Shared mobility: Making travel easier for all
In many big cities in Europe and the US, it might seem like we’ve achieved cheap and easy
mobility for everyone — just use your phone to find shared e-bikes and electric cars. But if
you’re elderly, living in a low-income area or imagine without a smartphone or credit card,
using these shared services becomes much more difficult. Here is a survey reporting barriers to
using bike sharing.
Shared mobility could be a key part of a more sustainable transportation system. But to be
most effective, it needs to include everyone. For-profit shared mobility providers have largely
failed to deliver on this, but various initiatives and projects are finding creative solutions to
reach underserved communities.

design, these efforts aim to make mobility available to everyone, reduce reliance on private

important to bring in different views in the development of mobility, ” says Lina Mosshammer,
founder and CEO of the Austrian mobility consulting company Point.

Each morning, the gentle tap of chisels echoes through a small workshop in Jingdezhen,
China’s “Porcelain (瓷器) Capital”. At 72, Master Chen Guosheng sits before a spinning wheel,
his hands steady as he shapes a lump of kaolin into a delicate porcelain vase. The motion looks
easy, but it is the fruit of over 60 years of continuous practice.
Chen is a national-level inheritor of Jingdezhen handmade porcelain crafting, a craft listed
as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009. For more than 1,700 years, Jingdezhen has
refined the art of porcelain making, turning raw clay into exquisite works of art. This craft
relies on four core elements: pure local kaolin, hand-carved wooden molds, wood-fired kilns
with precise temperature control, and age-old techniques passed down through
master-apprentice traditions.
Born into a porcelain-making family, Chen started as an apprentice(学徒)at the age of 12,
learning from his grandfather, a renowned master of porcelain carving. He spent decades
mastering every stage—from pressing and mixing clay and throwing pots to glazing and firing.
For Chen, the soul of the craft lies in two things: accuracy in shaping and patience in firing.
“Every step must be exact, but the hand-throwing is what truly defines the work—each
curve perfectly balanced, each piece unique,” Chen says. “Porcelain making is not just craft; it
demands respect for the clay’s natural properties and firm adherence to traditional methods to
bring out its beauty.”
Even with modern ceramic machines, Chen insists many vital steps cannot be replaced.
“Machines can shape clay quickly, but they cannot feel the clay’s texture or adjust for tiny
changes in moisture,” he explains. “Some skills look simple on the surface, but they take a
lifetime of repetition to perfect.”
24. What can we learn about Jingdezhen porcelain crafting
A. It demands precision and long-term practice.
B. It has barely changed over the past 1,700 years.
C. It relies heavily on modern machines for efficiency.
D. Its techniques are being gradually replaced by machines.
25. What can be inferred about the master-apprentice tradition in Jingdezhen
A. It is no longer necessary because of modern machines.
英语学科 共 10页 第4 页
B. It primarily focuses on the theory of porcelain making.
C. It plays a key role in passing down non-mechanized skills.
D. It has been officially recognized as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
26. Which of the following best describes Master Chen
A. Creative and outgoing. B. Energetic and talkative.
C.Traditional and open-minded. D. Devoted and highly skilled.
27. What can we learn from the passage
A. Tradition outweighs modernity. B. Personal effort leads to success.
C. Repetition guarantees perfection. D. Craftsmanship requires dedication.

Leading museums worldwide are experimenting with augmented reality (AR) and virtual
reality (VR) technologies to create new experiences for audiences to engage with art and
culture.
To reinvent an interactive experience, museums in China have started using digital
humans — computer-generated 3D images resembling real people—to transform visitors’
encounters with history and culture. In cooperation with AI companies, Chinese museums have
introduced digital humans as tour guides and ambassadors of tradition.
Ai Wenwen, a digital employee at the National Museum of China, can instantly change
outfits, from modern clothing to Chinese traditional dress, and give guided tours of the museum.
To give its digital employee the appeal of a human celebrity, the National Museum create a
song that is presented as if sung by Ai Wenwen herself.
In addition to museums, digital humans can help bring historical figures to life. The
Zhonghua Book Company has launched a virtual avatar (化身) of Su Shi, a celebrated Chinese
poet and statesman. With the texts about Su Shi’s life and literary work being fed into the
virtual avatar, it can respond to real people in a manner and language resembling this great man
in Chinese history. It made its first appearance in a CCTV youth talent show about Chinese
poetry, surprising audiences with its remarkable human likeness.
The virtual avatar had conversations with live audiences about poems Su Shi wrote about
1,000 years ago. The TV show even presented an episode of the digital version of Su Shi acting
with a human who played his close friend, the great calligrapher Huang Tingjian.
The Su Shi avatar has also become a social media influencer, posting quizzes and
educational content on literature, geography, and customs. Additionally, the company
organizes in-person events where students interact with digital humans to learn history and
literature.
Museums and cultural institutions across China have incorporated the virtual avatar of Su
Shi to create interactive exhibitions with themes including afternoon tea, poetry and calligraphy.
Audiences at these exhibitions have opportunities to experience the daily life of a renowned
poet from the distant past.
28. Why do Chinese museums apply digital humans
A. To replace human guides with more efficient digital staff.
B. To create a more engaging cultural experience for visitors.
C. To promote latest AR and VR technologies.
D. To compete with international museums.

