Have you ever imagined a robot helping to clean your house This is no longer a dream in Shenzhen! A new home cleaning service now uses both a professional cleaner and a smart robot to work together.
Recently, Ms. Chen Guo in Bao’an District tried this service. When her doorbell rang, she saw a cleaner and a robot. The robot started working as soon as it entered the house. It picked up shoes and toys from the floor. It also put books on the sofa back to the bookcase. The robot could do different jobs, like cleaning tables and even the cat’s litter box.
In the bedroom, the human cleaner and the robot were a great team. They each held one corner of the duvet (羽绒被) and folded it nicely. After three hours, the cleaning was done. The robot checked the bins, changed the bags, and took the trash to the door.
This new way of cleaning uses the strengths of both humans and robots. The robot does the boring and tiring work, like sweeping the floor and tidying up. The human cleaner does work that needs a personal touch, like talking with the family, deep cleaning, and removing dust mites (虫螨).
The robot was made by a company in Shenzhen called X Square. Making a robot for homes is difficult because every house is different. X Square says their robots can adapt to real homes. Because they make the important parts themselves, the cost is lower, so more families can try it.
Many people like this service. Another person in Bao’an District, Mr. Liu, said, “The earliest time I can book is April 1st!” A three-hour cleaning costs only 74 yuan, which is about half the price of a service with only a human cleaner.
Now, more people want the service than the company can provide. X Square is making more robots to meet the demand. They hope to give more families a better cleaning experience in the future.

The 2026 CCTV Spring Festival Gala became a big stage for China’s fast-growing robot industry. Four top technology companies—Unitree, Magic Lab, Galaxy General Robotics and Songyan Power-showed many amazing and modern robots. These smart machines soon became one of the most popular topics of the year.
These robots did not just appear anywhere. Instead, they played special and important roles in different shows. In the performance Wu BOT, Unitree robots acted together with young martial artists. They performed perfect stick and nunchaku (双截棍) movements, showing great balance, speed and top-level control. In the short play Grandma’s Favorite, actress Cai Ming worked with a very human-like robot from Songyan Power: Their show was warm and funny, and it proved that technology can help people in daily life. At the same time, in the short film with Shen Teng and Ma Li, a robot from Galaxy General Robotics took part in gentle and natural activities, making high-tech feel close and easy to understand.
The influence of the gala went far beyond the stage itself. According to official news reports, online searches and sales orders for robots rose sharply only a few hours after the show. Many types of robots sold out in minutes, because people’s great interest quickly became real market needs.
As major media pointed out, this strong interest shows an important change: robots are moving from being just something to watch into something people really need. They are no longer just for fun. They are entering homes, care services and factories, with more and more practical uses. Although some people worry that machines might take the place of human warmth, the gala makes it clear that technology and human feelings can work well together.
The 2026 gala is more than just a wonderful visual show. It shows China’s growing power in smart production and artificial intelligence. As robots become a part of everyday life, they will not only bring greater convenience but also spread Chinese culture in a new way. Tomatoes and French fries make a tasty pair. But the connection between tomatoes and potatoes may go beyond making a good meal. Huang Sanwen and his team recently carried out a study. They found the “parents” of the potato, which showed a surprisingly close relationship between the two plants.
Scientists already knew that tomatoes and potatoes were each other’s closest living relatives. So, Huang and his team took a closer look at their genes (基因). They discovered that tomato plants interbred with a potato-like plant called Etuberosum about 9 million years ago. As a result, the modern potato plant came into being, with the tomato as its “mother” and Etuberosum as its “father”.
However, Huang had another question: Why did only the potato develop underground parts-tubers (块茎), but its “parents” did not It turned out that the mix of genes from the tomato and Etuberosum caused the potato plant to develop tubers. The genes from the tomato controlled when tubers grew, and the genes from Etuberosum controlled how big tubers grew. Without genes from either “parent”, no tuber could develop.
These findings can help scientists find ways to make the potato plant stronger and better. The study also shows how different plants can be unexpectedly connected. Next time you eat potatoes, Huang adds, “thank a tomato.”

Dear Sir/ Madam,
I’m Li Hua, a Grade 9 student. I’m writing to apply for the volunteer position for the upcoming APEC meeting in Shenzhen.
I want to be a volunteer because I love Shenzhen and enjoy communicating with people. Our city has many highlights. For example, Shenzhen Talent Park shows beautiful city views.
