Does using ChatGPT for schoolwork harm students' ability to think for themselves?A new study from researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Lab,has shown worrying results.
To carry out the study, researchers divided 54 subjects into three groups. Each person was asked to write several articles.People in the first group could use ChatGPT.People in the second group could use Google's search engine(引擎).
And people in the last group could use only their minds.
Researchers used a medical instrument called an EEG to monitor(监测) the subjects' brains.Of the three groups,ChatGPT users had the lowest level of brain activity. They showed reduced brain activity with each article and remembered little of what they wrote.
The study was relatively small. But researcher Nataliya Kosmyna felt it was important to make the results public. She worries that AI tools will be increasingly used in school settings."That would be completely bad and harmful,"she says."Developing brains are at the highest risk."
Kosmyna wanted to explore the effect of using AI for schoolwork. So she and her team told subjects to write the articles based on test prompts(提示).They found that people in the ChatGPT group had similar articles which were short of original(原创的) ideas, and included the same expressions. Two English teachers who reviewed these articles called them "empty."
This study is meaningful. It reminds us that it is important to be a smart user of smart technology. Our brains grow best when we learn in real-world ways, not just on screens.

Have you ever seen a painting that looks more like a feeling than a photograph? That's the magic of Claude Monet,a famous French artist.Unlike other painters in the 19th century who tried to make their paintings as real as photos,Monet chose a different method. He used light and color to show how a scene felt at a certain moment.
Born in Paris in 1840,Monet loved nature and started drawing when he was young. One of his most famous paintings is Impression(印象),Sunrise. It shows the beauty of a sunrise over a port(码头) in France. When an art critic(评论家) first saw it,he said it was just an"impression"of a sunrise. This word actually named a whole new art movement —Impressionism.
Monet often painted the same subject at different times of the day to show how light changes. His Water Lilies collections include about 250 paintings. The same flowers look soft purple in the morning and shiny bronze(青铜色) at noon.He once said,"The richness I achieve comes from nature, the source of my inspiration(灵感来源)."
Monet was not just an artist. He was also a gardener and designed his own garden in Giverny. He lived there for 43 years. In his later years,he had cataracts(白内障),so more warm colors like red and orange appeared in his paintings.
Even today, years after his death,Monet's works still amaze people around the world. His art reminds us that sometimes, how you feel is more important than what you see.
22.How was Monet different from other painters in the 19th century? ______
A. He didn't paint nature much.
B. He painted more real than photos.
C. He used light and color to show feelings.
23.Why did Monet paint the same subject at different times of the day? ______
A. To show how light changes.
B. To practice his drawing skills.
C. To make his paintings look shiny bronze.
24.What can we learn about Monet from the passage? ______
A. He was born in London.
B. He painted 250 works in total.
C. He got inspirations from nature.
25.What does the writer want to remind us about Monet's art? ______
A. Warm colors are better for paintings.
B. Gardening is important for artists' work.
C. Your feelings may matter more than those you notice.
四、任务型阅读-简答:本大题共1小题,共10分。
26.Have you ever felt so stressed by schoolwork that you forgot to enjoy life?I was there before. Then I discovered something that changed everything—a"color walk".
The idea of a color walk is simple:choose a color, then go for a walk and look for it.Some colors, like green, are easy to find. You can see the color green on trees, grass,or traffic lights.Others, like gold, are harder. As you search, you start to notice details(细节) you usually pay no attention to.
In the last term of my middle school this year,I have been really busy and stressed out.On one weekend,I decided to try a blue walk in a park near my home.At first,I kept thinking about my unfinished homework and felt worried. But as I walked,I found myself slowing down.I noticed the blue sky through the leaves, blue signs I had never seen before, and the colors of people's clothes as they passed by.By the end of the walk,I found more blue things than I expected.More importantly, the experience helped me stay present in the moment.I felt calm, relaxed, and truly satisfied. It was a feeling I haven't had for a long time. That small change made my whole day better, and soon it became a habit for me to enjoy life while working hard.
The color walk is just one example.A small change can be anything, something like going to bed half an hour earlier, drinking more water,or taking a 10-minute walk after class.
These small changes may seem tiny, but they help you balance study and life. And when you find that balance, you become healthier, happier, and even more productive.
(1) What is the idea of a color walk?
______
(2) Did the writer enjoy the color blue walk at first?
______
(3) How did the writer feel after the color blue walk?
______
(4) What does the writer think a small change could do?
______
(5) What small change would you want to make? Why?
______
