy by Aug. 19. In Portugal and Spain, huge wildfires have forced thousands to leave their homes. In the US, more than 80 percent of the west is in drought, causing three-quarters of farmers in these areas to stop growing food.
In China, the heat often hits the south. If you visit Chongqing this summer, you may see a very “dark” city: no more neon lights in the streets, with only a few lights on in shopping malls. The highest temperature there can reach 45℃! People there have no choice but to turn on the air conditioner the whole day, which is a big burden (负担) for the power system.
Extreme weather has also made 218 of the known 375 diseases more serious. You may have recently heard the word “thermoplegia (热射病)”. It is the most serious type of sunstroke (中暑). Many cases of death are reported to be caused by it. If people stay in high temperatures for too long, the heat will damage their organs (器官) and make people feel sick, even die.
36.Are there seven countries mentioned (提及) in the passage
37.What is thermoplegia
