A
The pH Scale
A solution is a liquid (液体) in which something is dissolved (溶解). Think about the difference between salt water and tap water. The salt water looks clear, but it still tastes salty because the salt is still there. Because solutions are made with water, which is made of hydrogen and oxygen, the hydrogen in the water can make a solution into an acid or a base.
In chemistry, the pH scale is used to tell how acidic or alkaline (basic) a solution is. Acids and bases are two types of chemicals. Acids can taste sour, such as lemon juice while bases are slippery (滑的) like soap.
Pure water has a pH of 7. A pH lower than 7 is more acidic. A pH greater than 7 is more alkaline or basic. When acids and bases react together, they usually make water. For example, stomach acid that breaks down food has a pH of 1, meaning it is a very strong acid. Antacids are used to calm heartburn and react (起化学反应) with stomach acid. The pH of antacids is around 10, which means antacids are basic.
26.What decides whether a solution is an acid or a base
A.Tap. B.Hydrogen. C.Oxygen. D.Salt.
27.Which of the following about the pH scale is TRUE
A.A solution with a higher pH is more acidic.

C.Baking soda is more basic because it has a pH of 9.
D.Eating more lemons is good for heartburn.
28.What’s the text most probably from

Long ago, Adana lived in a small village in Africa. Everyone in the village had jobs to do, and the villagers depended on one another. When Adana turned ten, her mother called for her.
“Adana, it is time for you to take your place in the village. You shall be the water girl. Each morning, we need you to go down to the spring, fill these buckets (水桶) with water, and bring them back to the village before noon.”
Adana took pride in being given such an important job. She picked up the yoke with the buckets, flung it over her back, and walked to the spring. Marianne: (Looking around) Well, Mama, it looks like I have a lot to do.
Mama: Why don’t you start in the living room There is probably something you’ve never seen. Try that cabinet (橱柜) next to the television.
Marianne: (She opens the cabinet doors—a “mountain” of material, books and hats, pours out.) My god, when was the last time you cleaned this out
Mama: I could never throw anything away.
(Marianne digs through the pile and finds an old yearbook.)
Marianne: Mama... you were the class poet Why didn’t you tell me

We’ve tried to find success...

Nature and culture are often seen as opposite ideas. What belongs to nature cannot be the result of human activities and, on the other hand, cultural development is achieved against nature. However, this is not the only opinion on the relationship between nature and culture. Studies in the development of humans suggest that culture, whether taken as an effort against nature or a natural effort, is part of the development of the human species (物种).
Several modern writers saw the process of education as a struggle (斗争) against human nature. We are born with wild natures, such as eating and behaving in a disorganized way or acting selfishly. Education uses culture as a way to get us out of our wildest natures; it is thanks to culture that the human species could learn to adapt (适应), progress and raise itself above and beyond other species.
Over the past century and a half, however, studies in the history of human development have shown that the formation of culture is part of the biological adaptation. Consider, for example, hunting. It seems to be an adaptation, which allowed humans to move into new and different areas, opening up the opportunity to change living habits. At the same time, the development of weapons (武器) is related to that adaptation-from rocks and stones to a set of hunting tools, and from hunting tools to rules relating to the proper use of weapons. Hunting also seems to be responsible for a whole set of bodily abilities, such as balancing on one foot. Just think of how this very simple thing is closely related to dance, a key expression of human culture. It is then clear that biological development and cultural development are closely tied.
The transmission of culture seems to be directly related to what's in our blood. Just as snails carry their shell, so do we bring along our culture. However, culture is also passed on among people of the same times or among people belonging to different populations. We can learn how to make jiaozi even if we were born from Russian parents in Paris just as we can learn how to speak English even if none of our family or friends speaks that language.
37.Why are nature and culture often seen as opposite ideas
A.Because human activities make nature instead of culture.
B.Because it seems cultural development is achieved against nature.
C.Because people think the development of humans is friendly to nature.
D.Because human species always take a natural effort to develop.
38.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about
A.Culture belongs to human nature.
B.Nature teaches humans how to adapt.
C.Humans are supposed to be well organized.
D.Education pushes the human species to progress.
39.Why does the writer talk about hunting in Paragraph 3
A.To suggest some possible ways of changing living habits.
B.To stress the importance of tools in humans' struggle for life.
C.To show how culture develops as humans adapt to the environment.
D.To explain why there is a need to call for the proper use of weapons.
40.What does the word “transmission” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A.System. B.Spread. C.Start. D.Spirit.

Artificial intelligence is no longer a science-fiction idea but a present fact, especially in education. Tools like AI tutors and automated writing helpers are becoming common in classrooms worldwide. While many educators welcome these changes for their efficiency (效率), a growing discussion focuses on the possible downsides of depending too much on this technology.
Supporters believe that AI offers personalization like no other. It can check a student’s performance right away, find what they don’t know, and give personalized exercises, effectively acting as a personal teacher for every learner. It can also free up teachers from daily grading, allowing them to spend time on more meaningful talks and activities and help develop important thinking skills. What’s more, AI can make learning more interesting through hands-on practice activities and make it possible for all the students, including those in faraway places, to use many resources.
However, people who disagree warn of serious risks. The biggest worry is that it gets in the way of developing thinking for yourself. If students always go to AI for quick answers and well-written articles, they might skip the necessary, though often annoying, step of working hard and figuring things out. It’s through this effort that real learning, skills for solving problems, and the ability to recover (恢复) are built. Depending too much on AI could lead to a generation (一代人) that is good at using tools but doesn’t have the basic ability to understand deeply and create on its own.
Moreover, depending too much on suggestions from algorithms (算法) might create an “intellectual bubble,” reducing opportunities to see different ideas and opinions that make them think critically. The human side of a teacher—guiding, encouraging, and knowing how a student feels — is something AI cannot copy.
In conclusion, AI is a powerful tool, but it should work as a helper, not a substitute (替代) for the heart of education—the human part. The challenge for educators and students is to find a balance. We must learn to use AI’s strengths for getting things done well and for personal learning, while actively protecting room for deep thinking, creativity, and the priceless human connection that truly moves learning forward.
AI in 56 : Helper, Not Substitute