A single minded, unshakable drive — that’s what it takes to be successful. Be “all in”.
Burn the boats behind us. This idea is everywhere, in self-help books, inspiring advertisements
and social media influencers, all urging us to narrowly define our goals and chase them with an
intense passion.
However, research doesn’t endorse this. According to a 15-year survey of more than
5,000 would-be entrepreneurs, those who kept their day jobs, instead of focusing only on their
own project, were 33% less likely to fail. Researchers looked at athletes and found those who
specialized early in one sport tended to be worse off over the long run than their peers who
explored other activities and specialized later.
To be sure: the more we care, and the more our job or pursuit feels like a part of who we
are, the harder we’ll work. That’s helpful to a certain point. But such narrowing comes with a
downside. As we set aside other parts of ourselves, and that one activity becomes an ever
bigger presence, fear starts to take over. We don’t just want to succeed. We have to. Fear of
failure rises and moves from “I failed” to “I am a failure”. When outcomes are all that matter,
and winning or losing becomes self-defining, our response isn’t to become a warrior (勇士). It’
s to withdraw.
The secret is to go in a different direction. It’s a lesson professional mountain-biker Kate
Courtney had learnt from her experience. She said, “My superpower is being able to persevere.”
And it worked for a while. But after initial success, at the peak of her athletic career at 25 she
felt worn out, and her performance was going backward. Courtney didn’t do what most athletes
do in those moments: double down and work harder. She eased up.
“When you have a more well-rounded life, it doesn’t distract you as an athlete,” she said.
“It makes you stronger and better. It also enables you to have a clear head when you get the
opportunity to line up.” Now 29, Courtney is currently ranked ninth in the world.
32. What does the underlined word “endorse” in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A. Change. B. Support. C. Explore. D. Explain.
33. What is the negative effect of narrowing your goal
A. It limits your creative interests.
B. It leads you to ignore possible risks.
C. It prevents you from facing challenges.
D. It makes you chase success regardless of the cost.
34. Why does the author cite Kate Courtney’s experience
A. To show the benefits of a well-rounded life.
英语学科 共 10页 第6 页
B. To share her unique way of achieving success.
C. To prove the role of a relaxed mindset in sports.
D. To demonstrate her difficulty in becoming successful.
35. Which of the following can best summarize the author’s idea
A. There is no fixed path to success. B. “All in” is no recipe for success.
C. Success is open to the determined. D. “All in” turns you into a warrior.

People have been so occupied with social media and the internet that they hardly consider
reading books. While some may be too busy to read, others merely don’t care to read. 36
If you want to understand what benefits one could get from developing the habit of reading,
then we have enlisted the top 4 benefits here.
Stress Reduction
Everyday concerns will keep bothering you unless you do something to divert your mind.
37 When you read a great story, all your stress seems to slip away and relax you since you
tend to travel mentally in a different place. Sometimes while reading, you come across valuable
advice or solutions to your problems.
Memory Improvement
Regular reading is a great exercise for your brain. If you read a fictional book, your brain
is forced to remember the names and nature of various characters. Going back to their history
and remembering events or plots is fun and improves your memory. 38
Vocabulary Expansion
39 Reading any type of book can improve your vocabulary to an impressive
extent. Having great command over the language is known to help many in their professional
and academic life. Moreover, with better vocabulary knowledge, you get to fill yourself with
self-confidence when sitting in a group with a knowledgeable audience.
40
If you read more, you will naturally become good at writing skills. Since your vocabulary
and pronunciation improve by reading regularly, it eventually makes you a better writer. The
more you read, the better your writing skills will become. You would tend to focus on various
aspects of writing that would allow you to write more effectively than others.
A. Better Writing Skills
B. Stronger Thinking Skills
C. As a matter of fact, there are many benefits of reading.
D. When you develop the habit of reading, you enhance your vocabulary.
E. One of the greatest benefits of reading daily is that your brain becomes super powerful.
F. Reading gives you that mental space to occupy yourself with something more interesting.
G. Keeping yourself occupied with reading for about 30 minutes can be great for your health.

