A middle school in Suzhou has started making school uniforms from recycled plastic bottles. Each uniform uses about ten used bottles, which are cleaned, melted, and turned into soft, durable fabric (耐久织物).The idea came from the students’ science club, who wanted to fight plastic pollution.
“We wanted to show that waste can become something useful,” said Chen Lei,a Grade 8 student. With help from teachers and local factories, they created comfortable, breathable uniforms in the school’s traditional blue. The new uniforms are eco-friendly,machine-washable,and long-lasting.
Headmaster Mr Wu said the project has two goals: reduce waste and teach sustainability (持续性).“Small choices — like reusing materials — can help our planet,” he told students at the launch.
Many students now feel proud to wear them.“My friends are amazed when I say my uniform is made from bottles!” said Li Na,Grade 7.Some parents worried about cost or quality, but the school used a green education fund to cover extra expenses — so families paid the same as before.
The city’s environmental bureau (局) praised the effort.“Schools are perfect places to build green habits,” said Dr Zhou.So far,the project has kept over 15,000 bottles out of landfills. As Chen Lei put it,“Every bottle counts — and so does every student.”

As we know, global warming has brought some serious problems. In recent years, strange weather appears often, from the very wet conditions to the hot and dry conditions.Global warming also makes glaciers (冰川) melt and it causes the sea level to rise. Many people have to move to higher ground as the sea level rises.
The world’s glaciers are melting much faster than ever. For low-lying places, even small rises will lead to terrible problems.Tuvalu,a small country in the Pacific Ocean,is asking for help because the sea will swallow it.Maybe we can see only water, not the country in a few years. What’s worse,Tuvalu is not the only place to face going down into the sea.Do you know Venice,a historic city in Italy Experts say that it will go down another 20-50 cm by 2050.It means that millions of people will lose their homes.
Scientists say the greatest danger of losing homes lies in southern and eastern parts of Africa and some places along the Pacific and Indian Oceans. All of these are mainly caused by a lot of human pollution. All of us are supposed to do something to avoid the problems brought by global warming. We should have fewer greenhouse gases sent off into the air. It’s the most helpful to slow the melting of glaciers down.

Have you ever seen a koala somewhere Koalas, which are often called koala “bears”,are tree-climbing animals and are seen as national symbols of Australia. However, recently the Australian government has announced (宣布) that koalas are endangered animals across much of the country.
As a matter of fact, the country lost 30% of its koala population between 2018 and 2021,especially in New South Wales, according to a report from the Australian Koala Foundation. If nothing was done,New South Wales’ koalas would die out by 2050,research in June 2020 said.“This must be a wake-up call to Australia and the government to move much faster to protect the cute animals,” Josey Sharrad,a manager with the International Fund for Animal Welfare, said seriously.Koalas are dying out all over the country because of the climate change and the fast development of cities.People have seen some places that look like the moon—with dead and dying trees everywhere.
After WWF-Australia and the International Fund for Animal Welfare called on the government to announce koalas as endangered, the government promised they would get more public support and protect koalas’ home—they live in the forests and woodlands.
The Australian government is now doing its best to collect money to protect koalas. On the one hand,it has spent $13 million in helping improve their living places. On the other hand, the government plans to spend another $36 million doing better health research and medical support to further help koala programs over the next four years.
“We should never have allowed things to get to the point where we are at risk of losing a national symbol,” Environment Minister Susan Ley said.

Protecting Nature
Dear teachers and classmates,
I’m Li Hua. Today,I want to say something about protecting nature. Nature is like our mother, providing us with everything we need, such as food, energy and so on.
But we haven’t been kind to her. We produce so much pollution that the air and water are getting dirtier. We cut down trees to grow crops, and this makes the birds homeless. We kill animals for food or fur,so some animals are endangered.
I plan to protect nature in my own way. I’ll take shorter showers to save water. I’ll never buy clothes made from endangered animals. And I’ll encourage my family and friends to recycle. Small actions can lead to big changes. Let’s protect nature together.
Thank you!
