Have you ever seen a rainbow after rain It's one of nature's most beautiful wonders. Bu
t what exactly causes a rainbow
Rainbows appear when sunlight and raindrops work together. When
sunlight passes through raindrops, the light bends (弯曲). This is called refrac
tion(折射).Different colors of light bend at different angles. That's why we s
ee seven colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
After the light bends, it hits the back of the raindrop and comes back. This is refle
ction(反射). Then it bends again as it leaves the drop. This double bending and one refl
ection create the rainbow we see.
For you to see a rainbow, the sun must be behind you and the rain in front of you.
The best time is early morning or late afternoon when the sun is lower. Rainbows are m
ore common in warm areas where rain and sunshine often happen together.
Did you know that rainbows are actually full circles From the ground, you only se
e half of them. ▲
Sometimes you can see two rainbows at once. The second rainbow has its colors in
opposite order-red on the inside and violet on the outside. This happens when light refl
ects twice inside the raindrops.
Rainbows have led to many stories. In some cultures, people believe there's a lot o

Food is an important part of culture. Chinese and western eating habits are very dif
ferent in many ways. Here are five main differences.
36
Chinese people use almost every part of an animal, including feet, head, and intern
al parts. For example, chicken feet are a popular dish in China. However, western peopl
e usually eat only certain parts like breast or legs, and they often throw away the rest.
37
Chinese cooks use many spices (香料) to create rich tastes. Sichuan food is famou
s for its hot taste. Western cooking often uses herbs(香草) and sauces. Chinese food is
usually stronger and more complex in taste.
38
There are many ways to cook in China. People here prefer to cook with oil and spi
ces. Western cooking mainly uses frying and boiling. Salads are very common in the W
est.
39
Chinese people use chopsticks, so food is usually cut into small pieces before cook
ing. This makes it easy to pick up with chopsticks. Western people use knives and forks,
so food servings are often larger and cut at the table.
40
In China, dishes are placed in the middle of the table and people use their own cho
psticks to take food from the shared plates. This shows the value of family and together
ness. In the West, each person usually has their own plate of food. They eat only what is
on their own plate, which reflects the Western focus on individualism (个人主义).