Mom had a unique perspective on being charitable that I didn’t really understand until one
cold winter day when she picked me up at school.
“Who is that child ” she said, peering through the windshield as a skinny,greasy-haired
girl herded a crew of ragged children across the street.” They don’t even have coats. It’s
freezing.”
“That’s Becky Ingler. She always looks like that.” I replied. My mother watched them
move along the sidewalk. “Where are we going ” I asked as she inched along the street,
keeping pace about a half - block behind the Inglers.
They entered a half - ruined storefront. “Do they live here ” Mom mumbled, looking at
me. “Tell me about them.” I told her what I knew. The Inglers didn’t have a father, and
sometimes they smelled funny and everybody laughed at them. My mother nodded
thoughtfully. “I think I’ll visit them tomorrow.” She turned to me and added, “I want you to
come with me.” “OK.” I replied.
The next day, I followed Mom to the Inglers’ front door. A tiny, exhausted-looking
woman appeared, and Mom smiled and offered her hand. “Hello, Mrs. Ingler. I’m Mrs. Tovey.
I’m just visiting some of our neighbors to get acquainted.” Once inside, my mother studied
each of the children surrounding gloomy Becky, who was reading a worn-out book to them.
She rudely ignored my nod. Mrs. Ingler smiled politely and thanked us for our visit. Before we
left, Mom told Mrs. Ingler she sincerely hoped we would see her again soon. I could not
understand what she meant by that, but I soon learned.
Mom worked on her old sewing machine for two days and nights. She collected coats
from donation barrels, local secondhand stores and our own closets, patching, taking in and
letting out seam (缝合线) . “Wow,” I said. “They’ll be lucky to get these.”
“No,” said Mom as she faced me, “ We’re the lucky ones to be able to help them. But we
need to make sure the Inglers don’t have to pay a price for them.” She then explained, “I don’t
want these coats to cost them their pride or their dignity.”

My Dream Job
With the economy booming, there are more jobs available. But my dream job is to become a doctor.
Here are the specific reasons for my considered choice. Firstly, I have had a great interest in Traditional
Chinese Medicine since I was a young child. Secondly, the contributions made by famous doctors such as Zhong
Nanshan have inspired me to make my own contribution to this worthy cause.
To achieve my dream, I will stay focused and devote more time to my studies. In this way, I can lay a good
foundation and pave the way for my ultimate success. I firmly believe that my dream can come true if I put my
heart into it.
第二节【参考范文】
Later that day, we went to the Inglers’ home again. Along the way, I couldn’t help wondering how Mom
would present these clothes to the Inglers. No sooner had we arrived at their home than Mrs. Ingler extended a
warm welcome and led us to the living room where Becky was reading. After a short conversation, my mom said,
“I’m here to seek your help. I would appreciate it very much if you could give me a hand in tidying up our garden.”
Then Mom took out one of the coats, putting it on the table. “But I only have some clothes to offer in return.”
Then we waited for her reply.
Mrs. Ingler gazed at the coat, and then glanced at Becky, who was eyeing it with interest. Sensing Becky’s
longing for the clothes, Mrs. Ingler accepted the request and her family worked together with us that day. With
their help, our garden, as if by magic, became beautiful again. After we had got back to Mrs. Ingler’s home, the
children began to select their new clothes with excitement while Mrs. Ingler stood, wearing a smile. Seeing
everyone wearing smiles brighter than the winter sun, I came to understand Mom’s unique perspective on being
charitable and realized that helping others, without costing their pride or dignity, was the real meaning of charity.

W: I know. It’s just that she’s so stressed and exhausted all the time. I quite worry about her.
M: You should express your concerns to her.
W: I actually did that at breakfast today. She was very happy that I was so considerate. She promised me a special
outing next Saturday to our favorite local park. We will have a picnic there. And we’ll pay a visit to the new
science museum downtown the next day.
M: Sounds fantastic! I feel truly glad for you.

W: So, the guests will arrive at 8:00 p.m. But if you could get here at 7:30 p.m. to help set up, that would be great.
M: Sure.
W: But don’t forget that Charlcombe Lane is closed. You’ll need to leave 15 minutes early.
M: Is it Why
W: It’s March, the toad (蟾蜍) season!
M: What
W: They close the road for about six weeks every year to ensure toads and other animals can reach their breeding
(繁殖) grounds safely. They’ve done it for years now.
M: Wow! I didn’t know about that. Six weeks, though That must be rather inconvenient for those of you living in
this neighborhood.
W: A little, but it’s worth it. My dad volunteers with the rescue group. He says around 60% of the animals used to

get run over before laying their eggs. Now, it’s down to about 3%.
M: Wow, that’s amazing!
W: It’s all thanks to local people who go out in the cold and wet every night to keep them safe.
M: I assume your dad’s not volunteering tonight, though
W: He’d better not be. He’s bringing my birthday cake!

W: Here’s your new library card. It will run out one year later from today and allow you to borrow up to 15 books
per month. The library is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day except Sundays and public holidays. On the first
floor, you’ll find fiction, literature, biography, travel and lifestyle books, gardening books, and cookbooks. There’
s also a photocopier for public use. Copies cost twenty cents each, but I recommend you buy a monthly copier
card for $ 10, which gives you 60 copies per month at a reduced price.
On the second floor, you’ll find technology, geography, science books, and children’s books. There’s a
small children’s recreation area there as well, and on Saturdays, we hold a story reading morning for young kids.
The third floor has history, maps, newspapers, journals, and arts and humanities books.
We have computers with Internet access on the fourth floor. The computers are free to use, but there’s a
two-hour limit. It’s first-come, first-served. Just put your name down on the list if you want to use one. If you
want to use your own computer in the library, we have free wireless access as well.
That’s about it. Do you have any questions
